Been rocking a 3440x1440 34-inch curved, ultra-wide QHD IPS panel with 100Hz since 2016 . 21:9 master race boii
Thank you! I actually bought the same monitor! So far so good. Love the higher resolution and the big screen. My only issue is it sometimes just goes out when I connect it with my work laptop (via USB-C) not sure if it was with the display or with the laptop. I don't think there were any problems when I connect it with my desktop PC though (via DP). So it might be the laptop having a hard time handling the display.
The speakers are great. I would recommend it. My only problem with it now is its USB-C PD connection. But it might not be the monitor's problem. It might be the laptop's....
No worries! Thanks for the heads up, but yes I have already bought the monitor. I think the USB C PD is fine, I think the problem is with the laptop (lenovo thinkpad). I tried it with my other devices (personal laptop and desktop) and there are no problems when I connect the monitor with those. I also googled it and it seems to be a problem with Lenovo... I can't really do more tinkering with it as it is my work laptop, but might be good to note that the disconnecting issue is happening less often now (still happens though).
I bought the LG 34U650A-B and have been using it for 2 weeks now. I cannot evaluate this with your parameters. I only use it for work and have been exploring the possibilities of KVM and PBP with multiple sources (it seems fiddly and the LG software feels clunky). The speakers are unexpectedly great. In fact, I have been using them instead of the built-in speakers on my MBP. No issues with color or contrast but these can be really subjective. I used to be on a 2k Philips business monitor of 27 inch which was also very good and the LG doesn't seem vastly different from that in terms of color and contrast. Coming from 16:9 as well, the ultra-wide fits a workspace better in my opinion.
You have exactly 1 IPS option under $550: https://www.centrecom.com.au/lg-34u650a-b-34-wqhd-ips-100hz-curved-monitor Grabbing one of these when they go on discount every few months is something to consider: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/alienware-aw3425dwm Unfortunately IPS ultrawide development stopped as soon as OLED became new top dog. So we got 5 year old VA panels and brand new OLEDs and that's it, if you need one ASAP then you're stuck with whats readily available, and all the VA panel ones are basically the same. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#r=344001440&X=0,75222&sort=price&page=1
I have been looking at the same 34" 1440p 100Hz+ IPS display with USB-C PD at 90w+ criteria. Main use would be software development for a new MiniPC I purchased recently. Not sure if this helps you but noticed just before seeing this post the monitor is reduced to £379 on Amazon today. LG UltraWide Monitor 34U650A-B, Curved UWQHD 1440p IPS, 34 inch, 100Hz, 5ms GtG, HDR10, Speakers, HDMI, DP, USB-C (96W PD), Black
Aplogies u/mugglearchitect I thought it was someone else that posted "I actually bought the same monitor! So far so good" comment above and now realise it was you after making my post. Did you figure out the use with USB-C PD connection?
I really love my 34 in lg curved ultra wide it’s perfect for truck sim. https://preview.redd.it/spiqeiue0xrf1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b9757c46ad2f231cd0da193bd1e7d8e114b084e It’s also good for battle field I played the beta and it was really nice.
Yeah it’s only 165hz but it’s perfect for my 3080 setup.
I went with a 34 1440p over the 32 4k. I had this exact dilemma and got the 32 4k first 240hz. My graphic card was 4090 and it looked great but fps was under 100 all the time. Switched to the 1440p 34 240hz and absolute love the switch. I get like 160hz+ and it’s so smooth and beautiful when playing cod and Diablo
Yeah, 34” LG UW 1440p over HDMI here and no complaints either.
