I live in a one bedroom NYC apartment with wood, tile and low pile carpet. I have 2 dogs who shed constantly and a beautiful wife who also sheds constantly. I previously had an X 40 ultra. It was constantly getting tangled, even with the tri cut brush. Plus, after a few months it really just wasn’t picking up debris. Even though I serviced the filters, base station etc. So far with the L50 I haven’t had any of those issues. The only real complaint I have is the battery life and its navigation/map took a few weeks to really dial in with my apartment.
I’ve got a Dreame x40, and my sister in law has a Dreame l30. We’re both super happy with them.
I had an x40 ultra that got warranty refunded. I’m in my first week with my L50 ultra and I’m cautiously optimistic. After a few days fiddling with settings it is operating how I would like it and doing a decent job of it. It does have the hardware for matter but is not “yet” supported. The only negative I have so far is that it’s battery life is atrocious.
I’m about a month in with my L50 Ultra. I’m in a 750 SF NYC apartment with wood floors, tile and 3 low pile area rugs, 2 sheddy dogs and a sheddy (beautiful) wife. After reading this post I just flipped my bot over for the first time to check the brush. ZERO tangling. It does fantastic on the hardwood/tile and I would say it’s very very respectable for the carpet. I upgraded after an X40 Ultra had a fatal error and am much happier with this unit than the X40 Edit: the “hair compaction” feature in the base station also seems to be quite effective.

My home is a mix of hard floors and rugs. Last week, on a whim, I got the Shark PowerDetect 2in1 (vac and mop) from Amazon for £477. I was impressed with the cleaning power of it but had to send it back because I was unable to get it to clean under my sofa or up to the kickboards in my kitchen. I would have kept it if it wasn’t for that. Today I got a Dreame X40 Ultra Complete for £699 as I did my research this time and have found it to be a lot better suited to me and totally covered what was missing from the Shark.
I got my first robot vac last week, a Shark 2in1, and found that the app/controls were lacking (I couldn’t get it to clean under my cupboard doors up to the kickboards or under my sofa) so I called Shark and they told me to send it back for a refund. I did some more research and got a Dreame X40 Ultra Complete that I am very happy with.
the mopping portion in my opinion is definitely worth it, considering most models that come with mopping also come with other convenience features beyond just mopping that justify a higher price. Even so, just because you can find good RVC's at a premium doesn't mean you have to pay a premium, the DREAMME X40 Ultra and L40 Ultra are great examples of RVC's that give you good quality of life features and can be had for a better price than the model you we're looking at.
Hello, I may be a bit late to the conversation but figured I'd throw my hat in the ring anyway. I think for your needs, the Dreame X40 Ultra would be a great fit. It has great customizable mopping for your tile, has sensors specifically made for rugs if you'd like the robot to avoid cleaning them or clean them better. The battery life is substantial enough as well to handle the area you are needing cleaned as well, and the best part is the X40 Ultra is definitely competitively priced considering its features, and you can get the best price by ordering from physical stores that ship free across the U.S. Hopefully this was a little helpful and you can make the best decision for your home, thanks for taking the time to read and happy hunting!
Hello, glad you're looking for a new RVC. If I could recommend one that would be similar to the N30 model you were thinking about at purchasing, I would look at the Dreame X40 Ultra. I know I'm a little biased, but, from personal use and going out to people's homes, the X40 is a great machine for the current price to feature set you're getting out of it. The X40 Ultra will have a good LiDar scanner that constantly maps your home as it explores, has 3d structured lights which help it avoid or detect objects and has good mopping/sweeping functions that clean corners fairly well. Battery life is great as well so it can cover a fairly large area before needing to recharge, and when it comes to setting up schedules/zones, that can all be customized to your liking in the app. you specify you need zone mapping and scheduled cleaning for specific zones which you can most definitely program. for example: if you'd like room 1 and room 4 to only be vacuumed at 4pm but not room 2 and 5 then yes you can do this. very customizable cleans as well, so you can set strength of suction and wetness of mopping. it's worth looking into, especially if you live in the US, as the physical stores ship for free and have the better pricing/promos than online. For the price it's hard to find a better deal. hopefully this helps a little and if you're in need of more info feel free to reach out. Happy hunting!
Hello, for what you're looking for as far as features and budget goes I'd recommend the Dreame X40 Ultra and the Dreame X50 Ultra. these models have great suction and capability when it comes to cleaning up hair and mopping on vinyl surfaces as well. The X40 Ultra will be the more budget friendly model of the 2 at a $499.99 price tag, which is still solid value for the features the X40 has. The X50 Ultra will definitely be the more expensive of the 2 with a $1200 price tag before tax, which if you don't mind paying for dual brush cleaning, faster self charging base and self cleaning dryboard than I think it's also a solid contender. I know this post was from a few days ago but still wanted to give my two sense on the matter and hopefully this helps you with your search, happy hunting!
Out of the two Dreame models you asked about, I'd go with the X50 if its superior vacuuming and fur cleaning you're looking for. It will have duo brushes to agitate and pick up better when vacuuming and better overall suction to pick up more debris on a single pass through. X40 isn't a bad machine at all, but for medium carpets with dog fur shedding, I'd go X50 and be happy with the purchase the first time around rather than wishing I had went with the other model. The Mova will be similar in terms of build to the X40 so I wouldn't go that route, plus they get you 3 years of warranty versus 5 yrs on the Dreame. Roborock will be the next best one when comparing it to the X50, they'll have similar sensors for objects and quality of life features such as voice control and self cleaning, the Roborock just costs a bit more but will be similar overall, so if it were me choosing between the 4 models, X50 is an easy choice. Hope this helps, Happy Hunting!
Hello, glad you're looking for a new robot vacuum, for the price to performance ratio a comparable Dreame model would be an X40 Ultra which in my opinion is a great vacuum for the price, its suction power is similar to the narwal as well as mapping capability but at a better value. I think it's worth looking into. likewise if you want a Dreame in the budget of $1000 you're looking for, the X50 Ultra is an easy sell right now since it went on sale recently, better suction, fast charging and self-cleaning dry board are all great quality of life features worth the upgrade. hope this helps a bit, and happy hunting!
Hello, If you're looking for something that's great for pet hair, has great battery and sensors for carpets/rugs as well, I'd suggest going for either the L40 Ultra and the X40 Ultra models from Dreame. Both will come free with Cutting Brushes that are designed with fur/hair in mind, and they also have strong suction for cleaning carpets/rugs as well. They don't break the bank either, with current physical store promotions, hope this helps narrow down the search, and happy hunting!
X40 Ultra is a great option, not sure what your budget is, but it is Dreames flagship model from last year and is currently being sold for a great price. It's a fantastic buy for the price as it has good suction, battery and some good sensors for obstacle avoidance and mapping. If it is in your budget, it is definitely worth the purchase.
Check out the Roborock q5 max+ Now this is a bit over budget, but Dreame has a refurbished store on eBay and was selling the x40 ultra refurbished for $399 last week. Just bought one the other day. Looks like they’re out of stock but I wouldn’t be surprised if they get more in if you keep an eye out. They also have the [l40 ultra for $449](https://ebay.us/m/UROL86) rn. You will not beat that value and performance at that price. Just wanted to point it out in case you have some wiggle room as you get better vacuuming, self refill and emptying mopping, plus cleans its own mop pads.
Well said. I’ve tried a few of the pricier ones and just bought a Dreame l40 ultra as my “budget” option to compare. While I think the pricier ones are a bit better in performance (in some ways, not all) it just feels silly spending $800+ on a machine whose features will be dated in just a couple years. I mean just take the Dreame x40 ultra for example. Last year they sold new at $1900. Now you can get one for around $500. And You cannot beat the value of the l40 ultra or Mova p10 pro ultra. I think it’s the perfect robot for most peoples needs.
Hey how is yours working? I ordered the exact same one and maybe mine is a dud but it keeps going in circles with no rhyme or reason. It’s also registering carpets when there are no carpets there.

The x40 that I bought was refurbished and had wonky navigation so I sent it back, but bought a new l40 ultra and I really like it. The navigation is pretty good and object avoidance has been pretty solid too. Is it perfect? No. And the T80 is probably still a bit better at mopping. But it was good enough for me to realize that it wasn’t worth paying the extra money for the T80 or e28. So both of them got sent back and I kept the l40 ultra. As for the Mova v50, I have it sitting in its box still in my house as I decided I’m going to send it back for the fact that I don’t feel it’s worth me spending twice the price as the l40 ultra for what is likely marginal performance gains. Don’t get me wrong I am sure it is better, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the robot vac tech is just moving so quickly that spending money on a premium robot whose features will be dated in just a couple years wasn’t a good idea. So I’m happy with the performance of the l40 ultra and will be keeping that one.
Dreame was selling refurbished x40’s on eBay for $399 the other day. Such a killer deal I had to snag one.
Valetudo just got support for a couple of eureka robots, the J15 for example looks really decent. Otherwise the Dreame X40 Ultra Heat also supports Valetudo.
Yea, I‘ve heard about the versions mess of dreame. That’s one of the reasons that there will be no further support for future dreame robots. Unfortunately I don’t have any trustworthy tests of the X40. It is just the newest dreame model that supports valetudo. There is also the mova p10 pro ultra, which seems to be decent. But this one is basically not available on Germany
It is just a possibility if you get a step wrong or are to slow. It is not complicated, but the last step of rooting the robots needs to be completed within a time limit. So it needs to be done carefully and well prepared. I know, that’s a big disadvantage of the Eureka robot. That’s why the X40 would be still my favorite
I already have Dreame X40ultra , but the issue with these robo vacuums with mob functionality is that their cleaner liquid is very expensive. I am still searching for cheaper alternative. Its working great though its still dumb and repeated mapping done still it gets stuck in 1 or 2 places. When it vacuums the floormat its sound is high which can get a annoying. P.S. be ready for expensive cleaning liquid supplies if you choose mob functionality version.
I find a lot of good information on YouTube and also I've had robots since they came out in the beginning cuz I was into rescuing dogs! I had three different robotic Vacuums at the same time two of them were mop combos dreamy x40 and the narwal freo z.. I liked both really well but I thought that the Narwhal was a bit better at mopping and the dreamy was better at vacuuming and also had a better battery life but since I had a robot that also vacuumed I stuck with the Z. I get a lot of information from people that have them and I also get a lot of help because people try a bunch that I haven't tried and I get to find out real world experience with them. Just like I got an e25 you fee and I'm telling people how I really think about it. I really think that they are coming a long way fast! The other difficult thing is that everybody's got a different type of house or apartment and so what works really well in one house may not work well in another.
Some of us really like narwal.. I took it over the dreamy x40 Ultra cuz I had both of them at the same time and the quality seems to be better on my Z has more features it's going to be a tough decision between the flow and the dreame version of the roller mop
Hence my comment about my roomba i8+... and vacuums much faster and much better than all of the newer models with a single anti tangle roller! I've never had any problems with my Roomba having tangles maybe the early ones in the early 2000s so pretty much what happens is I vacuum with it all over the house and then mop with the other one because I can't mop and vacuum my entire house with the same machine at this time.. the dreamy x 40 was the only one that could actually vacuum and mop almost my whole house.. but I was terribly paranoid about the extending arm because people were saying it was breaking on them?!
I want the new dreamy cuz I liked the battery life of my x40 my Z is okay but I can't vacuum and mop whole house.. and right now my Roomba has decided to come out on its own and vacuum for me?! LOL
I still have I8+ roomba and still use it to vacuum as most robots these days are kinda slow because of having to think so hard lol.. most won't clean to the edges sufficiently dreame x40 did cuz of arm but didn't like spin brushes leaving a gap when mopping...narwal z had for 8 mos no real problems but again vacuuming seems better with 2 rollers like roomba's..but does decently enough when mopping and vacuuming..all of them get stuck sometimes 🤔 but freo z does have great obstacle avoidance but uses a bunch of water.. e25 liked but mop didn't extend and vacuum was meh.. have 3i s10 now but it does get stuck in a few places ..doesn't like some carpets but does have water recycling and drawing it from the humidity in air..super cool! also have checked water quality and it is great! for mopping..doesn't leave weird mottleing on my white tile.. but have been hearing people having to return them cuz things go wrong with them?. I also use this one in mop and vacuum mode after roomba goes 1st cuz that seems to help it go closer to cabinets.. I clearly have an issue cuz I want to keep them all! They need better battery life, and faster processing to finish jobs..seems more innovation more problems so depends on your particular house but don't give up the roomba just yet lol I've had mine since it came out!! And it keeps going even with same battery it came with but I take care of it / them maintenance wise..
Agreed had x40 dreame that was nice and I really did like 3i s10 some except quite a few ppl had problems with smell from inside ?
I have the very same issue in the kitchen. I had a X40 pro and it was already not the best. But the aqua roller is worse! I tried ten days and really gave it a chance. But I really don’t see one single reason for keeping it. Very disappointing
Aqua ultra roller owner here: be careful about the height of the robot. My former X40 ultra was able to go under my couch but this one is way too high.
I tried the aqua 10 roller and I was surprised by the results. In a bad way. My guess is that there is not enough pressure on the floor with this system. The robot is not heavy enough and the result is really less than average. As comparison I also have the X40 from Dreame and it is way more efficient. I sent the aqua 10 back.
I had the Dreame 40 and testes the aqua Roller. The Dirty water was light grey compared to the 40 I used before that was way darker. So I assume it cleans less effectively. I sent it back.
