Disclaimer: I'm definitely a "victim" of the "IPS is far superior" notion that is/was the rule-of-thumb. VA could actually be pretty good nowadays, but I don't really have access to any in person so I'm definitely biased against spending money on a VA panel. I had the same problem when my Gigabyte M34WQ died, just to realize that it's evidently discontinued and couldn't find anything else. I ended up with an OLED, the AW3425DW. My wallet was not happy. I must say though, I don't notice any fringing unless I'm \~20cm away from the monitor, specifically looking for it. The only reason I know what that is is because other people talk about it. I see no issue at my normal distance. You could probably try visiting a store and actually looking at one. It might not be an issue for you neither. I'm a full time dev, so I just removed the taskbar from that monitor specifically to lower any chances of that burning in. > Why do you think there's been a slowdown (perceived maybe) of IPS panel releases? Buyers don't care, I guess. I suppose those looking for ultrawides fall into two categories: productivity, who don't really care that much for the benefits of IPS, especially when cost is factored in, and gamers, who are going OLED. It could also be that VA panels have improved a lot to where most won't even really notice the difference that much.
Have this exact request and it's infuriating. All recommendations are just discontinued stuff that's no longer available as of about mid this year. The few ultrawide IPSes that remain all have either insufficient refresh rates/response times and/or ghosting issues. Hell I've seen recommendations on here for monitors like the LG 34GN850-B or Gigabyte M34WQ within the last 30 days, despite the fact that none of them are available anymore.
All discontinued, out of support and no longer available through regular vendors.
I cant't speak on the productivity side but i used to have a gigabyte m34wq that was flat ips panel. I thought games looked pretty good on it. It died and I upgraded to a AW3425DW curved oled panel. I noticed a difference right away, especially with dark scenes or blacks. It really doesnt compare. One thing i will caution is oled flicker is really rough on mine. Only way to get rid of it is either to turn off VRR or have consistent locked frame rate and frame time. It was very noticeable to me coming from my old monitor that never had it.
[https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/M34WQ](https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/M34WQ) Gigabyte M34WQ. Best IPS monitor I ever owned. Flat, great picture, good feature set.
I have this one and working/gaming at the same time with KVM is key
that budget is tough for 4k ultrawide over 45 inches - those usually run $1200+. the color issues youre seeing on the lg are probably calibration more than panel quality. grab a spyder or color munki to calibrate your current monitor first. for an upgrade, look at the gigabyte m34wq (34 inch 4k 144hz) around $500 or save for the dell u4025qw. honestly stacking a 34 above your 34 might be neck strain city. i tried two 32s stacked and ended up side by side instead.
Coming from the Omen 27i, I’d be careful with cheap VA ultrawides, tbh, because the size upgrade can come with worse motion and dark smearing. I made that mistake once and the bigger screen felt cool for a week, then the blur bothered me every session. The [LG 34GP83A-B](https://featherab.com/shopit?q=LG%2B34GP83A-B%2B34%2Binch%2Bultrawide%2Bmonitor) is still a good fit for what you described because it keeps the IPS motion feel and 3440x1440 is a natural sim racing upgrade. If the price feels bad, also check the Gigabyte M34WQ, though it is flat rather than curved. I’d prioritize panel behavior over curve, because bad motion is more noticeable than a missing curve once you are driving.
