Mac user. -My room is bright, no problem with reflections. No bleed on mine. -Have not noticed any eye strain, and my eyes suck to begin with which is nice. -I play Fortnite on occasion connected to my PS5, coming from a 4k 60Hz Samsung, the Dell is much more pleasant. -No dead pixels, sturdy, have it on a monitor arm. Previously posted about it if you want to find it. I would buy again, but also only paid about $225. I just don’t see the need to splurge on an OLED or something triple the price for my intended use just to have it.
Also the built in speakers are very loud lol
I highly recommend going 34 inch Ultra Wide for your use case. I was in the same situation as you, mostly work and productivity with gaming on the side. I don’t think I will ever go back from Ultra Wide for this use case it’s so much better for work to have one continuous screen with plenty of space and the gaming makes it immersive. [Check out the Dell S3425DW](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F1H325FN/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_dl_XA0MWYZ8D2AQVAXPQHFV?linkCode=ml1&tag=qzq-20&linkId=25fcd60d51187329de310bebbb4682d6). This is what I’ve had for the last eight months.
Lots of experience with the IPS P3425WE but recommend the VA S3425DW all day, it's just a nicer more capable image in every way. If money isn't a problem then the IPS Black U3425WE is probably even nicer to look at. but its over priced because of Thunderbolt.
**UPDATE: THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP I WENT WITH U4025QW** I stare at a screen for 12 hours a day. I mainly do 95% productivity and maybe ocassionally 5% the odd game here and there. For work, I use spreadsheets, powerpoint, figma etc. My current set up: 16inch M4 Pro Macbook Pro. DELL 34 Inch S3425DW I have had this monitor for a few months, here are some of my issues: \- PPI density is too low, I can see pixels and text is pixelated. \- It's a little on the small side for productivity \- Colour is terrible (washed out and also just inaccurate) \- Brightness too low \- MY EYES! Eye strain is definetly the biggest gripe. I have noticed in the last month or so significant eye strain from using the monitor. At this point, the pain this monitor is giving me (mainly on my eyes) is actually starting to effect my eye health. It is becoming difficult to work on so I end up having to move text to my macbook to type, kind of defeating the purpose of the monitor. THEREFORE, I am looking to purchase the best monitor on the market for what I do. Money is genuinley no object here and I will pay whatever it takes to get a monitor that doesn't mess with my eyes, is easy to work on. Requirements: \- Ultrawide (I need this for productivity) \- Bigger than 34inch (my current one is too small) \- Dense PPI (so I am not looking at pixelated text \- Easy on the eyes \- Accurate colours and solid quality, strong brightness \- Compatible with 16inch M4 Pro Macbook Pro. These are the ones I am looking at: [https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-ultrasharp-40-curved-thunderbolt-hub-monitor-u4025qw/apd/210-bmdv/monitors-monitor-accessories](https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-ultrasharp-40-curved-thunderbolt-hub-monitor-u4025qw/apd/210-bmdv/monitors-monitor-accessories) the U4025QW seems to be a good balance of size and pixel density. However, it is a little old- do I wait for a new version of this to be released? [https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-ultrasharp-52-thunderbolt-hub-monitor-u5226kw/apd/210-btfw/monitors-monitor-accessories](https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-ultrasharp-52-thunderbolt-hub-monitor-u5226kw/apd/210-btfw/monitors-monitor-accessories) U5226KW - Size is insane, maybe even too big, PPI is lower but I guess it will be futher away. I am only familiar with Dell, I am not sure what other brands produce and if they are better. PLEASE HELP!
I’d probably recommend one of these three: * Dell S3425DW (34-inch display that meets your requirements) * LG 34WQ73A-B (not sure about power delivery for the Mac) * Samsung S65UA In my experience as a software developer, if you’re going to be screen sharing your code with your team members regularly, ultrawides can sometimes cause problems but there are ways around it. When it comes to coding, I really love ultrawides and I generally it's a good experience for most people. I've heard some people like the separate 2 monitor setups more and once they switched to UW they instantly went back so it comes down to personal preference imo. I also recommend using a window management app so it’s easier to organize your windows. Regarding using your laptop alongside the monitor, I’ve seen people do it, but generally, most people run their Macs in clamshell mode with the monitor. It can be done, but in most cases, I’ve heard of people keeping their browser open on the Mac and their music or Slack open on the monitor instead. If you get a flat ultrawide monitor, you’re mostly going to be staring at the middle. Most people don’t end up using the entire screen, which is why they often put things like music or Slack off to the side. My go-to setup is code in the middle, music to the left, and Discord or Slack to the right, with the browser open in the middle on my Mac. Most of the time, however, I just run my Mac in clamshell mode and have a browser and code editor in the center, and then whatever else on the far right. Like I mentioned before, when you use a really big ultrawide, most of the time you’ll end up looking in one general area and not really utilizing the rest of the screen.
Just got https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-34-plus-usb-c-curved-monitor-s3425dw/ for just over $400 canadian over black friday and it’s looking great with our mac mini
