"install was relatively easy ... longest part was maneuvering the A pillar but once I got the wiring past the A pillar it was really easy to run straight back along the headliner."
"Very easy install too."
"his plug and play harness made installation so easy."

"it has a rear cam too and I've had multiple incidents of getting rear ended while stopped."
"The picture quality day or night is fantastic."
"If someone calls the police on you and it's their word against yours, you might lose in court. And not just traffic court. You can be charged criminally ( depending on that person's "story" ). If that happens, it will be months of stress, thousands on a lawyer and you still might lose. No license to get to and from work, thousands in fines, sued civilly, and angry for 10 years with much higher insurance premiums. ... Whenever there's an incident, save the recording on your PC incase someone tries to blame you etc."

"Yeah they are specifically better in the heat than other cameras because they use a super capacitor instead of a battery to do the final writing to the SD card when the power gets cut by your car. ... Batteries tend to have issues in extreme heat/cold"
"I have Viofo A229Pro for 2 years and a half. No issue so far."
"I live in hot humid climates and use a Viofo A229 Pro"

"the starvis 2 sensor this has is great. I have both the older and newer viofo units, and the starvis 2 definitely makes a difference compared to the previous gen."
"The picture quality day or night is fantastic."
"their software updates eventually corrected all the issues we noticed. The video quality viofo offers is the benchmark in the dash cam industry that other manufacturers try to achieve in our opinion."

"Hardwired into the fusebox, runs about 10 minutes after turning the car off ... it’s been great."
"While the camera was in parking mode, we were able to capture footage of one of my coworker's cars being stolen."
"Connects from the dadhcam’s power cable to the engine noise speaker cable and uses its power directly. ... Allows the dashcam to stay on when parked and it comes with a switch to prevent draining your battery completely. ... Super useful"

"The app is hit or miss with connectivity, you can plug in a pc direct to the camera for downloads, or just pull the card and pop it into a computer to pull files."
"The app is not great but works."

"It does NOT handle the Florida heat at all. ... Constant shutdowns while driving and parked have rendered it absolutely useless. ... Viofo's solution? Kick it down to 1080 / 2k and hope works. It did not. ... The camera is seriously flawed."
"I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died."
"No dashcam is "very" reliable, which is why I run 2. 2 out the front and 2 out the back."

"PLEASE don’t remind me of the struggle getting that damn wire through the rubber boot!"
"The only thing to watch out for is the side pillar—you’ll need very long needle-nose pliers to reach the clips. ... Another issue I encountered was installing the rear camera; I used a plug washer and drilled a hole for the cable to ensure a discreet installation."
"However IMO, I would avoid doing that because what if you're in an accident and it obstructs the airbags. I try and make it as clean as possible but there is still the risk. ... As for running along the pillar, I only have a problem further down closer to the glovebox because I don't want to pull out the plastic too much as it might damage it. ... Same with routing it all the way back to the rear window."

"But, there is one thing that you should know about parking mode, which almost nobody is talking about. The cam may drain your battery. Whether the hardwire kit has discharge protection or not, there is always a chance. ... Also, even if the harwire kit is working properly and cutting off power if the battery is discharged to some level--it puts a strain on it. Which means it wears out quicker. ... Gotcha. Be careful with setting it so low, as it not only puts a strain on the battery going through so many cycles of charging/discharging every time, but discharging it to such a low state can lead to not being able to start the car on a colder/hotter day at 11.4V ... good to hear because I had some clients who reported batteries died on them over time after they tried using parking mode. Despite it had voltage protection"
"The A229 Pro supports a maximum 512GB microSD card, which limits storage capacity. ... I strongly recommend connecting it to a hard drive; otherwise, it’s only useful while driving, not when parked."

"I do wish I had something that records inside as well though."
For reliable dash cams that can withstand high temperatures in Australia and offer 3-channel recording (front, rear, and cabin), I recommend looking into the VIOFO A229 Pro 3-Channel. It features high-quality 4K UHD recording for the front, 2K QHD for the rear, and Full HD for the interior, making it an excellent choice for comprehensive coverage. While VIOFO does have models with 2 channels, the A229 Pro is specifically designed to provide robust performance in various conditions, including high heat. It also includes features like HDR and Super Night Vision to ensure clear footage in different lighting situations. If you need more specific details or assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or through Live Chat on our website. Happy driving, and stay safe out there! 🌞🚗
r/Dashcam • 3 channel dash cam help ->VIOFO A229 Pro 3 channel, it’s pretty obvious where I have it so pax dont try anything. And it’s great at getting front/back video.
r/uberdrivers • Do you guys have dash cams? ->I’ve had the VIOFO a129 pro in my truck for over 3 years and the a229 pro 3 channel in my Prius almost 2 years. From all my research the a229 is the best price to picture quality you can get. I’ve never had an issue with license plates being unreadable. I’ve got both hardwired in so they record even when the cars off. Phone app works good enough to pull footage and show cops on the scene of an accident.
r/uberdrivers • I know there is 10,000 posts about dash cams. Can we hear from people who have had them for a long time? ->Similar to this I have two Viofo A229 Pros and love them. Have been thinking the 4K might be overkill, so the plus is a really great choice for the price. I’m not really sure 4K is necessary when you can just say the license plate out loud.
r/Dashcam • What's the best dash cam to buy? ->Yeah and I think I would rather have 60fps vs the pro which only has 30.
r/Dashcam • What's the best dash cam to buy? ->You’ll be fine with either. The only difference is 2K 60fps (Plus) vs 4K 30fps (Pro). Both are great cameras and will accomplish the same thing. It’s best practice to say the license plate out loud anyway so I don’t know how much of a difference 2k vs 4K will make in practice. If I were to do it again I’d probably just get the Plus and save some money.
r/Dashcam • What's the best dash cam to buy? ->Blackvue is probably the most discreet (has no screen and takes up the smallest footprint). You use an app to view the lens angle, download footage, etc. I personally have the Viofo A229 Pro which is front and rear cams. I love it. I bought one for two other family members and thinking about installing it in my other vehicle as well. It’s a little bigger than the balckvue because there is a rear mounted screen, but it sits pretty flush against the window (wedge style) which I like. I think the wedge style squeezes a little more picture quality out of the lens because the lens sits closer to the windshield glass but that is just my opinion.
r/Dashcam • First time buying a dashcam and seriously overwhelmed. Which one fits my requirements the best? ->Sorry this is happening to you. I have two Viofo A229 Pros (2 channel) and just bought a third for another family member. I really like them and the footage is crystal clear. You can buy a 3 channel version for not much more. As for storage needs, I can record 8 hours of 2 channel footage shooting 4K front and 2k in the rear cam (Viofo 256gb SD card). A 3 channel will take up a little more space which will result in a smaller amount of footage saved. Or you can get the 512gb storage which would save somewhere around 12-14 hours of 4K footage if I had to guess.
r/Dashcam • Front + back + interior dash cam recommendations? ->I hard wired a Viofo A229 Pro to the passenger side of my ND3. Wire runs up behind the plastic headliner and down to the fuse box. Works well and I don’t even know it’s there when I’m driving. Mine is front and rear cam.
r/Miata • Dash cam recommendations? ->Agree. I am using A229 Pro 3ch in 2 cars.
r/CarsIndia • Best dash cams for cars? ->I bought that exact model. A few minor issues so far: - I have my parking mode set on motion detection/g shock detection. Had to put motion detection on low yet it still catches plenty of unnecessary movements that are not close to the car. So keep in mind that you’ll have to format the sd card perhaps weekly or biweekly. Obviously depending on how much you drive. - Get 256gb minimum. On the website it says that it can handle 256gb sd card max, but if you can get 512gb I would highly recommend that. 5 minutes of 4K footage for the front camera already takes up 1.1gb of space, so keep that in mind. Don’t cheap out on the sd card. Get the high endurance one. At some point when my sd card was full it showed “slow card” on the display so I had to format te card. - The viofo app is incredibly slow. I have no idea if I got the wrong app, but for such a reputable company, their app sucks. - I got mine hardwired to the car, but after a couple hours of filming in parking mode w the movement/ g shock detection, it stops filming. There’s a voltage meter that cuts off the power when the voltage drops beneath a certain level. This could be because my battery is simply not big enough or that the parking mode I have selected simply drains too much power. Some positives: - The quality is very good. You have crisp quality on your front camera and even the 2K rear and 1080p interior cameras have good quality. The interior will switch to night mode when it detects little light while retaining decent quality. The microphone is also of good quality even though that may not be a priority when choosing a dashcam. - Installing the dashcam is fairly easy. The dashcam comes with plenty of cable length to finish the job. Keep in mind, the hardwire kit may not come with a fuse tap to connect immediately to the fuse box, so make sure you have everything you need to safe yourself a visit to the hardware store. I may have missed a few things as I haven’t owned it for too long.
r/Dashcam • Viofo A229 Pro ->The dutch Viofo website gives you the option to add a Sandisk high endurance card instead of max endurance. Probably since it’s a better upsell strategy. After some research I would indeed prefer the max endurance card. Too bad that they don’t sell them with 512gb. I had to format my sd card once again as it filled up in 3/4 days. The camera does indeed heat up. It was even hot when it was in parking mode. I may have to consider filming in 2K. App is indeed usable, but for an app like that where you just want to check some clips real quick or change a setting, it can be annoying.
r/Dashcam • Viofo A229 Pro ->Can you elaborate on what you are referring to? I have my dashcam wired to the car which allows it to record movement and damages to the car by using g-shock detection. As far as I know, it does not require any service to activate/detect and record. Only when connecting your phone to the camera, you will have to connect to the camera using the built in wifi connection. Which could be done anywhere else, since the files will not be deleted/overwritten that quick after capture.
r/Dashcam • Viofo A229 Pro ->Yoo, dash cam shouldn't violate any privacy laws here (provided you don't share the footage publicly without blurring the number plates and faces of the general public), and are definitely a solid evidence in the case of accidents. Now with regards to dashcams I have one from www.viofo.nl, haven't had any issues with it, but they are a bit over your budget. My suggestion to you is, no matter what dashcam you use, use a decent and relevant micro SD card(ones that can withstand continuous writing of data). If you skimp out on that, you'll end up replacing your micro SD card very frequently.
r/Netherlands • Dashcam suggestion ->I installed a VIOFO A229 Pro 3 Channel 4K HDR Dash Cam (amazon) with inside and rear cameras in our 2013 RX450h and have been happy with it's operation. It has voice control, parking recording and impact recording. Get the VIOFO memory card with it. I tried a cheaper card but it was not "fast" enough. The install was not easy although there is a "Victor" on YouTube that goes through how to remove all of the panels to run the cable to the rear hatch. Either that or find a competent installer. These days, it is hard to imagine not having a video record every time we leave the house! Good luck and happy driving!
r/Lexus • Aftermarket Dash Cam ->I've had two A229 dashcams hardwired to my car twice. First one got stolen when my car was broken into, second is the one I currently have installed. I can't fault the dashcam too much as I live in AZ with some very hot summer days, but I will point out some issues it's had with me: - screen bugs out a lot and often shows a black screen with repeating text. - I notice the parking mode is good, detects movement as it should, but in normal driving mode, it often stops recording. - app is very slow and laggy I'm not sure why it randomly stops recording at times. It records maybe two or three minutes after I start my car, then often doesn't record anything after that until I turn my car off at my destination. Not sure if it's an overheating issue as it happens at night when it's a lot cooler as well. I can't say it was a one time thing and a faulty dashcam since it's happened to both dashcams.
r/Dashcam • Viofo A229 Pro ->[dashcam comparison ](https://youtu.be/tJeK03JIOGA?si=KfL3PSV34nMCmXLV) That may help solidify your choice. I like the better video quality that viofo offers. However, the thinkware performs really well for parking mode, and the app is really polished. Btw if you are using a battery pack, you alleviate the recordtime hurdle from viofo. The powercell8 is ancient in terms of tech. What vehicle is it going into?
r/Dashcam • Which dash cam should I pick? ->A229 Plus/Pro family of cameras are great. We have had great success with their lineup. 3ch camera systems definitely have their place. the A329 is for a niche group of clientele. There will always be individuals who seek the latest and greatest. No 3 channel support, but the ride share market often gravitate to budget options. SSD is pretty cool if you really want to save lots of video footage. For the average commuter, a 128GB-256GB is plenty of video recording. We're in the process of planning the testing road map. I am looking forward to seeing what this new device has to offer as well.
r/Dashcam • VIOFO A329 TESTING AND REVIEW ->The A129 Pro is considered a legacy camera in 2024. Sure, it doesn't have the latest Starvis sensors, but if you are happy with the A129Pro then stick with what you like. Hard to say if the A329 is worth the upgrade as testing has just begun. Upgrading will ultimately be your choice if it will suit your needs. For the A229Pro, we have well over 150 units out in the field and have not had reports of any poor video quality on the front camera. When it comes to any mass produced electronics there's always a chance that something goes wrong. Wouldn't hurt to reach out to viofo tech support and have them review some footage.
r/Dashcam • VIOFO A329 TESTING AND REVIEW ->Both the A229plus/ Pro and A329 use the HK4 usb C hardwire kit. A229Plus/Pro rear camera cable is USB-C to C. A329 IS COAXIAL. Upgrading from A129 pro to either of the above would require rewiring entirely. This unit uses the HK3 and Mini usb rear camera connection. The 229 family of cameras is a solid performer. The a329 dos have the upper edge. Should it fall within your budget, the a329 is worth the extra buck. Unfortunately, there is no saving pennies here. Thr a129 rear cam won't work with the a229 or a329.
r/Dashcam • VIOFO A329 TESTING AND REVIEW ->The A329 is a 2channel camera only. For the A229 Pro the bit rate is not affected in front/rear configurations. With the addition of the Interior IR, the bitrate does drop for the front camera (marginally) Robert from RetroCarGuy530 has in depth bitrate testing on DCT (dashcamtalk),and has a wealth of knowledge far surpassing our more simplistic testing.
r/Dashcam • VIOFO A329 TESTING AND REVIEW ->We have the A229 plus, pro, and 329 in stock.
r/Dashcam • VIOFO A329 TESTING AND REVIEW ->We install this model day in and out and have had great feedback and luck with the viofo a229 lineup. The only negative thing about viofo is the monthly to semi monthly SD card maintenance, which is to format it. I would highly recommend 256GB for a 3 channel setup.
r/Dashcam • Viofo A229 Pro ->Long time user of viofo for years , ROAV by anker before that. Viofo are excellent. Currently using A229 Pro 3 channel - local WiFi for file sharing, , infrared cabin camera , rear camera , 4k front camera. Great detail in day time , good in night time. 512gb memory card which is enough for 48 hours recording when all 3 cameras are in use. Slightly pricy but if you're involved in just one incident then the camera will be pay for itself many times over. Don't skimp on the memory card - buy the official viofo branded 512gb card , any other brands causes issues.
