VIOFO - A229 Plus 1CH

I have a Viofo A229 Plus. Love it. It’s pretty much set and forget once you get it set up. I installed myself and just power it through the cigarette lighter. I don’t care about parking mode. Get a big SD card. Pretty much no downside apart from the initial price and the install taking some time. To me it’s a no-brainer if you can afford one. The peace of mind alone makes it worth it, IMO. My wife disagrees, and doesn’t see the value of it and was in fact quite angry when I bought it. To be clear, the cam I have is in my car, which is not our Odyssey. So I can’t help you with installing in the Odyssey. Maybe one of these days my wife will let me get one for her Ody.

They’re great but not too long ago I encounter an issue with the screen blurred with the date text and they gave me a firmware update that seems to fix it.

I just put the Viofo A229 plus in my 16 1500. Highly rated over in r/dashcams and supported front and rear camera which I wanted. It was easy to install and I had some spare USB connections from my Phoenix automotive screen I used for running power to it. It comes with a cigarette plug if you want to use that or you can buy a special harness to run power 24/7 that will shut off if your battery drops below a certain voltage so it doesn't kill your battery. This is so you can use the parking mode where it will record when your vehicle is parked also.

It's only been a few weeks now, but it does exactly what it's supposed to and was pretty simple with install and setup. Has a small screen for getting through the settings, but I find it easier to download the app and connect with your phone to go through all the settings. Happy hunting!

If you don't need 2 or 4k, the viofo A229 plus is a good choice for little money. Great question! The Viofo A229 Plus is rated to handle temps up to around 149°F (65°C), but parking in direct sun for 7+ hours daily at 113°F can still push any dash cam to its limits over time. If you're not using parking mode, the cam will be off while parked, which helps reduce heat stress. But if you are, we’d suggest a heat-resistant cam like the Thinkware U3000, which uses supercapacitors and has excellent heat durability. I grabbed the VIOFO A229 Plus and had best buy install it with the hardwire kit. Great camera, great footage.

I got a VIOFO A229 Plus (and polarizing lens, and hardwire kit), around BF, with a Sandisk Max Endurance card, and it's doing the job. It, and those like it, take care of front and rear. If the ferrite bead on the power cord would cause problems, apparently you can contact them and get a hardwire kit without one.

So many variables - front only? front + back? front + back + interior? 1080p? 1440p, 4k? Price range? Want it as a digital mirror? Want it to record event when the car is off (i.e. parking mode)? I'm shopping too, my current top pick is VIOFO A229 plus for 1440p+1440p with better Sony sensor for night vision/HDR, but it is a bit pricey vs others. 2nd pick is VANTRUE Element 2 with older Sony sensor. Thinkware Q1000 is also good if you catch a deeper discount sale from e.g. Bestbuy. More budget options are ROVE R2-4K and Regtiger F7NT. Some models are cheaper on Aliexpress. My minimum requirement is a brand that have an offical web site with manual and firmware download, that remove all those unknown <$50 stuff but there are still tons of choices.

This is my setup. I use and hardwired VIOFO A229 Plus that covers both the front and back of my GLC along with a Thinkware iVolt Mini external battery pack giving me up to 12~ hours of running time while my vehicle is not running. It only takes 30-45 mins of driving to charge the iVolt battery to full plus I’m not directly draining my vehicles battery. The dash cam isn’t as discreet as most but I’ll be grateful that it’s there in the event something does happen.

I went with the VIOFO A229 plus for the balance of front and rear cam and the price point for the features. If your budget allows stretch to the A229 pro version. I landed on this one after some research and input from car enthusiast friends independently of each other.

I opted for the VIOFO A229 hardwired. Some tricky parts to feed the wire to the back but overall fairly easy if you wanted to diy it if so inclined. When I looked for installers Best Buy was cheapest here at $99 and stereo installers ranged up to $150. That was for front and back cams and hardwiring it in.

I just hardwired the Viofo a229plus using the OEM plug above the overhead console. I was debating the Viofo or Pormido P50 digital rearview/dash cam. I got Viofo on Black Friday so rolling with that for now.

It is the same plug used for OEM dash cam. You kinda have to crimp some wires on your selected dash cam hardware kit, then insert into a female connector which then plugs into the OEM blue plug. See link above on how to do it I don’t have a digital mirror. I just have the a229 plus duo mounted. The pormido P50 is a combo digital rearview mirror that covers the OEM mirror . You still have access to homelink buttons . The Pormido also comes with 3channel ,(separate front, interior and rear camera).

From ur requirements, a Viofo a229 plus will meet ur needs. I thought it was going to be hard to install but only took me an hour with no prior experience. Now I install in 3 cars and another next week. It connects up to ur 12v or USB A port. If u opt to turn on parking mode feature (records with motion while ur car is parked), u will need a additional wire kit connecting to ur interior fuse box. Its just a fuse plug adapter connecting to an constant power source. The quality is good with the Sony starvis 2 sensor. Typical app support and support patches are sent. My only negative comment is that I will they would allow for over the internet (via ur phone) patch updates.

Just put in an order with Hachi an hour ago for the VIOFO A229 Plus with rear camera for my new Corolla Hatch. I’ve had one in my 86 since I got it last year. My wife has one as well. It works great. Excellent video quality and simple to use. Get his harness and make life easy. Wish he had one for the Corolla.

I have a VIOFO A229 Plus in my EUV. A little pricy (around $200) but the quality is good and I like that it makes it easy to have a front and rear camera. Also, it has a good WiFi connection (uses 5GHz), so downloading videos off the device is pretty quick (my previous dashcam, a rove r2-4k, had an awful WiFi chip, so downloading a minute-long video would take upwards of 10 minutes. Which was borderline useless when I just wanted to quickly get the video and pass it along to someone).

The dashcam is tricky in the CX-30 because all of the accessory fuses and connections are in the engine compartment. Everything in the cabin runs straight to the battery (including the USB ports, unless that changed for 2025). I deal with this by setting my dashcam to go into a low power parking mode where it only wakes up if the car is hit. (Since my car is in my garage, that is unlikely.) That sleep mode is deep enough that it hasn't affected the battery - though it might if your car sits undriven for many weeks at a time. I ended up getting my power from the OBD2 port under the driver's side dash. It is the computer port used for diagnosing the car, but it is only used when the car is being serviced. It is much easier than trying to tap a wire or fuse. Most of the big name dashcam manufacturers make a OBD2 wiring kit as an accessory - but make sure they have one before you choose a particular model. Here are some good choices that I considered. (These are all 2 camera models because you are far more likely to be rear ended than for you to hit something in the front.) In descending order of capability they are: * VIOFO A229 Pro 4K * Vantrue S1 Pro Max * VIOFO A229 Plus

Hachi for a Viofo is my rec. Reliable and cheap and was easy to hide behind my mirror. I kinda forgot it was even there. If you want to be able to easily watch your videos, look into one with wifi. I think my next one I'll do that. A bit of a pain to grab the SD card out and then remember to bring it back to the car

You can get one for like $90. $220 and you’re getting the higher end Sony sensors plus a rear view camera. To get similar performance from other brands, you start cracking $3-400 pretty quickly. So yeah, for what you get, viofo is a good deal. If you want a cheaper one, you start sacrificing reliability and image quality. Which, is why you get a dashcam in the first place, to reliably see stuff. So it’s not worth that imo.

VIOFO a229 Plus is what I got for $220 front and rear, 2K. I’ve been happy with it. I think 4k will be around $300.

The A229 Pro supports up to 512GB but you need to either get Viofo's Industrial card or specifically Sandisk Max Endurance (NOT high endurance). Viofo specifically points this out on their website. The storage is the main reason I went for the A229 Plus over the Pro (2k vs 4k resolution). The image on the Pro was a bit better but not enough for me to justify twice the storage required for the same time. The 4K cameras usually requires more power for processing and generates a bit more heat, which might be what you were seeing with hitting the battery voltage cutoff. And I agree, the Viofo app is pretty bad, and the company acknowledges it too. Its been improved from previous iterations so check if theres an update, but its just "usable" at best.

VIOFO A229 Plus for me. I'm pretty happy with it. If you don't use parking mode, you won't have to worry about battery drainage.

I have the 2024 select sport and it doesn’t have the sunroof, or powered mirror either. Was dealing with the same situation , and made a post on this issue where someone recommended a usb a to usb c adapter. It worked like a charm The usb a to usb c adapter I got was an Anker one, came in a pack of 2 for only $8. I then bought the VIOFO A229 Plus dashcam which came had a front and rear. Setup was easy and was able to hide the cords decently as well. Let me know if you would like to see a video.

a229 plus usually hovers around $190-200 but goes on sale now and then for $160-170. highly recommend it as a solid package with Sony Starvis 2 sensor for both front and rear cams

I just got my own dash cam (Viofo A229 Plus) and used YQMAJIM DashCam Power Adapter,(10P TypeB) to get power from the autodimming rearview mirror. I tried the univeral adapter at first, but the little thin adapters didn't like to sit in the TypeB connectors and I did NOT want to start cutting wires to splice. The full plug adapter I bought after was pretty easy, just plug in and stuff it all in the plastic covering, I place the Cam on the passanger side so it doesn't bother my sight lines when driving. There is actually a small holes on the top trim where you can route the usb cable up and then down to the camera, i found that the plastic center piece sits to close to the windshield glass and was pinching the usb cable if i tried to go under it, but overall its still very clean. Edit: Note that the plug adapter is set to only turn on the camera when the cars power is started. It is NOT powered when the car is off, if you want that you can try the univeral adapter, but again, your probably going to be splicing wires.

I bought the VIOFO A229 Plus ($340 for the front and rear cam) recently and it's great. I bought it off the official website, I also found a code by searching, there's a few around that's active. Right now they have their Easter sale, so you can probably get a few bucks off. Also keep an eye out for these models on Aliexpress as they go on sale there as well.

I went down this road as well, looking for a reliable unit under $100. I ended up spending more by having to pay to remove the cheap crappy one from my car and then pay again to install a decent one. I landed on the 229 plus with the viofo industrial sd card and I haven't had any issues. I know everyone saying just get a viofo seems like paid posts. It seemed that way to me at least, but there's a reason why it is recommended so much. You need reliability in a product like this which the cheaper ones just can't deliver. Save a few bucks and risk having an incident unrecorded or spend a bit extra to capture everything? The answer became clear to me.

I installed a VIOFO A229 Plus kit with hardwire and it was pretty straightforward. Just keep in mind that you want to be careful with wire routing around the curtain airbags in the A pillar. Otherwise, it’s an easy install. I have mine mounted right next to the rear view mirror and after a few trips I don’t even notice it anymore. Already been handy a few times with close calls and showing just how close that dang deer actually was! Edit - forgot to mention to get a GOOD quality sd card, not the gud enuf kind. Look for a “high endurance” card from a reputable brand (I went Samsung).

The VIOFO A229 Plus is your best bet. Really great quality and it fits your price range.

I wouldn’t trust the free microSD anyways. You should get a proper card made for dash cams. With dash cams and other cameras, you mostly get what you pay for. The VIOFO A229 is a great balance between cost and quality, but any camera is better than none.

Monthly attention? I haven’t touched mine since I installed it last year and I’ve had no issues. Same for my wife’s car. What have you needed to do with yours?

I have this exact model in two cars and it’s been nothing but great. Make sure you get a good quality card for it.

I second this one. Have the Viofo a229 plus in my wife's car and it works great and provides excellent video. I picked up the A329 and will be installing that in my truck soon. Another thread pointed out that they have an external camera that you could mount to the back of your truck, the website says it works for the A229, but it appears the A329 has the same ports, so I would think it works for the A329 as well. I may pick it up and see one of these days, but I like the idea of the rear camera being able to look after my truck bed with the internal mounted rear camera.

The interior camera is always a secondary camera to the primary. They don’t make an interior only dash Camera. Get the VIOFO A229 Plus (best price) Or VIOFO A329S (best video quality) The 4K front camera will be better than the built-in one for catching license plates.

I got my a229 plus and will be wiring it up this weekend sometime. I have put them in a wrangler and jetta and chevy pickups even a 2025 ford pickup lol... just take your time and think about it logistically where you want it going and how you are going to get it there.

We have them in 3 vehicles and have had no issues with any of them.

VIOFO A229 Plus is the best middle of road option. For $170 you get a 1440p front and rear cam, with an option for a 3rd channel should you want an interior cam. It has STARVIS 2 sensors which is really the only option worth considering for night time video clarity. It writes to a MICRO SD card and the app is fairly straight forward. The hardwire kit is like $15-20 and comes with every type of fuse tap you would need. More expensive cams don't give you that much better quality/readability for the price hike that comes with.

2nd on the A229 - first 'mod' id do to my FL5, hardwired with voltage cutoff for sentry mode. Just threw another in my wife's new CX-5 this weekend.

Viofo A229 plus on mine. Smack bang on the center of front windshield and rear window. You will need 8m optional cable tho as the given 6m is not long enough.

I have the Viofo A229 Plus, awesome dashcam with no issues and excellent video quality. Honestly mostly anything in Viofo’s lineup is great, I would get a 1440p (2K) dashcam though at the very least, you need that clear crisp video quality to capture license plates.

I know the viofos are on sale. I got 2 of the a229 plus and I grabbed the rearview mirror power adapter. I installed both my wife and my vehicles and it took all of 10 minutes for the front camera. I still need to install the rears, but I gotta wait till I have the time to route through the headliners.

Unless you are dead set on getting a 4k front + 2k rear dual cam setup, get the Viofo A229 plus when it goes on sale. Of the many dashcams I've had over the years, this is by far the best one I've used.

I have the exact model, and I bought it about a month back, let me tell you this, it is amazing, super clear recordings, it has 10 minute loops, front and back, crash detection, voice controlled, application is also good and easy to use from it you can just directly take out all the videos, yes it is pricey, but I would rather get this because I park my car in the sun and will not risk a cheaper one because of the heat, there is 2 downsides i personally faced, first thing is that you must get a good memory card, get the 256 GB sandisk one, second thing for overnight recording, you must buy a cable that connects directly to the battery and fuses which is sold alone, and installing it alone is not easy (For me personally) other than that, amazing setup worth the 1k dirhams!

I had an amazing experience with Francos Automotive (find them on Facebook). I bought a dashcam and the hardwire kit and he installed, he even came to my home to do it. Extremely professional, on time and very happy with the install. He was also cheaper than other quotes I got.

I got the Viofo A229 plus(has very good reviews and also recommended in many florida subreddits because it can withstand the heat very well) I got it with the hardwire kit and an endurance 512gb sd card and all together it came to around 200 usd(it was on discount at the time). And then the installation(he went to my home to do it) was 150. Not precisely cheap but since its a one time expense I decided to "splurge"

Seems a little pricey indeed. I was considering waiting for this, but I wanted a better chance of it surviving the florida heat here, so I just picked up a Viofo a229 plus instead. Not at all OEM looking, but with with the predrilled holes in the headliner, and adapter to piggyback off the mirror power, Its still pretty clean. My friend has the fitcamx for his 2024 and he says it works mostly fine, not as reliable as the other cams he's had in the past, but would probably buy something else next time. If they fix it's issues, then the integrated look would be a no brainer for me.

Yes I do recommend having a 3 channel dash cam. I got the Viofo A229 Plus for $250. I'd rather cover my ass than be sorry.

I use a VIOFO A229 Plus, front and rear camera, 2K resolution and bought it on amazon. I installed it myself, plugged it in the cigarette lighter with the adaptor that came with it and hid all the cables in the nooks and crannies of the car. Took me 30 minutes watching a youtube tutorial and it's almost invisible. I've had guest in the car and they don't notice the dashcam until I mention it lol.

I use a VIOFO A229 Plus, front and rear camera, never had any problems with it. I think it's only 2K but honestly I don't need more than that, it looks crystal clear even at nights.

I have the same dashcam and used the VIOFO hard wiring install kit since the fuse panel is on the passenger side. I did have to buy a separate micro3 ATM fuse tap since none of the ones included in the kit were the right size for the Maverick fuses.

Not sure about a unit with radar detection, but we just installed the Viofo A229 Plus in my ‘21 RAV4 after I scoured this sub for what felt like forever lol. We used a Dongar adapter off the rear-view mirror for power for now - so I won’t have parking mode. So far I’m really liking it and the peace of mind it brings!

Viofo brand is solid. Have a A229 Plus for one car and an older but still good A119 v3 for the other.

My A229 is wired and the A119 is not. Wired is isn’t difficult but does require additional hardware. I bought both this summer so I can’t comment on winter temps.

Bought the A229 plus and installed with dvrfit adapter to use mirror power. Done in under 10 minutes. So far so good

Viofo A229 Plus. Front and rear camera, both very high-resolution. If you want the footage to be useable you need something sufficiently high-quality to capture number plates at speed and the A229 does this reliably.

Not a terrible idea. I used to use 2 Viofo a119 mini 2, but I have an A229 Plus now. I moved the 2 minis to my van. 

I use a VIOFO A229 Plus. It's powered in the rear cig lighter. I haven't bothered with the fuse movement yet, so it only works when I drive.

Not really everything was smooth. The only thing that was somewhat tricky was routing the cable through the glovebox up out to the cigarette lighter. I removed the glovebox to do that, just squeeze both sides of the box and pull.

I have the viofa 229 plus from Amazon. It amazing clarity on both front and rear cameras and connects to my phone. I’m very happy for the $230 it cost me.

I’ve had my VIOFO A229 plus for almost 2 years, I refuse to drive without it. I bought a spare cord and mount to put it in a rental vehicle.

I looked at the fitcamx, but reviews on it were all over the place. Some reviews mention bad video quality, some are about the plastic housing being cheap and easily broken, and others mention the camera dying after a few months of use. So all the usual stuff, mostly. That being said. I will probably still buy one for my wife's Kia. For my Tundra I purchased the Viofo A229 Plus and like it so far.

Most cameras won't be an issue at all with eyesight. Stick it behind the rearview mirror and you're good to go. I myself have an older Blackvue model I've had for years. Let's start with how much are you looking to spend? Want to stick on the more affordable end, viofo is an excellent option. The A229 Plus is an excellent choice for affordable and quality. If you want cloud features(most people have no need for them but it matters to some) then Blackvue and thinkware are better options

Look at Viofo for a good dashcam while still being reasonable cost. The real cheap ones are cheap for a reason.

I bought this exact model for around 400 with hardwire kit about 2 years ago. No way I'll pay 1K for it now, for the other car I went with xiaomi something, was around 500 I think

I ended up going with a viofo A229 Plus because my last ones were A129s and they were the old version apparently. I bought them about 6 months before they released the the updated versions with starvis 2 and usb-c. Mine had the micro USB so it was a pain to unplug and replug when it would freeze or decide not to turn on. It has enough positive feedback that I was willing to give it another chance.

I just recently put a Viofo A229 Plus in my new car with an additional rear and cabin camera as well, 256GB microSD card, and car wiring kit for $250 from Amazon. Zero complaints.

Its pretty easy, if you want a good quality rear camera, the Viofo is your only option as they offer 2k vs FHD of their competitors. If you are satisfied with 2k at the front, the Viofo A229Plus, if you want 4k front view A229Pro. Now if you dont care about having the best rear view quality, VanTrue has great offerings. It all comes down to how many channels/cameras you want, which you left out in your post.

I own a Viofo A229 plus front+rear on my Civic. If you only want a front cam then the A119 is a great option. I put one on my girlfriend's car and on my parents' car

I have the Viofo A229 Pro and can highly recommend it. I also think the A229 Plus will probably be more than enough but if you're willing to spend the money, the Pro is worth it. I watched a (german) comparison video of a few different dashcams and the Thinkware U3000 was one of the worst in terms of license plate identification. The best ones were the A229 Pro and the Vantrue N400. Therefore, don't buy the Thinkware, it's not worth the money.

100% the VIOFO A229 Plus. That company makes its own SD cards now. Reformat the card in the camera every few months, to keep any bugs in the system.

I've been using the Viofo dashcams for over 10 years. They're as reliable as any other brand, affordable, and I have no reason to switch to another company. I put tens of hours into finding the right kind of dashcam. Viofo A119, or the A229. Since the market crash of 2009, auto insurance scams went up 1200 % within 2 years  and with the increased cost of everything now, I can only assume that number has gone up. Even organized crime is involved, staging multi-vehicle crashes. EVERYONE needs a dashcam. If someone calls the police on you and it's their word against yours, you might lose in court. And not just traffic court. You can be charged criminally ( depending on that person's "story" ). If that happens, it will be months of stress, thousands on a lawyer  and you still might lose. No license to get to and from work, thousands in fines, sued civilly, and angry for 10 years with much higher insurance premiums. This is a worst case scenario, but it happens everyday, all over the world. ## Whenever there's an incident, save the recording on your PC incase someone tries to blame you etc. Dashcams re-record once the SD card is full, so buy the largest SD card that the dashcam can handle., and format the SD card in the camera when you first put it in and reformat the SD card every couple of months to stop any bugs from popping up. No dashcam is "very" reliable, which is why I run 2. 2 out the front and 2 out the back. I recommend fishing the cord through the headliner at the top of the windshield, then down the side inside of the rubber seal by the hinge, then under the dash and back towards the engine, all the way left, then have it come forward. That way it's not too susceptible of getting snagged on somebody's bag etc. There are tons of YouTube videos showing this method. This is all I've ever used.

Got the same camera, pretty much for the same reason. Had it installed six weeks ago and have not noticed any electrical issues.

I got the VIOFO A229 Plus. It goes on deal pretty often and comes with front + rear. If you’re interested you have to buy the hard wire kit separately. I usually check Slickdeals to see when it comes on deal

I just got a 2025 Sienna Platinum, and while it already has a front dashcam installed, it doesn’t compare to the Viofo A229 Plus in terms of video quality, reliability, or ease of connecting to an app. Plus, the Viofo includes a rear camera. So, I ended up installing the Viofo anyway and kept the integrated dashcam running as a backup. LOL. HTH.

I did install myself watching a few videos. For the rear, I ran wire under the seat and had some loose wire since I didn't want to go rear wire under any panels since I am not an expert. For the front, I ran it over a piller and then underneath the dash to hide any wires.I also installed front camera on frits/black dots and only camera is visible from outside to make it discreet

I use the Viofo A229 Plus with the hardware kit to keep it running for 12 hours after turning the car off. It picks up pretty well at night too.

I had A229 Plus (which is an excellent dashcam) but ended up going with another one. The A229 draws quite a bit of current when using parking mode even with its low bitrate mode. It means u need an external battery if u wanna record more than 3 hrs+ when parking. The good thing is the unit shuts itself off when low current is detected so it won’t continue to drain your car’s battery.

Get Viofo brand. Mines a229 plus, its amazing you can buy more better ones like a329 but quite expensive

I'm also using an A229+ in both my 1500 and outback. There are usually a few discount codes you can use on their website. Install was easy with the fuse taps and hardwire kit. Both have been running for a year+ now no issues.

I have 2024 hybrid as well. I hardwired the car, via the rearview mirror. In terms of options, I used the VIOFO A229 Plus. Do your research on the SD cards, cuz you need a high endurance one. The way it’s hardwired through the rearview mirror shouldn’t eat into the battery. If you want parking mode (essentially recording when the car is off) you may either want to buy a separate battery pack to install, so it doesn’t mess with your car battery. I've been happy with the Viofo products that we are using. We've had an the A129 Duo in my teenage daughter's '19 for several years now, and currently have two A229 Plus units: one in my wife's '22 WRX and one in my '24 Ascent. The '19 uses the v3 Eyesight (w/SRH), while the '22 WRX uses the v4 (no center mono cam) and the '24 Ascent uses the v4 w/center camera. All three are placed just below the passenger side Eyesight camera, and in so far as we have experienced, none have caused any issues with Eyesight, although, of-course, being by-Hoyle in the "forbidden zone," there's simply no way for us (or anyone, for that matter), to say that it absolutely does not cause any interference, as we simply don't know what Eyesight "sees." I fourth(?) this. The kit was very easy. Hachi is great about answering any questions you have quickly so it makes figuring things out during the install even easier. I got a A229 Plus for it to double as a track cam with 60fps.

I transitioned from the A119 to the A229 Plus because I wanted front and rear cameras. The video is excellent quality.

Upon doing some quick research it seems like 70mai only has the Sony Starvis 2 sensor for the front cam so you’ll have a significant drop in quality with the rear non-Starvis 2 1080p cam especially during night time. Also, a lithium ion powered dash-cam is never a good choice in hot climate. The DDPAI doesn’t even have a Sony image sensor so you’ll compromise a lot in footage quality. Have a look at the VIOFO A229 Plus (899.99) or if you can up the budget a tad bit - the A229 Pro (1099.99) and you get dual Sony Starvis 2 for both front and back cams, 24 month warranty, a supercapacitor (which is much much safer), HDR, Auto event detection and some of the best reviewed dashcam models in the market. We’ve also soft launched our home installation service add on so it’s a seamless experience all round.

Just bought and installed a viofo a229 plus setup for one of my cards. I’m happy with it.

I think the VIOFO stuff is better. I like also have the rear camera. The WiFi to find stuff on the apps is fine but I find a phone reader is better for the memory card. Videos above average and the newer ones even set the time off the GPS and that’s super useful to me. VIOFO A229 Plus Dash Cam was the most recent one I got for my Camry and other than some bad Micro SD cards it’s been solid.

So I use a VIOFO A229+, I mean it has 2.4-inch screen and there a setting that can show Live Video Source: Front camera / Rear camera / Rear Overlaid / Front Overlaid. So it’s possible that you can look through a 2.4in screen and that you can look at to see behind you. But honestly it’s just too damn small. I would rather turn my head and look behind me. If your interested in a backup camera in a headunit, that has a 7in - 10in screen that would be more ideal.

I had a Viofo front dashcam on my 2023 SEL which I loved. Got a 2025 Limited, but there were no kit for installing a Viofo. Finally installed the FitcamX, which took about 10 minutes. It works surprisingly good, but there's not very much to the hardware. Would have rather spent a little more to get a Viofo, but having the FitcamX is better than having no camera.

Most VIOFOs, specially the more recent ones like the A129s, A229s, and A329s can be hardwired and voltage regulated to your vehicle and run in parking mode for several hours off your car's battery with the appropriate hardwire kit. That means it won't drain your battery and you don't have to purchase another unit to power it. They also have rear and interior cameras for covering more than one side of the car.

I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

People keep mentioning the fitcamx because it looks oem. However, it struggles with license plate captures. It overexposes a lot during sunny days so it's shiny and makes license plates hard to read at times. Also blurry footage at night. It does a good job capturing video if all you care about i seeing the accident, but the purpose of the camera is to provide it to police and insurance. License plates are unreadable unless close up. Id recommend Viofo 229 plus/pro or the Vantrue n4 pro Edit* the fitcamx also lacks GPS meaning it cant show your car speed or location other things that may help corroborate your story in the event of an accident.

Looked into the Fitcam and VIOFO. The sample footage Fitcam support sent wasn't promising, so I went with the newer VIOFO using Starvis 2 image sensors. Doesn't really distract me but I do occasionally get questions from passengers. Also feel like having an obvious dashcam as a deterrent for reverse-into-you insurance scammers could be a plus. Overall happy, do wish it could do 1440p60+HDR in both front and back simultaneously though.

I also have the Plus version of this and have been happy with it. I emailed FitCamX about their image sensor and they don't have one of the industry standard Sony Starvis2 sensors, that plus the sample footage they sent me was enough to dissuade me.

A229 Plus/Pro family of cameras are great. We have had great success with their lineup. 3ch camera systems definitely have their place. the A329 is for a niche group of clientele. There will always be individuals who seek the latest and greatest. No 3 channel support, but the ride share market often gravitate to budget options. SSD is pretty cool if you really want to save lots of video footage. For the average commuter, a 128GB-256GB is plenty of video recording. We're in the process of planning the testing road map. I am looking forward to seeing what this new device has to offer as well.

The A129 Pro is considered a legacy camera in 2024. Sure, it doesn't have the latest Starvis sensors, but if you are happy with the A129Pro then stick with what you like. Hard to say if the A329 is worth the upgrade as testing has just begun. Upgrading will ultimately be your choice if it will suit your needs. For the A229Pro, we have well over 150 units out in the field and have not had reports of any poor video quality on the front camera. When it comes to any mass produced electronics there's always a chance that something goes wrong. Wouldn't hurt to reach out to viofo tech support and have them review some footage.

Both the A229plus/ Pro and A329 use the HK4 usb C hardwire kit. A229Plus/Pro rear camera cable is USB-C to C. A329 IS COAXIAL. Upgrading from A129 pro to either of the above would require rewiring entirely. This unit uses the HK3 and Mini usb rear camera connection. The 229 family of cameras is a solid performer. The a329 dos have the upper edge. Should it fall within your budget, the a329 is worth the extra buck. Unfortunately, there is no saving pennies here. Thr a129 rear cam won't work with the a229 or a329.

The A329 is a 2channel camera only. For the A229 Pro the bit rate is not affected in front/rear configurations. With the addition of the Interior IR, the bitrate does drop for the front camera (marginally) Robert from RetroCarGuy530 has in depth bitrate testing on DCT (dashcamtalk),and has a wealth of knowledge far surpassing our more simplistic testing.

Whatever you pick, I’d recommend against a camera that dangles off a mount unless it’s very small. I tried a Thinkware Q200 but I had to take it off immediately bc the Tacoma windshield is so small, it distracted my view no matter where I tried mounting it. I got a Viofo A229 instead and like another commenter, I mounted it in the black dot area of the windshield next to the mirror and I hardly notice it.

Been looking into this as well. I like my Viofo A229 in my Mustang, and will eventually buy one for the new CX-50 but with the preferred trim the hard wiring seems to be the hardest part with no sunroof or frameless mirror. Would love to know if others have done it and whether they went into the engine bay through the firewall or tapped in somewhere else

We had a FitCamX hardwired in our 24 Ioniq 5 and it would not loop record. I had 2 very close calls the FitCamX completely missed. FitCamX could not resolve why my camera would not work, and after 1 month of trying, I yanked it out and replaced it with a Viofo A229 that has been flawless. I have ours setup for recording when parked, a function the FitCamX failed at as well. A lot of people report good experience with FitCamX but that wasn't my use case. When we were troubleshooting the FitCamX, it had a Beta testing vibe to the process. FitCamX will relentlessly work with you to their credit and when I returned the camera to them, they fully refunded me without any prodding.

My thought as well. The SD card must be the higher-quality Extreme or Industrial use. You may experience irratic behaviors that are unexplainable in some cases. The lower quality SD cards can be more exposed to vibration while writing to the card. The speed on the higher quality are much faster, ~190 Mbs per second enabling writing your video clips to the SD less read/write errors or video loss. The lower quality SD card writes about ~100Mbs per second also half the speed of the higher end. I have owned Viofo for at least ten years and have not been disappointed. The continue to add features or benefits to their product mix. I have undated the firmware to the latest version. Like any technology updating your firmware that is recommended by the OEM is key to any satisfaction. The A229 and 329 dash cams have very fast video and snapshot photos or parking mode. THIS would probably explain your to slow message when it reads the card or formats the card it sees a low speed transfer or read/write. Anyways, Best dash cam I have used.

I have absolutely no idea why it failed. It wasn't baking in the sun, didn't fall, nothing of more. It just stopped turning on. I tried another power cable for it and still wouldn't turn on or anything. When I complained they offered a refund, not a replacement or repair so I never heard back what was wrong with it. I've had a viofo a229 since then and it's much better, no issues at all.

The new lenses are a game changer! This new 4K +60 FPS will be amazing to act as both recording high quality video clips for my drives in the desert while also have the security of a dash cam! I love the customer service of the VIOFO UAE team. They really know their stuff, and they helped me pick out some models for friends and family. They answered every query I had, which is super rare these days, and the Installation was easy. What I would love to see in future models is a screen-free model, since many of my friends and family are seniors, and they don't want additional screens occupying the windshield. A discrete model that just covers the front and rear will be a great addition to the current lineup. I understand this may be challenging to implement, as the control module needs some space. My recommendation would be to have a covered control box that could be hidden under the dashboard. And the camera unit itself could be really slim and attached to the control box through cables. Just how we currently implement rear-view cams. Just the camera lens running the wires to the front unit, which is acting as both front camera and control box. Doesn't have to be 4k or even 2K units, even a simple 1080P Unit would be useful to act as a security feature and number plate readings. Huge fan of the VIOFO A229 lines, would love one for my personal car!

Installation could be dead simple if you arent hardwiring, I would just use the usb port in the glove box. But if youre hardwiring, its fairly straightforward. Hardest part is tucking the cables under the headliner as its pretty tight. The most consistent and best dash cam Ive used has been the viofo a229, get the cam with the amount of cameras you want/need and get the hardwire kit. For the 718, theres two empty slots that you just use the add a fuse on that comes with the kit

Dashcams tend to be sensitive to the type of micro SD card you put in them. Viofo recommends only a couple of different types of card for their dashcams. So there's many reasons why that reviewer's dashcam didn't capture his daughter's curb hit. I have used the Viofo A229 as well as the newer A329; both are excellent cameras. Good build quality, nice features, and highly configurable. I've had mine installed throughout two brutal Houston summers (my G70 lives outdoors) and it has survived without problem. I prefer the A329 because it can record to an SSD, which I prefer for several reasons. Good camera -- I recommend it.

Never had issues with mine shutting down or freezing up in Arizona, and I’ve had the same model tor about 3 years. Maybe just bad luck on a unit? Have you tried turning on the WiFi and seeing on your phone if maybe it’s just the screen freezing up or something, and it’s actually still recording.

Most of the SD card issues is due to using slower cards that aren’t recommended and not reformatting it every so often. The jury is still out why the Viofos sometime lose recordings that are locked, it’s probably an SD card that’s too fragmented resulting in the unit buffering and ultimately losing the video as the write speeds drop. But the true 4k (not upscale 1080p like Rove), HDR, etc made me go for the Viofo. A lot of reviewers on YouTube use the A229 as the benchmark for video quality. The units do look old and I wish they looked more like thinkware but it’s hidden behind my rear view mirror so I could care less.

Yes, I have this same exact issue! It would record all night in parking mode, but during the day in summer months, while I am at work, it will shut off around 12 pm. Tbh Idk what the solution could be. I wish Viofo offers us some advice. Perhaps the newer models can withstand heat better. But those cost around 500 😵‍💫

Personal vouch for VIOFO A229 with the dual cams. Bought mine from Hachi with the adapter cable to connect it to the ASC port under the passenger side of the dash. Works like a charm, everything was super easy. Also he's a pretty cool guy

It's great "set it and forget it" dashcam, hardwired it myself. It runs smooth, I set an automatic SD card formatting reminder every three months to keep everything working properly. Just make sure to use the recommended SD card it's in their website.

Set it to at least 5 mins loop.

I have used the viofo a229 and now I’m using the pelsee p12 pro. Although I would say I slightly prefer the viofo over the pelsee.

VIOFO a229, or basically dashcam that has new Sony starvis2 sensor, viofo was the best quality among others on capturing plates, check comparison on YouTube, its night and days, after all I think what matter most on a dash cam is the ability to capture the plates.

I have the Viofo A229 front and rear dash cam on my 2014 Odyssey, and the video quality seems really good. The main benefit is that if you’re in a crash, you have evidence—but that could backfire if the accident is your fault. I’m a noob when it comes to installing this stuff, and I’d say it was of medium difficulty. The hardest parts were removing the panels to ensure the wires don’t interfere with the airbags, finding the correct fuse that allows the camera to turn on in accessory mode, and routing the camera wire from the rear hatch into the main cabin. There are plenty of videos online about this. I also found CR-V and Pilot installation videos helpful since their setups are pretty similar.

Viofo 229, tucks in super clean next to the lss+ items. I power it through a splicer in the homelink mirror system. Run my rear cam wires along the a pillar and headliner , down the door trims down along the bottom. Ultra clean in my is500

Viofo A229 or anything above that. 2K-4K, single or double channel. I have one and ran the cable up thru the pillar, by the top of the windshield, popped out the black cover next to the rearview and then popped the power cord out there. Fits perfectly.

Go to the dashcam sub. Better resource than here. Tl;Dr Is that you can use your dashcam video to avoid those "he said she said" bullshit things when an accident happens. Get a 2 channel, minimum (front and rear). There are even 4 channel units out there but they're hella complicated to install. 3 channel isn't super important unless you're doing like, Uber or something. Get a Viofo A229 (plus or pro) dual channel. I forget which one is better.

Haha, same model here. And the same model I recommended on my response. Damn good camera for the price. Could also rig up an old GoPro or two with a little work if you've got them lying around. Oh and as far as "backfire". I mean, data gets corrupted by police departments all the time. Who's to say your dashcam was even working?

I use two VIOFO Dash Cam A119 V3 2K 2560x1440P (front and rear). Stay away from WiFi and modern stuff. A229 is cool and so, but for the price of one you'll get two 119-s. Quality is outstanding, just use TS file format instead of MP4. I use three position toggle switch to choose between ignition "ON" and always "ON" instead of parking mode. My dashcams are directly connected to a fuse box and look neat with no hanging wires. WiFI is nice but how often do you actually use it? In case of an accident all you care about is SD card with original video file. App footage can be denied in court as not original. No leak through your phone if cops will have it in their possession unlocked. Not too many people pay attention to a dashcam unless it sticks-out. WiFi also gives dashcam away by advertising itself.

Have you performed the full review on the 329 yet? My A229 is a steaming pile of crap. It does NOT handle the Florida heat at all. Constant shutdowns while driving and parked have rendered it absolutely useless. Viofo's solution? Kick it down to 1080 / 2k and hope works. It did not. The camera is seriously flawed.

It's not just you. I got the FITCAMX as my first Dashcam, but didn't like the capture. I returned it and got the Viofo A229 and the capture is much better.

On a 2021 Highlander XLE we use a Viofo a229 and use the Dongar wiring harness mentioned by another commenter. It works very well. A model Y was on my radar when they came out but ended up with the Highlander. For me it was the build quality issues from Tesla at the time. Besides more room, any other reasons you have for Highlander than model Y? Sometimes I think I still might want to get an EV at some point in time.

I installed a Viofo A129 in my 2016 Elite and it's been fantastic. I have the same thing in my truck. For the Odyssey, you'll need the long 8m cable to reach all the way to the back. I have mine hardwired so it has parking mode. They have a newer version that has a better rear camera, the A229.

Viofo is my go-to. I've installed a119, a229, and a129. App is a little wonky sometimes but great picture and audio.

do you want a discreet dash cam? or a really good one? fitcam is "the" discreet dash cam, looks stock OEM, and gets good reviews. but it's only a kinda mediocre dash cam. I have a viofo a229, still pretty discreet, but certainly doesn't look like it came from Ford, but it has front and rear, 4k recording, a good parking mode, and more. mud flaps are essential, and I would argue they shouldn't be allowed to sell these trucks without them, (and in some jurisdictions, like mine, I'm pretty sure you legally have to have them, despite Ford omitting then). the Ford mudflaps look decent, and I used the Ford points to get them. for cap I went with a cheap Chinese knockoff of a smartcap. not colour matched, but I like the look.

I had a blackvue in my last car, and I liked it, the one thing I didn't like was when it stopped working it didn't give me any indication of that. it just stopped recording one day and I didn't find out until a few months later when I tried to pull footage for something. I replaced it with viofo, which is on the same level as the Blackvue, But seems to do a better job of notifying me of any issues.

I got a viofo a229. Fairly easy to install in the car. Comes with a rear dash. You can also get a hardwire kit as well. I only installed the front and rear but no hardwire. I’ve since sold the car and taken it down and have no need for it. The sticky that you use to stick it on is kinda half broken off because I had to yank it off the car. If you’d like you can PM me

I had that happen but it was just a firmware fix. This is my first dash cam and it has been working over a year no problem.

I've had my eye on a Viofo A229 (either the one or 2 camera version). doesn't really matter the vehicle type, you're just looking for a dashcam. I may be changing jobs, as part of that I will be parking in a public lot that's not visible to me, parking mode will become more important to me as a result.

My VIOFO A119 has lasted more than 5 years in Texas weather. (+120° to 0°). I recently upgraded to the A229 and I'm sure it will hold up just as well.

Viofo A119,A129, or A229 depending on what you’re looking for are all good. The cable thing you tuck it in behind your trim so it isn’t dangling. Going to be a thing for any dash cam.

I just installed a VIOFO A229 in my 2024 Limited w/ eyesight. I purchased a Dongar adapter to draw power from the rearview mirror. Had it installed in about 30 minutes and looks nice and clean. Highly recommend this setup.

Do your research. I did mine several years ago and went with VIOFO. I agree with the Project Farm link, he does a very good comparison, I was glad to see the brand that I originally researched and went with was still the best all around choice. I have 3 VIOFO cameras (119, 229, 229 Duo) setups with a 4th one (329 3-way) in transit as I type this. Not only have they been super reliable and provide the best resolution possible, but they run off a super capacitor (vs battery) so they tolerate the heat (thus adding to the reliability. Depends on what you want it to do. I just ordered the 329 3-way setup for my daughter that just recently started driving and I wanted to be as thorough as possible (night/day, outside/inside, front/back/sides) so she is protected from a "your word against theirs" type situation. I've seen too many YouTube videos where having a single camera wasn't enough, or an officer claiming a driver was on their phone when they were just eating a sandwich, etc. In the long run, a dashcam can pay for itself 1000x over if, heaven forbid, something happens on the road. It would suck to trade quality, reliability, and picture quality for a few bucks. This is just my opinion and experience.

Just buy the ViofoA229 and be done

If $50 is your budget, you might as well get a phone mount for your vehicle, and use the phone camera as a dash cam. It'll likely be higher quality picture and sound compared to whatever cheapo-filipo hole you're trying to fill. However, if you can go up in price and spring for a good one. I recommend the Viofo A229.

I use the voifo 229 with rear cam and hardwire kit. I have the kit at medium discharge (I forgot the voltage but I remember the button position) that will record Timelapse while parked until the battery drops below a certain percentage. It’s pretty solid and Doesn’t visibily get in the way because I tucked the main unit up behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side.

I have exactly with. A229 with the hardwire kit. The bummer is that I got into a fender bender while it was on the way, and I was put at fault, if it was installed and I had the video I would have been fine… Also, I have it tucked up above to the right of the rear view mirror. It Doesn’t block any visibility and I barely see it because it’s behind the mirror.

Viofo a119 and a229 are two of the most recommended dash cams I’ve seen on Reddit. Put one in my wife’s car and no issues as long as you have a USB C port

I have the VIOFO A229 now after running the A129 for a while. Great quality and easy to set up. My only issue I’ve had with both is that it sometimes doesn’t turn off with the truck so I’ll have to unplug it. Not really sure why it does that, happens randomly.

2 yrs in the hot Caribbean sun and no issues here. People only come here to complain, rarely someone that is not having issues will come out of the blue to sing their praises.

I have the A229 with the hardware kit. I really like it so far, only thing that sucked was getting the A pillar off so I could wire it properly. It was a serious pain in the ass, I needed to buy picks and I still ended up breaking the clip golder on the trim.

The camera records to a micro sd card that is installed in the main camera module. Footage from all cameras is stored on the card. To access the footage your camera creates a wifi hotspot that your phone connects to in order to facilitate the data transfer. This model uses 5 ghz network which is considerably faster than previous 2.4 ghz models I have used. Normally I used pop the card in my computer and copy all the files for easier processing but if you need a quick copy to share in the moment then wifi transfer allows for this. The wifi connection also allows you to remote view the cameras. I don’t want to type a bunch of unnecessary info so just ask me questions if you’re curious. I’ve had 2 different cams in 2 different cars so I’m pretty well versed in the space

Type s 401, the a229 viofi, and one other that gets recommended a lot on the dash cam sub. Sometimes just randomly my eyesight would bug out or just not work all together such as lane departure and "obstacle detection" which I just decided to go with the Garmin mini because a lot of Subaru owners (at least people who own newer models) recommend the Garmin because of the no screen which I so far have not had issues with. Oh and my car is a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. I was worried the anti collision would randomly activate on me and slam on the brakes

I really like the Viofo A229 for a dash cam. It has both front and rear cameras. It has a good parking mode and GPS.  I have the older version (A119) and have had them in both of my vehicles and they work great and are very discrete (screen dims while driving). Both vehicles, they are mounted beside the mirror.  Combine the camera with a 16 pin power adapter for the mirror and it's a very well integrated setup that feels oem.

Some thing happens to mine. It works flawless under regular temperatures; however, during summer it will shut off in about 1 hour in parking mode. I have tried updating the firmware, reducing imaging quality to 1080p, putting shades on my windshield, I got their overpriced SD card and nothing has solved this problem. I also have the 229 4k Pro and it is very frustrating to pay so much money ( I paid almost $400 and that's a lot money for me) and this camera does not do its job. Customer service emailed me saying that it is normal for the camera to shut off and all the other brands do the same thing, I careless about the other brands, If I knew it was garbage I would have bought the Plus and saved myself some money. If anyone have any recommendations for a different brand, please let me know. I was thinking about getting the Vantrue, any thoughts?

The viofo a229 is a super solid "mid range" dashcam that's decently reliable, decent video quality and easy to use. Definitely the model I'd recommend to 99% of people that just need a plug&play dashcam. Personally I use a thinkware pro 200, since I wanted one with no screen, as I find extra sources of light distracting.

Viofo A229 for two years and I am happy.

If you get a combination of dashcam and detector, you get something along the lines of worst of both. Best detector is Uniden R8 or Valentine One Gen 2. Personally I like the VIOFO A229 for the dashcam

I have a A119 mini in my wife's SUV and a A229 in my MX-5 with rear camera (it's been rear ended a couple of times). Also discovered this weekend that my wife's A119 works better when it is plugged in after a 700 mile round trip... Even missed the deer jumping out in front of her since it was unplugged.

Another vote for the VIOFO a229. I haven’t hooked up the rear yet but I have the front mounted and used an adapter to splice into power from the rear view mirror/overhead console. Took maybe 30 minutes to complete.

I’ve used a Viofo A229 in another vehicle for a year or so and it works great. Hardwired into the fusebox, runs about 10 minutes after turning the car off, it’s been great. I’m really interested in anybody who’s used one on a Maverick, mostly for how they ran wires in the cab.

Viofo A229 is what I use. Very well documented to be one of the best options out there for the price. You will want a dashcam that has a capacitor rather than an internal battery. The capacitor is what can stand the Arizona summers.

Hey! So I have a dual cam setup. I use the Viofo A229 and I had it professionally installed for $300. The guy messed up the wiring because he rushed through it, even though he "ensure he was a professional". I recommend the quality of the dashcam, despite their "chinese" off brand name, they make great stuff (not sponsored lol). Viofo has different cams as well, the one I posted has 1440p front and rear and is very clear. Anyway, take it to a reputable shop and TEST IT before leaving. Like test the parking mode works (when the car is off does the dash cam still turn on?) especially if you have an external battery configured. Also, go 256GB storage card or more. Good luck!

Viofo A229 ultra gives you front and rear 4k. I'm running the A129 pro duo which is 4k front and 1080p rear. It also has parking mode if you hardwire it so then it can record any incidents that might happen while your car is off (it will stop drawing power when your battery drops below a threshold as to not drain it)

Def the VIOFO with a Starvis 2 sensor. That’s the important thing, the video quality. Ive had the A229 installed in my 2024 Premium for over a year and love it. Unfortunately all the name brands like Garmin hype up useless features and charge more while skimping on the photo sensors. The VIOFO is great and easy to install with a Dongar power adapter. There’s some great videos on YouTube showing how easy they are to install.

I’ve got a Viofo A229 in both my Saleen and Fusion and neither have fallen or had any heat related issues in the over year that I’ve had them installed

had this exact same issue with two units in a row with them, gave up and realized i got what i paid for with them. their customer support is garbage if you order through them instead of amazon or something, so besides fighting them over email, the replacement they sent did the exact same thing, overheated when it got above ~70F outside in the sun. this happened using various sandisk and samsung HE micro SDs.

Viofo A229. I got a fast 64g mini sd card for it. Front only. I wired a 12vdc-5v usb little box, into existing wires when I pulled the glasses & two lights compartment out. Lots of harnesses there. So the usb box is hidden in roof. Viofo usb cable connects to it. I bought from Amazon the converter box and a bunch of various male Toyota harnesses that end in wires. Took pics of the females that give power. One I got was for powered rear view mirror. Use a tester to find more than one live wire when car is on, and can power the converter and camera. One was just a signal +12v not enough power, another was fine. Camera has a capacitor to power save memory to the card when you turn off the car. This was like a 2 hour job taking my time. 3/10 difficulty.

Also rocking the a229 but not hardwired. A coworker of mine has a wolf box setup in his Ineos I'm slightly envious of, but they use the same image sensors.

I got this camera for almost a year now and so far all good, even changed cars in between. I’m only now experiencing summer for the first time with it so we’ll see how it affects it but even if something happens, Viofo’s customer support is very good, they answer in about 24 hours and if there’s an unfixable issue, they send a new unit (whether camera, sd card or any of their accessories)

Real question is how can we tap into the 360 cameras and record that? That would be so much better than an external. But I also have the Viofo a229. Works great.

VIOFO a229 was plug and play

Mine has been in and out of 4 different vehicles and have had it for a long time. No major issues with mine and it is still working great. I will say that the VIOFO A229 is a great alternative that I currently have in my wife's car. I will probably grab that one once the Garmin quits working, but for now I'll keep running the Garmin. I'm sure everyone's experiences may vary. Good luck!

I have the 129 in one car and the 229 in another. The image from the 229 is fantastic. Super clear and easy to see details. Camera installed easily. Just be sure you have the settings right before you put it in as it can be annoying to push the buttons while in the car. The base holds the power port so you can’t bring it inside easily to adjust the settings once it’s installed.

I have an A229 it works well, just make sure you set the voltage protection fairly high, like 12.2V minimum. The OEM batteries don’t have much Ah or CCA and you might not be able to start your car if it’s set lower e.g., 11.8V.

I installed VIOFO A229 plus front+rear today. It has a Starvis 2 sensor with 2k HDR for front. Hope it’s good 😛.

I am pretty happy with my front Viofo A229; it is unobtrusive but accessible if needed, and taps into the lane assist camera power so no dangling wires (other posts / comments in the sub explain this already). I am waiting for a warmer day, to install the rear cam, since that is more involved.

I have 2x of these, they are fantastic. Keep in mind that no matter the brand SD cards are not actually designed to write 24/7. Some are better then others, but dashcams will chew through cheap ones in no time and quality ones in a year or so. The A329 (a model higher then you are looking at) does support ssd's though. I use a usb 3.2 ssd with my A329, the other 2x A229 I use microsd and Im aware I'll have to replace them every year or so. But microsd are cheap

229 front and matching rear is what I run and been very happy with it. Super easy to quickly detach and remove from windshield mounting base too. Another slick setup is to get the separate mini front mount and use it as a rear cam. Typically much easier to find 12v power in the rear that connecting rear cam to the front camera. Oh and I'm in Phoenix area too.

I started with the Viofo A119 but now running A229. I recommend getting the hardware kit and a trim tool. Dedicate a day to install it right.

Viofo A129 or A229. Avoid Viofo A139, this model was nice because it had mini coax cables, but it's unreliable. When they start to fail they go into a boot loop randomly.

I use a viofo A229 front and rear camera, thought about getting the interior camera but I didn't. Pretty easy to setup yourself and video quality is pretty good.

viofo a229: have 2 a229's of which 1 did not work as expected. Customer support was extraordinary, and is shipping a replacement. No complaints on video quality, and certainly pleased with customer support.

Get a VIOFO something. a229, a329 It will have a better pic than the Toyota brand. There's newer and better is what I'm saying. You can put it up on the windshield behind the the RVM (or next to).

Also a fan of Viofo. Been working great since I installed it just over a year ago. I got it because of the Starvis 2 sensor which gives improved clarity in the dark. If anyone is driving at night I highly recommend any dashcam with a Starvis 2 sensor.

I've had good luck with the viofo dash cams over the years. Some of the more expensive viofos have the Starvis 2 sensor, which does get a slightly better image (which might help if you are reading a license plate). Buy a really good high-endurance SD card, no matter what you buy And if you are ever in a collision, read the plate out loud so the mic can pick it up. Just in case the camera doesn't quite pick it up.

VIOFO. Whatever brand get one utilizing Starvis 2 sensor and that has HDR. Seen alot of recommendations for Dongar adapter for clean install into mirror.

Just when I think I have a good answer, someone comes up with a better answer. The hardwire kit looks great, definitely going to get that for my viofo. For others that are shopping, the starvis 2 sensor this has is great. I have both the older and newer viofo units, and the starvis 2 definitely makes a difference compared to the previous gen.

VIOFO, and make sure it says "STARVIS 2" sensor. Not "STARVIS", but "STARVIS 2". Also get the VIOFO branded Industrial Grade SD Card. VIOFO Industrial and Sandisk MAX Endurance are the only two SD cards recommended by VIOFO. Other cards have potential of file corruption after extended use.

Watch some of those Dashcams compilations on YouTube to get an idea between cheap vs good, you'll notice the difference in quality between clips. It comes down to sensor quality and key features. IMO Viofo are excellent for the price. Sony Starvis 2 sensor, parking mode, wifi and app.... actually these are the only functions I really use.

Vantrue or VIOFO. They both use the Sony Starvis image sensor and have great quality. The cameras are pretty set and forget if you opt for the hardwire kit. It will turn on and off with the car and start recording as soon as it starts up. The included power adapter does the same thing if your power port in your car turns off with the ignition.

70Mai is good - I've one in the CX5, front and rear cameras - and bought direct from AliExpress - retailers here sell the same thing, just for more. Do the math. Also the Viofo seem to be getting traction well - pick anything with the Sony Starvis sensor really - they're good in day and great at night.

Yes, but I’d recommend a dashcam with higher resolution than 1080p. Preferably 2.5K* or 4K. I like Viofo.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

Viofo from hachielectronics. It plugs from my fake engine noise so it doesn't have to take up usb space nor have to do any fuse voodoo.

For install, look up a video on how to install one and it tells you which fuse to tap. You’ll have to drill a hole on the silver frame of the dashboard to get a ground but overall it’s not hard to install. I recommend Vioflo or Nextbase.

GKU D700 - around $122 on Amazon after coupon. Have 3 of these in our household and they’ve been flawless (installed with the hardwire kit for an extra $25ish). App is great, decent size touchscreen, good quality front and rear video and capacitor based I believe. Had Viofos in the past which didn’t last more than 1-2 years, so thought I’d give these a try.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I've owned a bunch of Viofos but have switched to 70mai for the Ioniq 5. But anyways, you should mount it on the plastic part with just the lens peeking enough to view the street. Or put it on the right side of the plastic housing. It's annoying having the dashcam visible in your eyeline.

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.

Try watching Dashcmas Australia, take of the the crappy ones and the good footages. Most of the good ones I see consistently are Viofos.
