I am a fellow widefoot. ordinary speedgoat 6 are too narrow for me, but I tried the wide (W next to the name) version - I love them. really lots of toe space.

tried altra peak 5 wide.. toes have lots of space, bud middle is still too narrow. i am using hoka speedgoat 6 wide and it's perfect. ran 31km today, last 10km in rain and have no blisters. I have them for a year and are worn out (almost no buds left) - that'why I tried altra... but will order SG6 wide again, even if 7 comes out in a few months.

r/trailrunningWide midfoot runners, what are you running in?

I had same problem with speedgoat 6 wide and Topo mtn racer 3, among other lot of shoes. Mafate speed 4s are a little wider/more volume than the speedgoats if you want to try hoka. I dont run on them more than 3 hours because they still feel narrow to me and cant size up more. Shoes that fit me well and could work for runnable with some technical sections: Asics trabuco 13s: My do it all shoe. From runnable to really technical, the upper gets ripped of easy. Not tall, not too soft but still cuishioned. I have run on them 10+ hours race in very technical high altitude terrain. Asics fujilite: If you are not heavy they could work. I use them for shorter racers and high intensity workouts. Very confortable, but dont have a rockplate and you could feel too much ground if the terrain is rocky. Merrel agility peak 5: Easy running and can handle some technical sections. Dont know if the 6 fits in the same way. Nike Zegama 2: Confortable for easy to moderate terrain. Too soft for really technical stuff in my opinion. Fits nice. Sportiva Akasha 2 and tomir 2: Maybe not the best for the runnable sections, but nice on the technical ones. They are roomy and confortable. I havent tried them but thinking of getting a pair of mount to coast T1 for this years big objetives. They are supposed to be roomy and confortable for long races.

500km is in the "normal" durability range for some shoes. May be the low end, but decent. Depends also in the terrain you run.

what about the fit? Are they still as narrow as the SG6?

r/UltralightWhy is Altra Lone Peak so popular?

I can only speak from my own experience. In everyday life I always wore high stack trail runners and that worked fine because my feet do not really swell during normal use. On long hikes it is a different situation. My ankles are very flexible and I tend to roll them from time to time. Often without serious consequences, but it happens often enough. I ordered and tried several shoes that are popular for thru hikes. The Hoka Speedgoat 6 felt okay for everyday use, but the stack was simply too high for me. With my ankles I would be worried about rolling them on uneven terrain. The Topo Ultraventure 4 was generally fine. Nothing bad, nothing great. The Altra Olympus was terrible for me at the heel and I knew right away it would not work. Then I tried the Altra Lone Peak 9+ and that is the shoe I ended up loving. I have been wearing them daily for months now. They feel light, comfortable and just fit my feet well. I wear them one size larger in everyday life and that works great. I have plenty of toe room and no slipping around. Switching to zero drop and a lower stack felt very strange at the beginning, but now I do not want anything else. The lower stack gives me much more confidence with ankle stability, even if there is less underfoot protection compared to higher stack shoes. One important disclaimer: this is very individual. My feet are narrow and long and everyone feels shoes differently. If possible, just try them. At home or in a store. And if a shoe already feels wrong from the beginning, send it back.

I have hoka speedgoat 6 trail runners and waterproof Merrel Moab 3s.  The Hokas are more comfortable, lighter and cooler for me so I generally wear those more often.  It is very hot here in the summer and I may start wearing the moabs more in the fall and winter.

For now, I can tell that the close to the foot fit between the SG6 and SG7 feel the same for me, definitely more stack and cushion under the heel for the SG7 compared to the SG6. The heel cap is thicker and softer on the SG7. All this feelings about the shoe is my own pov, after trying at my local shop, looking forward to hit the trails...

After my first run with the SG7 the fit is almost the same compare to the SG6, a good fit to the foot but not too extreme like some salomons models, I've tried the mafate 5, definitely more room for the front of the foot...

I’m a true believer that Hoka screwed the pooch on the Speed Goat 6s. The 5s were fantastic shoes.

Everyone's feet are different shapes and sizes. What works for one may not work for another. But anecdotally, I will say I've liked each trail shoe I've punched based on this subs suggestions in the past. I have narrowish feet. I've run a 50 mile race on Nike Zegama 2s, and a 50K long run on Hoka Speed Goat 5s. And trained on trails in both shoes. I like both of them, and would repurchase again if I wasn't one to try New shoes just because. I just picked up Speed Goat 6s tonight and will be running a 30 miler on Sunday in them. (Last long run before a 115 mile race at the end of the month) I can report back her what I think of them post run if interested. I plan on splitting the 115 mile race between all 3 shoes. Again, I can report back on how each one feels during the same race.

As someone who runs in Speedgoat 6s, is if you do get them, get the wide version. Even if you think you don't have wide feet. I never used to be a wide in Hokas and then when they changed fitting and style in the year of the Clifton 7, I've had to go wide ever since for them to be comfortable. My only gripe with the SG6 is the lockdown is a bit meh which caused me a bruised toe recently on a long fast descent during a race. They start to feel a bit firm under foot on longer distances to me. I mainly use them for trail training runs and anything upto a trail half marathon.

I don't have a massive issue with SG6 personally. I went with a wide pair and they're pretty comfortable and durable. I've run almost 200 miles in mine. I would say that the cushioning is probably on its way out, the midsole has been quite compressed now. The vibram sole and the upper is still looking good. I think for anything over a half marathon they'll start to become uncomfortable and a bit harsh on the feet due to the foam degradation. They really need a redesign and a rethink for the SG7. I might look to some ASICS Trabuco Max 4 for some longer distances and more comfort.

r/trailrunningIs Speedgoat 6 that bad?

Honestly I don't get the hate. First Speedgoats for me and after about 50 miles the whole shoe has softened and moulded to my foot like a glove. I always go wide in Hoka without a doubt, if makes a world of difference. Great traction, fit and cushion for me. The upper feels durable although not the most breathable upper I've had. Seems like a solid shoe for me which suits my road to trail antics. Haven't tried running anything over half marathon distance in them though, so not sure how they'd do on an ultra.

Hoka Speedgoat 6 can be found for around $100 usd right now. I got a pair after seeing Harmen doing long hikes in them in a few of his videos. Maybe he’s sponsored, maybe not, (he wears Brooks Cascadias too), but I’ve really liked them. They have a relatively high stack but still maintain a pretty slim profile so they don’t feel clunky.
