r/pouroverElectronic grinder for pourover, aeropress and drip - should I just get a Baratza Encore?

Underscoring this. I have been hand grinding for years for pourover and recently with my MoccaMaster KBGV. It's not sustainable with 5 am wake ups--so now it's the Drip maker for my first cups of the day. I wanted to do batch grinding and looked at all the contenders including Baratza and Fellow --then I remembered Eureka. I ended up, for my usage case with the Eureka Mignon Filtro Silent. I needed something a bit quieter and had seen this at a friends. I like all the features and versatility and got a good price in the USA. I can change the burrs if I ever get back into chasing the ultimate Espresso but the burrs in these pourover/drip units make a good enough Espresso and for all my other usages--pourover, drip, MoccaPot, aeropress, frenchpress--good to go. Longevity wise the Eureka units just go and go. They are in wide use at commercial establishments globally .

I have a Eureka Mignon Filtro Silent grinder. I only can say, if you're a one grinder person it works for Espresso, it works for pourover, it works for drip. I can't imagine these other grinders wouldn't do the same. I got an Amazon scale (electric) that does Tare and it is a reliable weight. I tested with clock weights which are very precise (don't ask). I can't speak ratios on the Moccamaster. I picked up a recipe on many many long term Moccamaster sites that have me doing a 60 grams of ground coffee to 1 liter of water in the reservoir. You can half that . good beans, good grind. Yummy

It's so interesting with the Eureka Mignon series globally. I just ordered the Eureka Mignon Filtro Silent in the USA. It has a larger dial on the machine, no timer ( I don't need one) and is the same motor and housing we all love, plus some easier access for cleaning. I don't have a fancy Espresso machine but I know I can change the burr if I need to at a low coast.

Yes for two reasons. 1) for diehards--you can simply plunk in the Espresso Burr (50mm) for $20-$30 and the machine is the best of both worlds (Espresso and pourover/drip/french press) 2) the existing 50mm burr when set to it's finer settings to finest has been said to do a fine job with Espresso -that would be for folks that are not science precise about their pull.

I have the Eureka Mignon Filtro Silent (EMFS)---It is like the quietest best bang for the buck out there. The silent technology works--I've used the non silent next to this and it's notably quieter. Motor size matches more expensive Mignon grinders and it's got a base mounted on / off switch you don't have to hold. You don't have to push the hopper or dosing cup against a front mount button. Here's the kicker--I'm very diverse in my coffee---pourover for years, drip (moccamaster), Phin coffee, turkish and French Press--how's that? I decided on the EMFS--under $300--ships with the filter burrs which work very nicely for Espresso AND you can buy Espresso burrs (OEM) from many places for $30-$40--swap to Espresso burrs ==and those burrs are fine to do double duty for pourover/drip Eureka are built rock solid--been in business for years. I would recommend if you get a EMFS--it has a bigger adjustment dial compared to some of there other machines--you have to mentally keep track of where you were, where you're going for settings---Sooooo----I added a third party ARO dial which is incredible--I can see exactly where my varied espresso settings on---turn that dial, I go way up to my coarse settings. Ready for Epresso--back down--easy peasy!

Eureka Mignon Filtro has been great. I have the Eureka Mignon Filtro Silent. It is quiet in the morning. The burrs are designed for folks that do more drip/pourover/aeropress. The burrs also do a good job with Espresso. Bonus if you get into Espresso, for either model (if you don't want to pay for the quiet feature (it does come with a larger motor matching more expensive Mignon models)--the Eureka Filtro you can change burrs to Espresso burrs.

Yep, I have two eureka mignons. One is the silenzio for espresso, the other is their filter grinder. Especially with the dial on the mignons, I got fed up redialling when I wanted to swap between brew types. Heck, I’d almost buy a third for a ‘guest bean’ 😂

r/espressoGirlfriend Says Hand Grinder Has to Go - Help Me Choose My First Electric Grinder [~500€]

As a mignon filtro owner (pre-brewburr) version. I oive the thing. Its a really good price and does what i need it to. The timer knob is consitant and accurate but kinda fussy to get dialed in. As a result i single dose with a 3d printed funnel and a 30 degree tilt to make it near zero retention. Like 1g retention at the worst. I see no upgrade personally unless i go for a monolith

I'd personally get a filter-only grinder. Wait for a sale, grab an Ode Gen 2, and buy an espresso grinder when the time comes (DF54 is insane value). The best grinders for double duty are medium-high clarity conical grinders like Comandante, K-Ultra etc IMO. The Femobook A5 and Lagom Casa are a couple electric grinders that are in the same category (I haven't tried either, but they're well reviewed). I previously used a Lagom Mini for both filter and espresso and it was fantastic. The DF54 and 64 both do a decent job at filter, but it's not great. The 64 mm SSP MP burrs are often recommended as a do-it-all burr set, but they are for a very specific espresso profile and they are not beginner friendly for espresso. I didn't enjoy the espresso with them. SSP Cast are supposed to be decent for both, but you're giving up the clarity everyone is always seeking. A couple other decent options that I've tried are Ditting 54mm steel burrs in the Vario+ and Eureka's 50 mm brew burrs in an entry level mignon. The UX is not ideal with either of these setups compared to a grinder designed to single dose. If the Ditting burrs fit in the DF without crazy mods it would be a great option. Edit: I forgot to mention that there are now brew burrs available for the DF54. I'm planning to grab a set to try out once they're available in Canada.

The Eureka Mignon series will grind to the 190-195 micron range depending on which model.

Yes, I think they are great. Much less retention than the Mignon we originally bought & then returned. Easy to adjust, reliable. We use it for decaf, V60 & filter in a small cafe.

Two grinders is better than one if you switch brew methods. Ode + Mignon = better filter + no dial-in pain. Single “do-it-all” grinders always compromise.

Have owned all the grinders on your list, at one point or another. Agree that Duo might be your best bet. Ability to play with other 83mm burrs is a good hedge against future curiosity. Recommend getting second (filter) burr option, because having the extra carrier for fast(ish) swaps is nice. Cannot recommend the Eurekas. Good build, very pretty, but burrs are proprietary and the grind chamber/chute design is antediluvian. Fine for hopper base on-demand grinding, but crap for single dosing. Even with the mods (tilted base, bellows), retention is terrible. Eureka’s attempts at single-dosing focused grinders are not honest efforts. Just a new model name and superficial accessories. And their new dial is just…stupid. Still not enough ratio to overcome the thread lash in their adjustment screw. The rev counter is nice enough, but a big dial like [this](https://www.amazon.com/ARO-EspressoTM-Eureka-Mignon-Adjustments/dp/B0CLCB8VQ6/ref=asc_df_B0CLCB8VQ6) is much more effective (and not stupid looking, imho) Libra portafilter contact sensor was unreliable. I heard they fixed it, but I had given up already and moved on. When it worked, it was…ok. Weight accuracy wasn’t bad, but irrelevant because it was a hot mess of sprayed grounds. RDT absolutely necessary in my environment (20-50%RH over the year), but the extra moisture caused caking/clogging in the chute. From a taste perspective…it’s ok. Blendy, decent body, not a lot of clarity. Little unkempt and harsh. Good in milk drinks. Niches — good workflow, probably among the best, even compared against titan grinders at 5x the price. Personally, not a fan of Mazzer burrs. Harsh and bitter finish. The Zero doesn’t have any options for their 63mm conical, so you’re kinda stuck. The stock Duo espresso burr was, to me, a cleaner version of Zero profile. Other options: Mazzer Philos. The grinder itself is a bit pricey, and rumor has it that the i200D and 189D burrs are big improvements over Mazzer traditional flavor profile — but it’s a good platform for 64mm burr space, where you are spoilt for choice and the burrs are cheaper than 83mm. Hope that helps

Eureka Mignon it is. You can buy a third-party steps dial (Etsy should have it) that would help you go back and forth
