the best wireless headset I've used... easily the Audeze Maxwell, nothing else comes close sound quality wise... not under $200usd though

The first pair of Maxwell I bought had great volume or at least they were perfectly normal like any other headset I used. I returned them because the cost gave me a little buyer's remorse. I thought they were good but maybe not $300 good. There were way too many people in this subreddit with messed up drivers and I take my headphones on trips sometimes so I bailed. The second pair was a year or two later because I missed what I remembered the sound quality to be. I don't know if it was a firmware problem or what but the volume on those absolutely sucked! I had to put them at 70% instead of 35 or 40 to play games with all the detail coming through. It was silly. I could listen to them at 100% with no pain which is impossible on any other headset I own. I read somewhere that Audeze made some firmware changes to avoid the driver damage people were having. I don't know if that's true but I returned those. I'm not sure about version 2. I think they have wiped out the sub bass with a port so that people can't damage the drivers with air pressure. Not sure I want that in a headset that costs even more. That mute switch buried in a hole looks like it sucks too. I mute my mic all the time in conference calls if I need to cough or I won't need to talk for an extended period of time.

Actually, if you care at all about side tone, it sounds like the 2 are an upgrade in that department. That is my biggest issue with the M1.

I have the Maxwell 1 (still waiting for the M2 to be shipped) and a Vizio 5.1.2 soundbar setup. If I could play single player games exclusively with my soundbar setup, I would do that all the time. However, I have the same problem you do, I need to keep the volume low. Unfortunately it's impossible to replicate the sense of 3d audio you get with a 5.1 surround with stereo headphones. That being said, the Maxwell is as good as it gets for wireless gaming headsets. They are made for immersion in games primarily. They reproduce fine details very well, you will hear a lot of the ambient noise with greater detail. I think you just need to try them for yourself and choose if you want loudness + detail reproduction over spatial 3d audio. Also the Maxwell takes some time to get used to due to their weight. Expect the first few sessions to be short while you build up neck strength.

TBH, the Maxwell 1 is excellent already. If you want to save money, definitely go for it. Maxwell 2 is the option for those who want an updated product at a similar price to the first.

I’ve had the Maxwells for about a year. No complaints, sound great 👍. The only issue is they are very heavy vs other headphones, just be ready for that. They’re surprisingly robust; I’ve dropped them a bunch and have no issues.

If you are looking for a wireless 'gaming' headset, and are used to a more neutral tune, like your Sennys, you have to do some research on which headsets come close to that. Out of the box, most gaming headsets have a weird tune compared to what you're used to, including all Razers. Some more recent notable wireless gaming headsets that sound great from an 'audiophile' standpoint are the Audeze Maxwells, Astro A50X, and Hyper X Cloud 3 S Wireless. Those come out of the box with a great tune, close to the Harman curve. You can also get a lot of other headsets to sound great with some EQ. Something like the Fractal Scape or Nova Elite sound great with a modest EQ. GadgetryTech on YT offers awesome 'audiophile' EQs for a lot of headsets. Also, if you are using a modern gaming headset, make sure you have any corny 'surround sound' or spatial type features turned off. Since you've been using the same set for 16 years, you also have to give some time to adjust to the sound of a new headset. Even something slightly different might sound a bit weird at first if you aren't that experienced with different audio products overall. Many people still totally write off any wireless 'gaming' headsets, and imo that perspective is outdated in 2025. You can get really awesome, low latency audio quality with wireless headsets these days. Yes, for absolute dollar spent, you can get the best 'value' by sticking with a wired setup, but if you value the convenience or features from a wireless setup, you *can* get a great sounding setup if you're willing to do some research and drop the coin.

Wireless 'gaming' headsets don't use bluetooth. Also the Maxwells sound incredible from an audiophile standpoint. You should update your viewpoint with whats currently avalable.

Just my two cents owning both the original Maxwell and the Nova Pro. Maxwells sounds great but the weight of them became uncomfortable after a period of time. For me a half hour or so. For addition weight added to them really made it a no brainer to pass. Again sounds great, limited connections, passable mic.

Just a comfort for me. Maxwell ones sounded great but again, way too heavy to wear for a long time. I can wear the novas all day. It’s a different sound signature it’s not like at the end of the day you have a way worse headphone. Comfort first! Favorite headphones are the focal bathys.
