r/ouraringOura ring or Whoop for sleep tracking
about 2 months ago

I was in the same boat and I've tested everything. I've kept the apple watch for every day use and notifications, and the ring only for sleep tracking. And now if you use apps like Bevel, you basically have the exact same experience from Whoop but with the sleep data from the ring and the activity tracking from the watch.

The only problem I have found with this is it’s very bad a step tracking when on the bicep. It does well when you are running or on a walk but doing regular old stuff it doesn’t do the best at steps

r/whoopMy HONEST review of the 5 MG.

My HONEST review of the 5 MG. So to start with, I'm not an athlete, I go to the gym every now and again, and try to stay fairly active. What I am... is a tech guy, a stats guy, someone who loves data. Last year, I discovered the Whoop 4 after seeing ads for it on social. I spent most of the year wearing one until I had some health problems in December. I had to have some tests, and one critical piece of information that would have been useful was a baseline ECG reading. I couldn't provide it, and it actually hindered my recovery. That was the day I stopped wearing a Whoop, and bought an Apple Watch. Fast forward to today. My MG arrived a few days ago and I'm now back to all the data I used to love with the addition of an ECG and BP. I'll start with the BP reading. We have a blood pressure machine at home so it was straight forward for me to calibrate the MG. Initial results suggest it's pretty accurate, but time will tell. I'll do comparisons over the next few months. Not onto the ECG. Look.. it's ok, it's not as good as Apple's. It's harder to use, seems to be fairly accurate but can give some odd results if not held very specifically. It does the job for me. Let's talk about the quality of the band and device. The device feels premium, the band and clasp feel cheap AF. Because, let's be real with ourselves, they ARE cheap. The material is cheap. The finish isn't particularly amazing. When third parties produce an MG band I'll be first to try them. The packaging felt cheap, it didn't feel expensive at all. I often keep my tech boxes, I won't be keeping this. As for everything else, the app, the functionality, well yeah it's what I loved before. Now... price. I pay monthly. I pay £39. Is it worth that? No, that's pretty ridiculous in my eyes. Am I willing to pay it? Yeah.. because no other device gives me the distraction free data I crave. Do I agree with all the moaning here and concerns? Yeah, you're all valid, Whoop took the piss and have moved the goalposts. But I'm a sucker for tech, and most of you are too, so even though I disagree with their practices we're all going to fall in line and consume. Let's be honest. Short version: It's a good device, new features are decent, it's overpriced but unique to the market.

Will tell you for sure Helio definitely isn’t for you, sleep tracking is cooked. Can’t even recommend Whoop bc the Step tracking on that is generationally bad. First world problems

Does the step tracking normally work for you? To be honest, I’ve never had such an inaccurate tracking like on the whoop

r/whoopIs Whoop actually worth the hype?

If you have an Apple Watch 9, you’re happy with it and it fits you’re lifestyle then why look for hype. If you want hype, buy hype but it should be about what you think is right for your needs. The Apple Watch is a smartwatch + fitness device. The whoop is a fitness device only. I had an Apple Watch for years and I liked it at the start but over time it became less suitable for me. I often work or study in environments where I must take off anything worn on the wrist. The whoop costs me more but I can wear it on the bicep and the battery is significantly longer. I personally prefer the whoop because it is more suitable for me. You have to decide what is right for you based on what you want from your wearable.

If you need a watch you need a watch, but does it have to be smart? I would strongly recommend the bicep band. I only wear my whoop on the bicep as it is needed for work but it is also much more comfortable. If your Fitbit is dying and you are considering a garmin, just replace the Fitbit with a garmin and then decide if you also want a whoop. I don’t have garmin but I’ve seen many users doing side by side comparisons with garmin and whoop and seeing different results because they have different sensors. I can’t tell you if you shouldn’t buy 2 trackers. I myself have considered an Apple Watch addition in recent months because the whoop lacks GPS and carrying your phone while jogging is not always ideal. I bought the whoop because I work and study in environments where I’m not allowed to wear anything on my wrist or hands and regularly have to remove watches; the bicep band gives me something that no other wearable does. Don’t want to have both your wrists taken up, wear your whoop somewhere else; there are multiple options. I just don’t recommend having a whoop, garmin an Fitbit. The Fitbit seems redundant when you already have the two.
