I work during the day and game during the night on a LG 45" 5k2k. Whilst its good for productivity, the curve is honestly annoying for it and if I wasn't gaming, would drop to the Dell 40" 5k2k IPS.
Hey, I'll chip in since I'm in the same boat, I can also grab U4021QW for $600 in perfect condition and warranty and I've been eyeing U4021QW - these can be had for around $900 if you get lucky. U4021QM is 60Hz, both HDMI outputs can only do 30Hz so you need to use USB-C and/or DP. U4025Q is 120Hz and there was a recent firmware update that addresses some MAC issues. I'm personally rocking AW3821DW and U3818DW. I do enjoy playing games here and there but I see no difference 60Hz vs 144Hz when it comes to productivity. I may grab U4021Qw just to check out since the price is so good. It's up to you how much you want to spend. HTH.

The Dell 40” IPS 5k2k is an end game office monitor setup, so if LG’s quality is good and QC is good, you’re more right than you think.
For me who plays games like Europa Universalis when not editing my photography hobby thats why Dell is king. On top of all that it’s nice to be able to have my large excel sheets fully visible without having to put on my readers because the text is too small. It just fit everything for me. The key words are obviously “for me.”
The dell 5k2k 40” or the 6k 52” will do you wonders. Beautiful text clarity, color accuracy, and dell monitors are usually tanks.
Yes , i recommend the DELL 40" ( 5k x 2k ) IPS !
I’ve had two of the U4021 versions for 3.5 years now. They are near perfect productivity monitors, and I imagine the U4025 is even better.
Are you a Mac user? I would love to know what the MacOs scaling options are. I currently use stacked Dell U4021QWs. I’m also curious about your impressions regarding 140ppi vs. 129ppi. So please report back on Thursday!
Do you stack them? I’ve stacked the 40” Dells for about 5 years now. I love them, but have been considering an upgrade and this new 52” panel might fit the bill.
I had the 4021 before the 4025. Couldnt tell the difference tbh (yes, one is 60Hz the other is 120Hz, still couldnt tell them apart).
5120x2160 (Dell) and 5090 here With DLSS and RT Medium (I think?) I get around 80 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 and less in STALKER2 (RDR2 does better, above 100). So yeah, I expect to be limited in future and more demanding titles. EDIT: dont get me wrong I have no regrets, my primary use is productivity and 5k2k is a great resolution. If I was primarily a gamer I would stick to a lower resolution for now.
I have the Dell 40” 5k2k and I think the size is perfect. Maybe - tad larger (42”) would be perfect with minimal curve. I really wanted to like the 45” from lg but the curve is too much.
I think for casual play it’s awesome. But if you’re playing BF6 competitively you have way too much eyeball movement to spot things in the peripheral due to the large size. I play bf6 casually on my 40” and it’s borderline too big if I want to be able to scan for all the campers without having my eyes go crazy. For something like MHW sure the bigger screen will be awesome. I guess this is why some comp gamers stick with smaller screens and 16:9.
You guys are nuts. That is a huge screen and I think there is a point of diminishing returns where so much real estate will actually physically “hurt” you. As in a lot of neck turning. A lot of eyeball movement/stress. I had a 43” 16:9 Dell and felt like it was already way too much physical real estate. I moved to a 40” 21:9 and feel like this is a good balance. Maybe a 43” 21:9 might be perfect but nothing bigger. That said if you enjoy moving your head around a lot then go for the big boy.
I hear you. I got my Dell for 990$ for Black Friday which was amazing since street prices are 1400$. It was an impulse buy, but I think I made a great decision. It’s 120 hz vs 60. The DPi is better. And the vertical physical height is just right (maybe one more inch would be ideal). The 43” was too high and I found myself always dragging my windows toward the middle and never using the outer 25% of the screen. As for commited to using it. That’s what I did with my 43” as well. And I’m actually not happy I did that. I wish I would have switched to a diff monitor earlier. If you move your 49” back you’re essentially losing real estate because you’ll likely need to up the DPI to see the same content but then you’ll have less canvas space to have content. But good luck. Sounds like a nice problem to have.
I have the dell40”. I use it 50/50 for gaming and productivity it works good. I was thinking of the 45” 5k2k as well but I would miss out on the kvm (I use my gaming p + work laptop). And the curve is intense. For gaming only it would probably work great. Here’s a comparison for size. Dell on left lg on right. https://i.postimg.cc/3RyDK1N6/IMG-9151.jpg
I have my 800r for gaming on the same desk as my 2500r. Have never wanted to bend either. If anything, I'd want a bigger curve on the 2500r Dell 😅
Thank you for the comment on the curve. I swear to god half the forum won't shut up about it. When actually using it, I don't even think about it. It sits next to my 2500r Dell I don't even notice switching back and forth really.
