I've been using ultrawide monitors for 10 years now - 2015: Samsung S34E790C 3440x1440 60Hz, VA panel - 2019: LG 34GK950F-B 3440x1440 144Hz, IPS panel - 2024: LG 38WN95CP-W 3840x1600 144Hz, IPS panel and I really like the productivity gains I got with them. On my current monitor a browser window and IDE window can easily fit side-by-side.
This is the one I'm using as well. No complaints aside from the usual IPS glow and backlight bleed. Great colors and responsiveness. For around 500€ it's a very good deal IMHO. Before that I had the 34GK950F (which I unfortunately broke) which cost around 1100€ and the 34GN850 feels like the same monitor with a much better responsiveness and less motion blur.
This was a problem I faced for a while, coming off an IPS display and looking to make an upgrade, with every option out there being OLED or VA, at least in the way of ultrawides. I can't stand the ghosting effect of VAs, even on good VAs it still tends to annoy me a lot, and the OLED burn-in question was something I always had in mind, including vertical banding. Upgraded up from the 34GP83A actually, and I purchased that thing for $500 on sale. I assume they just opted to discontinue it, and haven't given it a sufficient IPS replacement. I've since upgraded to an OLED though, after briefly trying one. Motion clarity, perfect viewing angles, acceptable brightness, great colors. I have the 491CQPX, and while my burn-in concerns aren't entirely quelled, you ideally want to pick up an OLED which explicitly features burn-in coverage, mine covers it for 3 years which I'd say is perfectly fine. If the display degrades, it gets replaced, doesn't compromise too much on the longevity just as long as I get it covered, and keep the box around to ship it in. Most OLEDs feature measures to deter burn-in, I've got most of them enabled just for the sake of it. As of now, good mini-LEDs are too expensive to be worth it, good VAs still have terrible viewing angles and some ghosting, OLEDs have okay text clarity, burn-in, but pretty much everything else is solid. Just take advantage of the warranty whenever you experience problems.
Yeah I'm in the same boat. Running an oldish 34in 85ppi 21:9, IPS 144Hz LG. Bumping up to 39in 142ppi 5k2k, oled 165Hz would be a huge upgrade. Those retinal displays are really really tempting though for the beautiful ppi. But tbh I don't know how well those crazy resolutions would even perform in games. Your desktop background would look heavenly, but most game engines would probably grind to a stop. Not to mention the lack of ultrawide.
I really love my 34 in lg curved ultra wide it’s perfect for truck sim. https://preview.redd.it/spiqeiue0xrf1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b9757c46ad2f231cd0da193bd1e7d8e114b084e It’s also good for battle field I played the beta and it was really nice.
Yeah it’s only 165hz but it’s perfect for my 3080 setup.
I went with a 34 1440p over the 32 4k. I had this exact dilemma and got the 32 4k first 240hz. My graphic card was 4090 and it looked great but fps was under 100 all the time. Switched to the 1440p 34 240hz and absolute love the switch. I get like 160hz+ and it’s so smooth and beautiful when playing cod and Diablo
Yeah, 34” LG UW 1440p over HDMI here and no complaints either.
Hi guys, I just upgraded to an LG 34" 3440x1440 and while I like the format, I just can't deal with the pixel density. I'm on Retina Displays since the 2012 Macbook came out and just can't go back. Hence, I'm gonna return the monitor and get another one. I have access to Chinese brands and there are basically two options: 40" 5120x2160 LG Nano IPS 120Hz 27" 5120x2880 LG IPS 60Hz (600 USD) 32" 6144x3456 LG IPS 60Hz (1000USD - a bit too much for CN gamble) I cant decide between 27 and 40 - I kinda like the widescreen format, but not sure if the the pixel density of the 40 will be good enough? Anyone has experience with a 40" 5k, and can share if they are happy with Pixel density? https://preview.redd.it/w1k5moki26gf1.jpg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf3a3989efbefef96e21afcec98ad94dac03b04f https://preview.redd.it/q1y6t2kj26gf1.jpg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9fcc5c352e1d403eb9610089548a4b99acf39e5
