Man when you move up from 39” to 45” it’s amazing. My old monitor was the first Alienware 34” IPS ultrawide. No HDR no dimming zones it predated all that but was a great monitor for the size and general picture quality. Moving to the [LG](https://i.imgur.com/mfSk6fb.jpeg) has been amazing. That is the 34” on top it has been relegated to my chat secondary monitor. Yes those are both displaying black 😂
You hand wave away contrast like it is nothing. Unless you have a good mini-led backlight for your IPS, your blacks are light gray. They don't even resemble black. It makes a massive difference even in bright scenes because they often include shadows and other high contrast details that OLED just can't make that beautiful depth for. And once you hit the 5k level resolutions the text issues are essentially gone. The stupid part is those issues have nothing even do do with the monitor they are windows godawful handing of anything other than RGB layout subpixels. And after doing the cleartype tune its a non issue. LCD of any kind has 3 advantages. 1. It is cheap when you're comparing similar models. 2. It has better full scene brightness. The highlights are basically the same but if you need very high full scene brightness then LCD does better. 3. In theory if you really try to these days, you will still be able to get some minor burn in within a few years. In a way I agree with you. For media and gaming, OLED is the undisputed king. For productivity with the fringing you need a literal macro lens to see and the threat of minor burn in after several years, then it is only a 8/10 where LCD can be closer to a 10. But if you have any level of mixed use that has media and gaming anywhere above like 30% LCD is dead, being propped up by its price.
Ya i agree with basically everything except the contrast. I don't really agree with the text either, I literally need a macro photo to see any fringing at all, but you may be sensitive to it. But the contrast you are hugely exaggerating how bad it is compared to OLED without a lot of FALDs. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/TnDgVZi.jpeg) is a pic I took of my nice 144Hz alienware 34" IPS (non miniled) above my LG OLED. I manually adjusted the exposure so it was close to what my eyes see. I never minded it before. I could tell it wasnt great, but you get used to stuff. But god, after the OLED I will never ever go back to a LCD panel. I am sure windows will do better on their cleartype inmplementation soon. Mac for example has 0 fringing on text even under a microscope. It is a solved problem windows is just lagging. But on the whole, I agree. If productivity is your main use, LCD can be a very good choice. And a high end mini-led with a good VA panel can look really nice even compared to OLED. But an IPS wihtout mini-led unless you're full in on producitivty is dead IMO.
Heh I stacked mine vertically with my old alienware 34” IPS The black level difference is [wild](https://i.imgur.com/xkFrBfT.jpeg).
I'm in a somewhat similar boat - I have an AW3418DW that I am loathe to give up if it's going to make the 8 or 9 hours of office work I do each day worse for the 2-3 hours of gaming I do a week. I don't really have a budget though and wouldn't mind moving to a 38" or so but haven't found the right monitor yet to pair with my 3080. Good luck in your search!
Never heard about that issue. But i never looked into the cons of these monitors, lol. But monitors pricing has gone down so much lol. I still have aw3418dw, that was like almost $2000 canadian. My aw3821dw was over $2000. Crazy. Also i dont buy asus stuff. Ive heard bad stuff about the canadian asus boss.
I noticed everyone who says “burn in hasn’t been an issue for 5 years” has a relatively recent monitor. I’ve already seen people using the AW3423DW saying they got burn in after 3 years. my AW3418DW is still being used today (hand me down) as good as new, so it’s not like we’re supposed to throw these out after 3 years. I doubt it’s solved, and I’m saying this as someone who’s using OLED for gaming on 3 different displays but who’s still concerned about burn in for mixed use.

I think it's a refreshing change for smaller markets to get it first. Makes logistical sense since the Country of Origin is China and Vietnam, according to the [AW3926QW Fact & Spec Sheet](https://dell.egnyte.com/fl/YpFKg4vdV7y4?ref=dell.alienwarearena.com#folder-link/EMBARGOED%20May%2031%20%40%207pm%20ET%20-%20XPS%2013%20%26%20Alienware%20Monitors/Alienware%2039%205K%20OLED%20Gaming%20Monitor%20(AW3926QW)/Fact%20%26%20Spec%20Sheet). Computex is also being held in Taipei this week. I was actually eyeing the LG 39GX950B since its announcement at CES 2026 in Jan 2026, but LG was (and still is) dawdling on the release here in Singapore. LG Singapore remains tight-lipped about the local release date, and no updates for Asia were given in the [official Reddit post on its global pre-order launch schedule](https://www.reddit.com/r/LG_UserHub/comments/1ssff3o/lg_ultragear_evo_39gx950b_27gm950b_preorder/) aside from Japan. The [Q&A on LG Korea](https://www.lge.co.kr/monitors/39gx950b) suggests that the first few batches of the monitor were insufficient to meet demand. ~~That, combined with~~ [~~LG Singapore's warranty for the "OLED Gaming Monitor" category being limited to only a year~~](https://www.lg.com/sg/support/warranty-terms/)~~, makes it a no-brainer for me to go for the Alienware.~~ I extended the warranty for my Alienware AW3418DW (3+2 years), and they let me do an Advanced Exchange Service for monitor flickering when overclocked from 100 to 120 Hz (overclock is usually not guaranteed). Best warranty policy of any monitor company, hands down. **EDIT**: Credit to LG Singapore, looks like they actually listened to our feedback and changed the warranty to 3 years! Doesn't look like there's an option to extend, though.
Isn’t Xiaomi know for to much red on there displays? On ultrawide you can just grab a used IPS with Gsync Ultimate and get very long living screen. My old aw3418dw still runs today so it’s now almost 8 years running I gave it to a friend 1 year ago
