Garmin and Coros are the top of the industry for heart rate and fitness watches. Frankly Apple Watches aren’t even comparable. That being said there has been some research that shows heart rate wrist monitors on these watches aren’t accurate all the time. The new ones with the latest technology seem to be pretty damn accurate in my experience. If you’re interested in heart rate training I highly suggest a garmin or coros and then pair it with a chest monitor. You can get a chest monitor and pair it to your watch for like $75-150 bucks but like the watch it should last years. Smart watches are not BIFL IMO
The first and arguably best choice id recommend for anyone is the Garmin Instinct 2 (or the larger Instinct 2X), that’s about it, check it out and see what you think Yes it has smart notifications but you can fully turn off Bluetooth at the system level, and when you do, those notifications are completely gone just like many other models in the market, they’re not as intrusive as you think If you want something even simpler, check on the Suunto Core and if you want to go for something a bit more on the high end side, check on the Coros Vertix 2 which is a premium option but has an insane battery life, dual-band GPS and amazing performance over smart features. Funnily enough, I got both the Instinct 2 and the Coros Vertix which I alternate between but the Coros hits differ with the premium feel idk. For your needs (off‑grid, multi‑day, altimeter/barometer/compass plus maps and long battery), the Coros Vertix 2 is one of the best options: it offers very long battery life (up to around 140 hours with GPS), offline topo and landscape maps, and robust ABC sensors.
I love my Coros as a navigation tool. My phone very rarely comes out for navigation now.
"No Feature locking" is not true. Fishing modes are not shipped to all watches, just Nomad and vertix. Also other activity modes are not available on all watch models although it is not a hardware issue
My Coros Vertix is awesome, but it's been a looong time between versions and Suunto has gone way past Coros now in battery life and features. Coros need a new Apex and Vertix otherwise they're going backwards.
My Coros watch has amazing battery life. I went on vacation for 10 days and knew I'd be fine not charging it.
I have a Coros watch. The batteries last forever.
Coros is about half the price for the same features and its not a military contractor…
I loved coros for a year. Now, I absolutely regret getting a coros. Why? Pro - Good pricing - Great battery This is until it stopped working completely after a year. Yes apparently you get a warranty but customer support ia basically just a trashy bot. The watch is completely dead after one year, it seems impossible to get hold of someone. Yah, my Garmin was expensive but it didn't just work for a year. Apparently you get what you paid for and if you spend less, you get ...a watch for 12 months.
