"I have the Viofo A229 Dual dashcam installed with a hardwiring kit in my car and in retrospect I feel I should have gone for something cheaper. ... You can buy the hardwiring kit and a CPL filter (if there is one) for the 70mai A510 and still be nowhere close to the budget you'd need for the Viofo A229"

"It does NOT handle the Florida heat at all. ... Constant shutdowns while driving and parked have rendered it absolutely useless. ... Viofo's solution? Kick it down to 1080 / 2k and hope works. It did not. ... The camera is seriously flawed."
I have a Viofo A229 Pro dual, install was easy enough and video quality is great. Yes I’ve had one since 2018. A VIOFO A119 V2 which I hardwired myself w/o parking mode. Last year I upgraded to a VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH which I got a shop to do. Started doing it from my interest in tech but came really handy when I got into a collision on the highway. Unfortunately this is a lesson most people learn the hard way as they don’t think they need one until it’s too late.
His plug and play wiring into the autodimming rearview mirror plug in the overhead is so clean. The two channel A229Pro is super simple to use with voice commands, too, and download videos right to your phone ( it takes a bit since it's over wifi and file size).
Stupid easy install from Hachi as well for the A229Pro 2 channel: https://preview.redd.it/h3s5ge4cu2df1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7855ad65d6f774e7b21d4091b8c79038c8e0ba90
Whatever you do get, look into tapping into the rearview mirror power. Eliminatees having to run a wire to a power source so far away. https://dongar.tech/products/10pin-type-b-lexus-toyota I currently run the A229 pro with wifi to phone to quick access when the car is on. No subscription is required and can handle 3 channels (front, rear, and interior).
It's great thus far, and I've read that it has a lot of positive reviews. It's super easy install for front an rear cameras, too.
They're pretty well hidden and out of the way for me. You can see the front one is hidden behind the rearview mirror and doesn't interfere with Eyesight cameras. The rear is so small it doesn't block the way either. https://preview.redd.it/c5iguy5u4qcf1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26e545b05d271ea466f9bf7d2d2e1c8878a374d2
Viofo a229 pro 2 channel for mine here in WA.
Second vote for viofo a229. Running it on my accord and my wife's crv. I honestly have nothing to compare it to(other then a couple cheap drive cams from like 7 years ago). But it works well and I don't have any complaints.
I recently upgraded from a Roav A1 to a VIOFO A229 Pro 2 CH (4K front, 2K rear). As others have said, stick with well-known brands, and check out r/Dashcam for IRL footage and comparisons. One tip regardless of model: use a high-endurance SD card. I’ve used SanDisk High Endurance cards since 2020, a 128 GB in the Roav and now a 512 GB in the VIOFO, while standard cards would typically need replacing at least 3 to 5 times over the same period due to NAND flash wear.
I got the Viofo a229 pro 2 channel and really like it a lot. It's not tiny so if you want totally discreet look elsewhere. Did a bunch of research and it was between that and the "plus" model by the same company. If you are ok with big files and don't mind getting a 512GB card Id say go with the pro. 4k video is a lot cleaner.
Viofo A229 Pro 2CH is what i have. Hachi has a harness that makes it plug and play while also providing power when car is off for parking mode. He has a black friday sale up right now too
Viofo A229 Pro 2 Channel. It's €280. Check out my posts for some video from it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Roadcam/s/qi1dEUeSRh You can order from Viofo.nl and they deliver quickly enough. You'll also want another high quality Sandisk **Max** Endurance SD card. https://www.viofo.nl/en/products/viofo-a229-pro-2ch If you wanted to spend a bit more, the A329 Pro 2Ch will get you better night parking mode, ability to record to an SSD, and 4K 60FPS (for which you'll probably want that SSD anyway). I've posted this before, but I think the Nextbase Mounts are rubbish. If you're getting someone to install it, or doing it yourself, make sure that they don't run the cables past the side curtain airbags. https://www.reddit.com/r/irelandsshitedrivers/s/3PdVAtmCcU
It's incorrect to assume that just because two cameras share an image sensor, that their performance will be the same, or even similar tbh. I have patents in camera testing, and to believe that firmware / software is **the main differentiator** for image quality after the sensor is totally wrong. FW/SW are important for sure, and as an example, one of the Sony image sensor developer guides I was looking at the other day had over 800 pages of potential settings, but outside of very specific applications, the vast majority of end users will keep 95% of them as Sony recommend - to the point they're simply not a differentiator between brands at any practical level. The Lens and ISP are *far* more consequential to image quality. Mechanical design comes close after that too, since they have to keep temperatures down. My A139 Pro (Sony IMX678) can't maintain 4K in warm temperatures even in Ireland, but my A229 with an identical sensor has no issues whatsoever in the California sun. As a further prime example of this, the IMX 335 in A119 V3 actually supports 60fps RAW, but the ISP, thermal management, or something else limits the full system to 30fps. Comparing image sensor part numbers alone isn't a comprehensive assessment, because other key image pipeline aspects can be limited by hardware, like bitrate or output formats. Lens MTF, chromatic abberations, distortion correction, stray light, aperture, lens alignment, and a *whole* lot more also have direct effects to image quality.
The 229 Pro 2CH (4K+2K) is just the camera I recommended without the cabin camera so would be the same recommendation. I didn't suggest the A229 Ultra as I thought is was too far above your budget, although it would be the better bet - The Ultra has the same sensor front and rear, so you'll get the benefit of a large sensor on the rear footage which will improve the footage gained (and increase the readability of licence plates) - if you can justify the slight increase in your budget, then I personally would go with the A229 Ultra if you really don't need the internal camera. You will still need the hardwire kit to take advantage of the parking mode and, in time, you should also consider getting the CPL filter cap for the rear camera and it will reduce glare on the camera lens. It's not necessary straight away, but soemthign you should consider in time. Another bonus with these cameras is Viofo also sell a bluetooth remote button that connects to the camera, the latest one has two buttons allowing you to turn the microphone and the wifi on/off remotely. it also allows you the ability to save footage instead of having to press the button on the camera - for me, this helped as I had a Citroen grand C4 Picasso which has a huge front windscreen out of reach of the drivers seat, so a bluetooth button made it so I could save pertinent footage when necessary without having to reach for the camera - if you have a similar car, then it maybe wise to invest in one yourself.
I have the same set up. I use the Viofo A-229 pro. Now there is a 329 model. In parking mode I use the blackbox my car battery. About 19 hours with 2 camera 2160 front and 1440 rear. Motion or contact mode.
