Btw I have been a lover of Hoka Speedgoat for several years. I use a GTX mid version & use it for mostly trail running in ❄️ winter time. I use the La Sportiva Bushido outside of winter. * hiking boots vs trail runners https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouverhiking/comments/1ltydv7/hiking_boots_vs_trail_runners/ * What shoes do you swear by? https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouverhiking/comments/o77olh/what_shoes_do_you_swear_by/

This thread has been so helpful for me. I love my speedgoat 4s, and have been disappointed by the "improvements" made to the newest Speedgoat models. Not sure if this will gain any traction, but I made a petition with the hope of convincing Hoka to bring back the Speedgoat 4. If you feel similarly, please feel free to sign and share. Likely nothing will happen, but might as well try... [https://chng.it/ttq7VG4zsv](https://chng.it/ttq7VG4zsv)

I dearly loved my Speedgoat 5's, but after 800 kms I had to replace them. Bought the Speedgoat 6's.and they started to fall apart after 300 kms already. Besides that they were uncomfortable as hell compared to the 5's. Reading reviews about the SG7 I'm really torn, some say they're great, others say they're worse than the 6's... Actually more people say they're trash. So I guess I go with Salomon instead, got the Ultra Flow right now, but they're not for technical mountain trails. Through the woods and on gravel roads perfectly fine.

Good to hear that. Yeah I read alot about going at least half a size up and that the toe box in general is rather narrow. The SG5 was perfect in European size 42, whereas the SG6 was a little on the tight side.

Same, I've got 2 pairs and they do great for Trifectas, super comfortable. For people considering, you'll want the cheaper regular version, not the MTX, since you don't want waterproof.

Waterproof helps for shallow water like snow to avoid your socks getting wet. If water gets inside the shoe through the top, like deep water, swimming, dunk wall, it just means the water is trapped inside. The non-waterproof one lets water seep out above the toe box. I have both since I do prefer the waterproof on regular trails, but a lot of the Spartans have some deep water.

I've had two pairs of these - they're okay, but very hard with very little padding. If you have a preference toward those kind of shoes they may be good, you get more control on obstacles and they drain really good but they would tear up my heel and toes. I'd use them in an emergency, but now I've got two pairs of Hoka Speedgoat 6 which I love and use across trifecta days. If you go that route, get the cheaper versions that aren't waterproof, since you want water to be able to drain.

I've got both of the same shoes. The Speedgoats are perfect, I generally like the Spartan shoes too but they have two issues: a lot less padding makes them tear up my heels (even when I taped to try to prevent), and they seem more slippery and don't grip surfaces super well, like Olympus and the rope climb.

I am a fellow widefoot. ordinary speedgoat 6 are too narrow for me, but I tried the wide (W next to the name) version - I love them. really lots of toe space.

tried altra peak 5 wide.. toes have lots of space, bud middle is still too narrow. i am using hoka speedgoat 6 wide and it's perfect. ran 31km today, last 10km in rain and have no blisters. I have them for a year and are worn out (almost no buds left) - that'why I tried altra... but will order SG6 wide again, even if 7 comes out in a few months.

Speedgoat EVO was even better

Switched from the sg to the tomir after getting frustrated with hola continually changibg the sg design too much from year to year (long live the sg3 evo, best shoe ever). Anyways, tomir fit like a glove and broke then in in a 100k. Very happy with the change. Using the more asymmetric version too. Perfect weight, grip, responsiveness, cushion. I'm happy.

Second on giving the Speedgoat 2+s a chance. The 2s were the reason I fell in love with Speedgoats, and they were the best for me through the 4s. I've been replenishing my trail shoe supply with the reboot 2s and they've been working great for me with regard to comfort/fit, grip, and durability.

Same! I hated the 5s and whined the whole time because I couldn't find a suitable replacement. Brooks Cascadia were okay, and I was so happy when the 2s made a comeback.

30 years of collecting. Went through a Hoka phase from like 2018 to 2024. Bondi is super comfortable and I got these sweet like goretex suede speedgoats that are awesome looking. But in general the quality just shits after a few hundred steps. I dont really run I just go for hikes all over. Love trail runners most of the time when on certain trails but a lot of hikes the vomero 18 is my favorite.
