This is just for the front camera? It took all of 15 minutes to run power through the headliner, down the A pillar, and to an add a fuse adapter. The back camera is what took a good hour to route through the hatch conduit and all the way to the front camera. I have the Rove R2 4k dual with the hardwire kit. Works great. No complaints. Also not a sales pitch. I just haven’t used other dash cams so can’t speak to them. Can’t post any pictures. Thanks Tiguan subreddit config.

I researched dual dash cams for nearly a week a cpuple months ago. I was originally looking at the Viofo like everyone recommended but after some deep searching of what sensor and versions of novatek are in each. The one I wanted was out of stock. I found Rove R2-4K dual to be one of the newest versions of Sony Starvis 2 and novatek. Much newer than the standard R2-4K and R2-4K Pro. The reason, I do more night driving than day in my car and this matters for capturing license plates at night. They sell a hardware kit for it but I hear Toyota will void electronics warranty if anything happens if you hardwire to the fusebox. But recently I saw they did this to someone who had it wired into the 12v glovebox outlet with the adapter as well (which doesnt give you parking mode). The Haichi kit might be a smarter way to hide it on them but unless you remove everything related prior they will see mounts and your wiring. That being said, having the dash cam is more important that worrying about something going wrong IMO. Revert to stock if you have to take it in for electrical issue and maybe hide stuff during service calls so they dont have an opportunity to take notes :)

I have the Rove R2 4K Dual. I spent a lot of time researching. But I know the Dual kit has one of the newest camera specs on the market. That one does not unfortunately. Starvis 2 is important for night quality reading plates. The novatek version also makes a difference. Had no issues with my rove yet

I have a Rove 4k in my truck. I was able to get an accessory plug so it is powered off the rear view mirror; no running of wires. I got the Ford Thinkware dashcam for my wife's Ranger. It wires directly into OBD for continuous power which my Rove doesn't have. However Ford sells an older Thinkware that doesn't have wireless access..... Huge disappointment. There's nothing fancy about the Rove but it wasn't super expensive either

Beware of Fitcamx on my previous car; it slowly drained my battery over six months while the car was off. I have been using a [Rove R2-4k Pro](https://www.amazon.com/ROVE-R2-4K-PRO-Dashcam-Supports/dp/B0BZRKRBHP) since May in my MK 8.5, which can be hardwired into the Fuse box or connected to the 12V port, and haven't had any issues.

If you want a good all around system that is super reliable I would go with the Rove R2-4K. Just keep in mind it is not true 4K and the video quality is average with poor night video quality. Still I like it so far and the deals it had with all the features was a nice bonus. The video quality for the viofos are much better in terms of being capable of reading license plates and the quality of night videos. I would go for the viofo pro if you're not on a budget. I personally don't like how outdated it looks which makes me wonder if that's why some reviews mention problems. Where I live it gets hot, and reading the bad reviews with potential heat and SD card errors deterred me enough from it even though viofo has a lot more useful features functionality wise. I'm patient and am hoping in a few years they make changes to the design.

Yeah, half of these don't connect to WiFi (customer reporting), won't stay on, can't download unless near cam, won't power on, etc. When the reviews of negatives outweighs the positives, I'd be leery of just throwing brands out there... (Walmart? really?) Always do your own home work. I did a google search and looked at all these 'brands' (Especially the Rove R2 and RedTiger)... Just do the research, there is a lot of 'crap' out there. One way to tell; Do the housing on various models all look alike (same batch manufacturer)?

I have the Rove 2, front channel only, and I like it. It will record 10-minute loops, it can be hard-wired or run off USB, and it works well. Rove also has really good tech support. I had an issue with one of my 2 cameras and they replaced it, no questions asked. Just sent me a new one and had me send the faulty one back.

I have a VIOFO A229 Plus in my EUV. A little pricy (around $200) but the quality is good and I like that it makes it easy to have a front and rear camera. Also, it has a good WiFi connection (uses 5GHz), so downloading videos off the device is pretty quick (my previous dashcam, a rove r2-4k, had an awful WiFi chip, so downloading a minute-long video would take upwards of 10 minutes. Which was borderline useless when I just wanted to quickly get the video and pass it along to someone).

I purchased the R2 4K dual which has the starvis 2 with discount for 339dhs. Rove has more reviews that viofo but still a good brand. Installed the rove myself, hid the wires easily. Lots of guides on it. Just the rear has a wire shown as it needs some lenght to open the rear door given its an suv. Will be more neat for a sedan. No need to pay stupid prices like 1K or more. U can easily manage installation on ur own.

The A229 pro has been good to me. The app is not great but works. Have one for my daily driver and my wife's car. My other car I've been using the ROVE R2-4K DUAL Dash Cam. Micro SD card brand and type is equally important. I didn't use the micro sd card that came with the rove. I tend to stick to the Samsung Evo line or SanDisk High Endurance Video line.

r/Dashcam • What kind of dashcam should I get? ->

I'm using a 256GB card (Sandisk High Endurance, item code SDSQQNR-256G-GN6IA) , so I cannot speak to anything larger being supported (but I do see others have). I've had the camera for roughly 7 months now (bought 2 of them on Amazon and with deal of the day discount, got them for $185)and I am really happy with them. The phone app isn't bad but could be better. I still use an older cell phone with the Torque app installed and use the track recorder function (I have an obd2 bluetooth adapter that interfaces with it and I have extra gauges as overlays for it) for a secondary dash cam, but it's nice to have the features of a dash cam with great night vision recording, something that a Galaxy Note 3 phone doesn't do well. 🤣 Overall the A119 is a great dash cam. I have one in my car and have been trying to convince my wife to let me install the second one I bought in her car because these days I really do believe that everyone should have a dash cam in their car. For my Firebird I went with a ROVE R2-4K DUAL Dash Cam (front and rear camera) that I'll be installing in the spring. That car already encountered a hit and run when it was parked and I wasn't in it, so I'm a little paranoid about that happening again.

Women drive here. Depends how your door swing (upwards or outwards sideways). If it’s upwards like a sedan, you just have to fit it nicely around the windshield edges with the tool. With Rove, they gave a nice firm 3M stickers so it was easy for me to do the wiring for front camera but my door swing outwards sideways so needed it to be done through internal bits which I wasn’t confident to do on my own so took to the nearest garage. It’s really super simple.

It's like $120 bucks on Amazon, they basically do everything else the competition does. We also bought a generic mirror stem adapter for them. We have it clamped around the rear view mirror. It's flawless. Basically a set it up and leave it situation. Since our 12v plug ins are keyed to power we never have to touch it

* Rove R2-4K off amazon. Work really well and connects wirelessly to your phone so you can transfer video files easily. I've had a few dash cams before and always found the nighttime video to be so bad it's basically useless unless you are in an extremely well lit city. This dash cam is phenomenal at night in comparison. I put it on the right side of the passenger eyesight camera and have never had a problem with it interfering with the eyesight system. Your car should have an EyeSight manual check the index for "About EyeSight" and there should be a diagram in there for the prohibited attachment areas on your specific cars windshield.

Low $100 should do the job. ROVE R2-4K Pro or REDTIGER 4K. I have both on different cars. Clear pics. On my ID4, I used Fuse #52. This is the rear trunk cigarette lighter power. Internet pic shows this #52 as one long Fuse, but it is not. It has two setup option, connect to the upper slot of #52, you will get power only when the car is On. I chose the upper slot setup. Lower slot of #52, then power is always On. YouTube has severals clips that show how to run and hide the cable. Be careful with the rectangular panel next to the door. You have to slide it to the side before pull out so you don't break it. One YouTube guy shows this briefly. It took 30-45 minutes to install front dashcam. I don't install the rear.

Rove, we have about 4 of these one being the new dual front and back. Don't just have one in the front, try to have a rear one as well. I was rear ended in April, and the guy accepted responsibility, but once he called his insurance his story changed, thank God I was driving my Tesla and had enough footage to fight his claim, after reviewing my video his insurance accepted full liability for the incident.

Literally (Monday) I just installed a Rover R2-4k. It was a walk in the park to set up and the footage it's capturing even at night is crispy. Amazon has a coupon on it currently that drops it to around $100. I like that it has a screen and physical buttons and the app didn't feel quite as "info skimming" as most of the other $100 4k options.

Yeah for sure, the beefier version kept coming up in my hunt for one but I don't do Uber or whatever so I don't need an inside the car cam. Most people get tripped up with the SD cards cause they never need to write to one as quickly as uncompressed 4k video does. While U3 (and higher) rated cards are cheaper than they used to be, they're still more expensive than most average people spend on the ones laying around in some tech drawer we all have. I think this [website](https://www.kingston.com/en/blog/personal-storage/memory-card-speed-classes) is handy for understanding the classification but basically you need a card that is at minimum capable of writing at 30mb/s. 60mb/s would probably be better but Roves own cards are a U3. I'm several drives in and so far I'm very impressed for the price point. I've used to app to both live watch video and download a trip just to see what it looked like. I'm going to make my brother mess with it tomorrow when we're stuck in the car for 2 hours. Otherwise unless it just craps itself in a couple months, I don't think I'll have any complaints.

I love it, I did go in about a week later and changed the time loop setting to record in 5 minute incriments. I think it was originally 30 seconds. I also have it set to just start recording over the previous files as well. I figure if I'm in an accident or something I'll pull the files off well before it would risk writing over. It still looks amazing live and takes super clear video. I'm extremely pleased.

I have the rove r2-4k. It takes great video. Luckily the only time I had to pull video from it was because we saw a very bright meteor. I also ordered dash cam install kit Soni could hard wire it to a switched power source in the fuse box. Tucking the wires in the trim wasn't bad and only had to pull a few to do it all.

Features you should care about: look for buffered parking mode (so it saves the 5–15 seconds before/after a bump), solid heat tolerance with a supercapacitor since batteries puff in hot cars, built-in GPS with speed plus easy clip export (in case you care about getting clips), and a CPL filter to cut windshield glare. Also check if it includes hardwire kit support with a low-voltage cutoff so you don’t drain your battery. For reccs-I always recc everyone the [Rove R2]( https://x.com/jamaxo97324/status/1980243574534074742) because its simple to install and use based on my experience. Just don’t go for some no-name dash cam, they’re cheap but a major headache in the long run

I have a 2023 HR-V and got a a Rove 4K Pro under $100 on Amazon. Oh but, comes without storage so I got the max size for this dashcam, SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card 512gb around $60 US. I didn't feel like running wires ...and didn't feel the need for parking mode operation (wiring to fusebox where power is avail when not running), especially since the Honda battery is small..if I change my mind I would use a separate power pack. Chose one with no rear view, and Bought a (super high quality) Anker USB A to USB C Cable, Charger Cord 6 ft, letting the cord dangle straight down from its near-mirror windshield mount position, wrapped a couple loops of excess charger cord around the cool center console then plugged into one of the two charging ports on my HR-V. (I need the closer/3rd one with DATA for my phone and Android Auto.) You might find that ugly, but I don't. The Rove comes with a (useless for us) cable+thing requiring cigarette lighter power, and warns about using high power USB-C sources (NOT a concern for you. I researched specs of camera and HR-V USB power but forgot details, amps/watts.) Setup: I disabled the vehicle SPEED reporting/recording function (allows you to simply not show MPH in the saved videos) after pondering the wisdom of that. If it were my kid's car I would not disable..

I was in the same boat, had a cheap dash cam that only recorded in weird 1-minute clips and constantly corrupted files. I switched to the [Rove R2-4K](https://amzn.to/4nL7JR7), and it’s been solid. It records super clear video (4K front), loops automatically, and saves impact footage with the G-sensor. It’s easy to set up, supports big SD cards (up to 512 GB), and you can pull clips to your phone over Wi-Fi. For around $100, it’s probably the best “set it and forget it” dash cam I’ve tried.

I have one of these: https://amzn.to/4juNUv5 You'll also need a durable MicroSD card for the video to record to: https://amzn.to/4juNUv5 Keep in mind you need to replace the SD card every 3-5 years. They can only handle so many read/write cycles before they degrade. You can download stuff straight to your phone. It's just powered by USB. If you can charge your phone, you can power a dash cam.

I have a Rove R2-4K Dual, and since I don't have a sunroof, installation was a breeze. I shot the rear cam cable down the center of the roof behind the headliner (the roof console and rear dome light are easy to remove), then ran down the A pillar to get power. The front one tucks nearly ahead of the rear view mirror. I also got a polarizing filter for the front one, which helps clarity a lot. Image quality is pretty good, but I do need to switch fuses so it's on in "sentry" mode, just in case.
