So I loved the Speedgoat 5 (wide), the 6 is ok but just isn’t the same. Kind of makes me sad. Challenger is different but I think I like it more than the 6. I know this is probably the wrong sub but does anyone have a road shoe that gives me those SG5 feels with a tread I won’t wear off in a month on the pavement?

I daily wear trail runners. Hoka speedgoat 5s felt like they wore out really quick (but super comfy and I'd do it again if they still made them). Wearing challengers now and I feel like they're doing just fine though. Probably a different compound or something. I'd imagine the answer is just "it depends"

- Bmai Pace6 Trex-Cordura: 35km - LiNing Di Lu 2: 25km , replacing my SG5 for ultra distance - Salomon ultraglide3: 225km - saucony endorphin rift: 25km, a lil too snug n rigid toebox for long distance, so it will be for short distances only for now - asics novablast 3TR: 750km, mainly on non technical cruising use my SG5 n Saucony XU2 just got relegated: - hoka speedgoat5: 475km,the lugs worn out severely, i still kept it around undecided if it worth resole - saucony xodusultra2: 950km, upper medial side already start tearing, lugs worn out

where are you from? are you into shopping china shoe? i have SG5, and currently im running in Li-Ning Di Lu2 (arnv009), and its as close to SG5, or even better midsole feel. only thing, its kinda 0.5cm short on its sizing

i used xu2 for my utmb chiangmai 100k n verbier 100k, theyre plenty cushioned. prior to these 2 races, i used sg5 for transjeju 100k n chiangmai 50k, also comfy. the reason i went for xu2 for my recent races coz theyre less 'bulky' than sg5. so far for my races with dropbag access, i havent swap shoes despite having 2nd shoe in bag, but i do swap socks n insoles(when theyre damp)

I'd buy several pairs of the 3 if they'd rerelease it.

I would look for a wide width option before sizing up even further. If you like the Speedgoat, it is available in a wide width.

I’ve had 2 pairs of Hokas, very comfy but the outsoles do not last very long. My Salomons on the other hand, lugs stay razor sharp for ages.

I’m pretty strict about trail only but there’s a lot of limestone which is rough on it

With hoka do you try wide size and sizing half size up? I had great success with their newest speedgoat in wide and half size up. I also loved the mount to coast h1 in a half size up. I enjoyed the fit but haven’t run in the Nike ACG zegama (also half size up). I do not get along with topo and altra. They have nice toe boxes and brutally narrow midfoots. The shoes above have all fit me really well. The H1 is a bit weird of a feel on step-in but it was a dream to run in. Used 2 pairs for my first 50k training block and race

So when you try them on does your foot fall off the platform? Toes feel crammed up near the front?  I’ve long since given up the Goldilocks shoe but I’ve noticed some things like a feeling of snug isn’t necessarily an outright “no” for a shoe if my foot is securely on the midsole. Hell shoes like the speedgoat are technically looser and more spacious than the mount to coast H1 but I had blister issues in the speedgoat and never got a single blister in the h1 which was much more snug,

Oh yeah the topo vista came in wide and it had a generous midfoot. I think that’ll work for you!  Going a full size up is weird because you’d think it’d work but the heel to toe length actually becomes a problem where your foot’s widest part ends up nearer the midfoot of the shoe (thus the overhang feeling happening there) Speedgoats 5 and 6 didn’t fit me at all in the toebox even wide and half size up but the 7 has really been a great fit. Also one thing to note is most reps understand width as like a toe box exclusively thing imo. If I tell them I have a wide foot it’s always topo and Altra. I don’t think they really take into account wide MIDFOOT

I got the wide SG7s this week and I am quite excited to take them out this weekend. The step in feel and fit is excellent. I hated the 5s and 6s but these seem like they’ll work excellent. I’ve been running in the mount to coast h1 but after 2 pairs I want something more durable and stable
