"my roomba with self-emptying base is a - and I cannot stress this enough - fucking lifesaver. ... I owned one without the self-emptying base thing and I never used it because emptying it every time it was full was a barrier I wouldn’t get past. Getting the base where the roomba empties itself is a GAME CHANGER."

"Honestly, when I have it on schedule, it keeps the house clean and I don't see any hair at all"
"To me, the most important thing is cleaning all the dirt and leaves, and trash stuck on his fur from the outside on a daily basis... and the robots take care of that."
"literally NOTHING robot works like an iRobot that I’ve seen so far esp the j7 and the 988 those are the strongest in their class"

"Yesterday my wife left a six way charger on the floor with six USB cables coming out of it and I think that the robot just vacuumed it and carried on and there was no photo but apparently no problem either."
"that can avoid this kind of problem."
"I think my J7 dragged a charging cord once in 3yrs."

"I bought one well over a year ago possibly on year 2. ... If it only lasted a year I’d buy another one. ... It works as well as it did when I bought it."
"I've had my roomba for like 5 years now.. We have 3 big dogs and a cat, in a small house. Still works great, I've replaced the brushes and obviously the filters on it but it still works awesome."
"I had my first for >10 years before I upgraded and no complaints with the one I have"

"The j7 got stuck often, maybe 1 out of 4 cleanings it either sucked up a cat toy or jammed itself under something."

"The charging issues are the most annoying because I have to clean the charging pads 20 times before it starts charging again. ... And the reason I trashed my last Roomba and got a new Roomba was because of the charging pad issue. So i gave roomba 2 chances and both models had the exact same issues"

"it takes forever to clean. ... it takes at least 2x the amount of time to clean the house."
"half the time it isnt running because of a clog in the vaccuum bin or base station. ... The bin is usually easy to fix, but this last time it was the tube that goes to the bag (another expense i didnt have with the shark) and that required disassembly."

I have two dogs and two cats and the j7+ works just fine
r/roomba • Roomba that would stand a chance with a Golden Retriever ->I have the j7 and I have taken it apart more than once to clean it and I'm not super happy with it. I got it at Costco so it might go back before they go belly up. I'll try it again a few more days but I didn't even have it plugged in for 6 months... because we had renovations going on in the house. It's Black Friday week but I prefer to buy from Costco because they do have such a good return policy.
r/RobotVacuums • No carpet, all hardwoods, massive amounts of Bernese mtn dog fur. Any price, USA. ->Pretty darn happy with my roomba j7/9. Comes with a base station that it blows the content into. Super low maintenance that way.
r/germanshepherds • Best Robot Vacuum for Pet Hair Worth Buying Currently? ->I have a roomba j7 and I have two dogs, it's great with dog hair
r/CleaningTips • Best Robot Vacuum And is it worth it? ->I have a J7 as well and it works pretty good but there have been some times when it disconnects from WiFi and I would have to reset the whole vacuum and go through the set up again for it to work again. I think I got my first one about 5 years ago though, so maybe it's been updated since
r/RobotVacuums • Has cleaning performance improved much in the last 10+ years? ->Me, too. This is why I'm here--time to replace Dumbot. This will be my 4th robot vac and definitely not looking at iRobot!
r/RobotVacuums • The 25 most recommend robot vacuums on Reddit, by price (in the past year as of Jul 2025) ->My J7+ has always sucked, in all the wrong ways. I named it Dumbot. All I hear is Alexa saying "your Dumbot is stuck". Never understood the great reviews for it.
r/RobotVacuums • The 25 most recommend robot vacuums on Reddit, by price (in the past year as of Jul 2025) ->I have the Wyze robot vac and a roomba self emptying vac. I vastly prefer the performance of the wyze vac.
r/BuyItForLife • Robot vacuum recommendation? ->I have a roomba we named homewrecker because it leaves a trail of destruction behind it. It always knocks over something or gets tangled up in wires.
r/homeowners • Are robot vacuums worth it? I’ve got 4 small kids and I’m always sweeping up the kitchen. Now I have a crawling baby so I’m thinking about getting a robot vacuum, preferably the mop/vacuum kind but they are so expensive! Curious if they are worth it and an investment. ->Irobot has a camera for object avoidance. I think it works pretty great. It worked perfectly in the beginning, but God forbid when you are training the ai(?) by reviewing the photos you ever allow anything as "not an obstacle" then it will run over similar things forever. Like string, after I told it a cord off the ground was not an obstacle. :(
r/Mommit • Favorite robot vacuum that can navigate around kids toys? ->I have "only" owned 3. A ecovacs which always broke, a brava moping one and a i robot j7. My favorite is the i robot j7. It has an auto empty version, but I have the regular. It has object detection (4/5 stars) and room mapping (2/5) over the 3 years I've had it it does stupid crap all the time with room boundaries and eating paper, but I can fix that if I go fight with the settings I hope. My fav part is the robustness, if it encounters a huge problem, the only parts that break are those (and then rarely) are those meant to swap out.
r/homemaking • What's the current best robot vacuum that you've ever owned for home use? Really worth it? ->We love ours. We have one for upstairs and downstairs. Don’t try to get a cheap one, we did that and went through a couple of them pretty quickly. Now we have two good ones (iRobot) with the bin that they self empty into when they get full. We have three kids, two dogs, and a cat that sheds more than both dogs combined, and having robot vacuums has been a game changer. Before we got the one with the bins, it would get full and need emptying before it finished a whole cycle. Now it goes and empties itself and then goes back to cleaning. It’s some trial and error at first. Just run it the first few times when you’re watching it to see where it has any problems. Then you can try to adjust any problem areas. Our upstairs vacuum doesn’t go into the bedrooms because the kids have lots of tiny Barbie shoes and stuff. We have them clean up good and just regular vacuum real quick every other week or so (and we keep bedroom doors closed so the pets don’t go in there to keep hair shedding out). But the robot keeps the main areas of the house from getting hairballs and dirty. We recently got a robot mop as well, and that has been awesome! I feel like it’s just like having any other vacuum. You have to get everything picked up off the floor before you start. You wouldn’t start regular vacuuming with things still on the floor. If there are areas that it gets stuck often, either block it off or try to adjust any problem areas. We usually pull all of the dining room chairs away from the table so that it can get a good clean under the table and around it. We run the vacuums & mop anytime we leave the house, and it’s so nice coming home to freshly vacuumed and mopped floors!
