Hey i've been using ultrawide monitors for some time now, currently rocking Gigabyte MO34WQC2 OLED monitor which is 3440x1440 at 240Hz, and i love the immersion. I have been debating going back to 16:9 aspect ratio (for FPS games like Tarkov or maybe in-general compatibility with older games i like to play, like old Stalker series or other), but I am unsure if it would make sense to buy this Asus ROG dual-mode monitor, because of PPI numbers (for example Tarkov is a heavy game, 4K with 9800X3D/5070Ti is very sweaty, so I'd have to go either 1080p or 1440p but with a 31.5" screen thats a pretty low pixel density). 1. (Gigabyte Ultrawide) 3440x1440 at 34" = 109.68PPI currently 2. (Asus ROG) 3840x2160 at 31.5" = 139.87PPI (if you can run the game at 120fps+, I'd have to bother upgrading to a 5080 or even 5090 and thats a no-go with today's prices) 3. (Asus ROG) 2560x1440 at 31.5" = 93.24PPI (already worse than the Ultrawide) 4. (Asus ROG) 1920x1080 480Hz Mode at 31.5" = 69.93PPI which is pretty much horrible and only for sweaty Counter-Strike gamers Is this really worth trying with 9800X3D/5070Ti? I could consider some 27" 1440p360Hz but thats not going to be any upgrade so its kind of pointless thing to do.

I recommend the Gigabyte MO34WQC2. I've this monitor right now and use it for my day job as a Software Engineer, and then for gaming/watching movies in the evening. The text clarity is perfectly fine for me, the built-in KVM switch works great, it's 240hz, and the QD-OLED screen is beautiful. There's always a risk with burn-ins, but there's a 3-year warranty for that. I expect to be able to use this monitor for at least 4 - 5 years.

the 3440x1440 will be more performant across majority of games compared to the 4K also, ultrawide just has a level of immersion that even a 32 inch 4K monitor cannot replicate with 4K you'll lose anywhere from 30 to 50% of your in-game FPS depending on your setup... you're essentially trading FPS for more pixels/sharper image

by setting 1440p as the output resolution, you are essentially stretching the picture to fit into a 4K canvas there absolutely is some loss in overall sharpness and clarity when doing this... how noticeable it is depends on the monitor, the game, the scaling quality, the size of the panel, and how far you sit from the screen. if you move your head closer to the screen and compare the two resolutions, you'll notice that the 1440p output is more blurry and not as sharp thats basically like trying to upscale an image in photoshop just by expanding it... the more you stretch, the blurrier it gets https://preview.redd.it/34ja0nda3ppg1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=099f53cb367caba3c60de7f743f287031b926611

You’re only downscaling if the image starts at a higher resolution first and then gets reduced. If the game or desktop is actually set to 2560×1440 output on a 3840×2160 display, the panel is receiving a lower-resolution image and then scaling it up to **fill the 4K screen**. **Render 4K -> display at 1440p** = downscaling **Output 1440p -> fill a 4K panel** = upscaling That’s why people say native 1440p on a 4K monitor can look softer. The monitor or GPU has to interpolate 1440p across more physical pixels, and **1440p does not scale evenly into 4K.** Downscaling can improve image quality when you render above the display resolution first, but that is a different scenario from just selecting 1440p output on a 4K monitor.

Just swapped VA UW (bougth in 2020) for an OLED UW (mo34wqc2). Color and motion quality is clearly in favor of the OLED (and no smearing like VA). All panels 34 should be samsung gen 1 or gen 1,5 I guess. I chose Gigabyte for 3 years warranty, Burn-in included, and good price. I/O and design are poor though.

Hello everyone, I got my PG34WCDN yesterday and thought I provide some early impressions for those, who are on the fence to order one as well. Here are some points I oberserved in my short period of time I got this monitor. * Build quality: The build quality is absolutely excellent. No issues whatsoever. * Display: The display is absolutely gorgeous. It is noticably brighter than my previous MO34WQC2 and PG27UCDM. I thought by going from 240 Hz to 360 Hz I wouldn't notice the difference, but I did and while it isn't as going from 60 Hz to 120 Hz the response on the desktop and in games, when they reach the full 360 FPS on it you can notice it. * HDR: In HDR mode it does get so bright, that I have to squeeze my eyes when I get flashbanged, when playing in a darker room. I didn't needed to do this with my previous monitors. I am using the recommended settings from TFTCentral for SDR and HDR in their review of the PG34WCDN. * Blackshield: The new Blackshield treatment is a welcome improvement over previous QD-OLED monitors as those turned purple in a brighter room or when light hit the display. The new Blackshield solves this and I can confidently say that the PG34WCDN is just as black in a bright room as my LG OLED TV. * Text: Text looks really good. The fringing and fuzzy text is finally gone. While it isn't as sharp as my PG27UCDM, which is understandable as that display has 166 PPI, while this one has 109 PPI it is noticeably better than any QD-OLED or WOLED monitors with similar PPI. * Eyestrain: I got no eyestrain using this monitor as before I had some cases of eyestrain when I got my previous QD-OLED monitors. * Connectivity: It features 1 x 3,5mm audio jack, 3 x USB ports, 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports, 1 x USB-C with 90W PD, 1 x DP 2.1 80 Gbps port. It does have DSC, that can be disabled by the user, so users with DP 2.1 GPUs can utilize this monitor to it's fullest without relying on DSC and its quirks. * Neo Proximity Sensor: The sensor is sill a bit wonky in detecting the user in front of it. Sometimes it works, sometimes the display was still on when I returned back. It is still a hit and miss. Hopefully this will improve over time. * Stand: I don't like the stand, as it takes way too much space, but this was no concern to me as I generally mount my displays on an arm. * Packaging: It's good and well protected inside the box. Plenty of accessories came with it. * Price: It is very expensive, but will probably go down over time. Conclusion: Is the PG34WCDN worth it? Absolutely if you value these improvements I mentioned in my post. Especially if you also use your monitor to work on it as well. The new RGB stripe with no fringing and fuzzy text alone makes this a good buy. If you only use your monitor to play and watch movies and otherwise have a dedicated work monitor, then less so. Your current QD-OLED/WOLED monitor is more than enough for that task. This will probably be my "endgame" monitor until 34 inch 5K2K displays are released. I am aware that LG is gonna release their 39 inch 5K2K very soon with a more subtile curve, however the dealbreakers for me on LG monitors are that they are actively cooled and their matte display. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I had two AW3423DW when they launched and both had loud fans. My PC is silent even under gaming, so especially when you are not gaming the monitor was the loudest part of the setup. Same goes for the LG 5K2K I briefly had before returning it. As time goes by dust accumulates and then fan have to work more harder. If it would be at least user serviceable you could replace it with a better fan. Unfortunately they aren’t, so for me any active cooled monitor is out of the question no matter how good it is. AFAIK only Dell and LG have active cooled monitors the rest are all passive.

I just got the Gigabyte MO34WQC last week and returned it immediately. I'm a software engineer and the text was horrible to look at. More than burn in concerns, the text fringing is something I thought was overblown on the internet, and that it would be fine - it wasn't. I'd say eliminate OLED from your consideration if you plan to look at text on anything around 110ppi (1440p on 34" utrawide). For the text fringing to not be noticeable and not strain your eyes, it needs to be much much higher OLED to be viable for daily text usage.

The alienware aw3425dw was released last month. It has an 240 hz refresh rate instead of 175 and goes for 799 dollar The Gigabyte MO34WOCQ2 and the MSI 341CQPX have the same panel as the alienware i mentioned. If i were you i would get the cheapest one of those three. And if you want 49 inches then the samsung g93sc(glossy) or the philips 49M2C8900(semi-gloss). These two also have the same panel and are both 1440p,240hz. Samsung also has a smart version (95 instead of 93) or oled (sd) instead of sc, but i would get non smart, qd oled.
