it's not a review but a sponsored ad. not a single downside is reported. this panel is still suffering from QD-OLED dimming behavior - in peak 1300 mode it will be dim in high APL scenes and in True Black 500 mode it will top at 500 nits. EOTF boost is present but is a compromise (see TFT central review for that). the black levels in bright room are still much inferior to the WOLEDs (see Monitors Unboxed review). VRR flickering is still not solved and Anti Flicker features are still a crutches that will turn off parts of the VRR range completely it is a great monitor and I will probably buy it, but not without downsides. this review is of low value

I'm getting the Asus model regardless of price. I have been using the XG34WCDG and I absolutely love it. I still have some time before my return period is up but will be taking advantage of that and getting the PG34WCDN as soon as I'm able to.

I really did not like the 3425DW despite loving the 3423DWF. Maybe I got a faulty unit but I found its brightness and HDR capabilities lacking in comparison to its predecessor. That said, if you’re getting a monitor now, I would HIGHLY encourage you wait a few months for the new Gen 5 QD OLEDs if you want a 34” 3440x1440p or wait a little longer for the 39” WOLED 5K2K from LG. Personally, I’ll be picking up the Asu PG34WCDN as I love the current asu ultrawide QD OLED panel I have and this one just cranks it up across the board (newer panel leading to better brightness and colors, blackshield film providing extra hardness of the coating, DP 2.1, 360hz). I am curious to see what the LG 39” 5K2K will be like but I just couldn’t get myself to like their 2025 model because I hated the matte coating and this is looking to also be matte, albeit a higher quality version from the previews.

Yeah it looks for movement. So if you’re still it’ll think you’re not around and turns off. You gotta wave your hand or something every so often. I’ve turned it off on mine because it got really annoying for the screen to go black in the middle of gaming.

I actually have tried both formats you’ve considered and the 34” 3440x1440 format as well with a 5090. I have the 540 Hz PG27AQWP-W, the 4K 240 Hz PG32UCDM and the 165 Hz Alienware 3432DWF and I can share a few thoughts after using them all. The 540 Hz display is incredible for competitive shooters, bar none. I did not expect there would be any meaningful difference switching from 4K 240, but it was immediately clear how crystal crisp the 540 Hz is in Valorant to me personally. When flicking and panning on the 4K 240 there is a bit of blurriness that is just not there on the 540 Hz panel. It handles motion by far the best out of any monitor I’ve used and although it didn’t really make me a better player by any means, it certainly was an upgrade in gaming experience for this type of game. The 4K 32” 240 Hz format is the best all arounder, but as others have pointed out even on a 5090 I find it a struggle at times. The overall image quality is of course sharper and text is sharper, but in terms of black levels and colours I genuinely find the PG27AQWP-W superior because of the TrueBlack Glossy coating. It does indeed boost perceived black levels for me and it’s very obvious in games like Dead Space. The PG32UCDM3 would be a strong contender here with its BlackShield coating. My Alienware is only 165 Hz given it’s a first generation OLED, but even for that the immersion and general use experience on desktop is the best with its ultrawide format. The colours, refresh rate and all that are noticeably worse than both of my other newer OLEDs, but playing in 21:9 is truly a treat and working on it is amazing compared to 16:9. Like a few others have pointed out, and based on what’s available today/upcoming, and your varied usage scenario the PG34WCDN I believe will be your best bet, followed by the PG32UCDM3 and then the PG27AQWP-W. The new ultrawide has RGB Stripe for great text clarity, 21:9 native but supports aspect ratio control to 16:9 for competitive games, has 360 Hz which is plenty, BlackShield coating which boosts perceived black levels and helps with the tinting issue of QD-OLEDs and no DSC, basically checking every single box you could ask for while also being incredible for productivity with its improved subpixel layout and ultrawide format. The PG32UCDM3 would be a good option as well, 4K really is darn crisp and not having to deal with black bars in some games with 21:9 is nice. Since you don’t exclusively play competitive games, I placed the PG27AQWP-W last in your case because that monitor really was made for competitive shooters. While it is excellent in other games as well, I still put story-rich games on my 4K monitor over it and if I have to do some work, I work on the 4K panel or ultrawide. Its only win is in Valorant/CS2/OW and the such but doesn’t really win over the other formats otherwise. If you really do want every last bit of advantage possible though in your Overwatch games, then yeah the PG27AQWP-W is the current ultimate 27” 1440p display for that purpose alone.

This is a review of the 5th Gen QD-OLED panel as featured on the new [ASUS ROG Swift PG32WCDN](https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/asus-rog-swift-pg34wcdn-unveiled-with-34-360hz-5th-gen-qd-oled-panel) and [MSI MPG 341CQR X36](https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/msi-announce-the-mpg-341cqr-x36-with-34-ultrawide-360hz-5th-gen-qd-oled-panel). Here's the summary from the video along with some extra info from [TFTCentral](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2nHKDMYifg) [reviews](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAOMAExqX6o) and [HDTVTest new video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN9P2TaU0vg): - The 2026 QD-OLED panels used on the ultrawide monitors now feature the V-Stripe ([a.k.a. "True RGB"](https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/samsung-display-announce-mass-production-of-new-34-qd-oled-panel-with-v-stripe-sub-pixel-layout)) sub-pixel layout. Text quality is "effectively identical to LCDs of the same pixel density", by far the biggest upgrade from these new panels. As described by Tim, there's no "green and pink fringing at the top and bottom of text edges" from older QD-OLED panels, and there's also no "horizontal shadowing" from W-OLED's "RWBG & RGWB pixel layouts". [The whole section on the sub-pixel layout is really worth watching](https://youtu.be/c90FLTWQiSY?si=-UfhjovdEhBqqrlW&t=140). - [The screen coating doesn't raise black levels as much as 1st and 2nd generation QD-OLED panels](https://youtu.be/c90FLTWQiSY?si=dZ3ENqLgtAPe-kOv&t=325), but the issue still persists. A 4th Gen Tandem WOLED panel with a "TrueBlack" screen coating handle black raise the best, although the coating on those panels is far glossier than the one found on QD-OLED. Tim prefered the coating of 5th QD-OLED over the "True Black" 4th Gen Tandem WOLED. EDIT: [TFTCentral found an 11% improvement on contrast levels as the screen reflects more light.](https://youtu.be/UAOMAExqX6o?si=TvJe_5JTs7hFCMyM&t=318) WOLED panels (with matte AG coating or "TrueBlack" glossy coating) still handle black raise better than their QD-OLED counterparts. - HDR brightness values with their APL (Window) values, [based on Tim's testing](https://youtu.be/c90FLTWQiSY?si=_Nqum6IIUDaYDxxO&t=732): "Around 300nits" at 100%, "Around 520nits" at 10%, "Around 1300nits" at 2%. SDR brightness can go up to 307 nits. - 5th-Gen QD-OLED 3440x1440 panels now feature a 360Hz refresh rate. Tim highlighted the better compatibility with 4x DLSS Multi Frame Generation than with an older 175Hz panel. - Samsung Display's aggresive ABL is still present on these new panels, but both ASUS and MSI have added some hacks (a.k.a. an "EOTF boost" mode) in their OSDs to try to work around the aggresive ABL. Monitors Unboxed will touch on this in the future, but [HDTVTest already has a more in depth explanation on how this "EOTF boost" was implemented on the MSI monitor's OSD (the rest of his video is also pretty good and highlights a few bugs on MSI's HDR implementation)](https://youtu.be/tN9P2TaU0vg?si=kpLyFN5j0rB4_SCt&t=391). - From the TFTCentral articles that I shared at the beginning, both monitors share the same Semi-Glossy coating (despite the marketing name used by ASUS and MSI), an 1800R curve, improved panel hardness from 2H to 3H, VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certification, "factory calibrated Delta<2 accuracy", 2x HDMI 2.1 ports and a USB-C Type C port with DP Alt Mode and 90W of Power Delivery. The MSI monitor features a single DisplayPort 2.1, UHBR13.5-tier port ([the monitor requires DSC to run at 360Hz, HDR at 3440x1440, as reported by HDTVTest](https://youtu.be/tN9P2TaU0vg?si=DHmZo36I5-YD0JXN&t=727)) with an MSRP of $1,099. The ASUS features a single DisplayPort 2.1, UHBR20-tier port with no announced MSRP. - HDTVTest also teased the announcement of an "even higher tier QD-OLED monitor" from MSI right at the end of his video. I wonder if we're getting a new 4K or even a 5K2K monitor to compete with LG's most recent monitors! EDIT: [MSI announced a new QD-OLED monitor in their MEG series](https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/msi-introduces-the-meg-x-34-qd-oled-monitor-with-built-in-a-i-features). The panel is the same but this one it's an "AI" monitor... Overall, I'm really glad that text fringing seems to be solved on both 5th Gen QD-OLED and [4th Gen Tandem WOLED RGB-Stripe monitors](https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/lg-display-announce-a-new-27-4k-oled-panel-with-rgb-stripe-layout). However, unlike the RGB-Stripe Tandem WOLED which have brightness levels comparable to 1st Gen QD-OLED (1000nits@2% APL, 500nits@10% APL, 250nits@100% APL), 5th Gen QD-OLED will be far brighter while having a (mostly) similar text quality, from the info that we have so far. For those interested on more monitor reviews that are not from the usual sources (Monitors Unboxed, TFT Central, HDTVTest), you can wait for a future review from chinese reviewer [小雪人评测](https://www.youtube.com/@%E5%B0%8F%E9%9B%AA%E4%BA%BA%E8%AF%84%E6%B5%8B/videos) to check how text-fringing shows up on more complex chinese characters as well as Stroboscopic Visibility Measure (SVM) testing and a teardown of the monitors.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's not that all movies and TV Series are graded to the limited dynamic range of a projector, it's just that some of the most hardcore and/or avant-garde movie directors tend to favor the more limited dynamic range of a projector that is used on a movie theater or in an enthusiast grade home theater setup over the far wider dynamic range that it's present on most consumer displays (including tablets and smartphones). For comparison, having so many mobile devices of many different price ranges come equipped with an OLED screen these days and having phones like the iPhone record in HDR by default really helps to push the adoption of the format in other mediums such as social media content. And even then, not all social media handles HDR video the same way, with stuff like YouTube taking an entire week to process a HDR video lol.

I can second this as a 5090 owner. But how about a UWQHD monitor, OP? This way you get more screen real estate whilst even with the ~35% more pixels it is lighter than 4k. There is a new QD-OLED panel in 3440x1440 that has RGB Subpixel layout and 360hz. I have the msi monitor with this panel and I love it. The ultrawide is perfect for story games (the HDR is great too) while the 360hz allows for fast competitive games (i play lots of cs2)

That Asus monitor has the exact same panel as my msi. I had a 1440p (16:9) 360hz QD Oled before but I wanted „more“. The ultrawide really is the first monitor I own where it doesnt feel like a compromise in any way.

**ASUS ROG SWIFT PG34WCDN REVIEW** PG34WCDN Video Review: [*https://youtu.be/QVT5Ktky\_2g*](https://youtu.be/QVT5Ktky_2g) PS: I was sent this sample unit by ASUS ROG and have been testing it extensively for about three weeks. **TL;DR: PG34WCDN Review** **Aesthetics:** 9/10 **True Black Glossy QD-OLED Panel (Black Shield + RGB Stripe):** 10/10 **Text Clarity:** 9.3/10 **Motion Clarity (360Hz Ultrawide):** 10/10 **Overall Gaming Experience:** 10/10   **My PC Specs:** GPU: ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX™ 5090 OC Edition CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 16-Core Processor RAM: CORSAIR Dominator Titanium RGB DDR5 RAM 96GB STORAGE: SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 4TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280   **My Background** I work in IT and I’m also a content creator. I use my PC for productivity work (Excel, Word, IT software), edit my own videos in Adobe Premiere, and play a large variety of games. I have over 2,500 hours in Overwatch and peaked at high Masters. I’ve been using ultrawides since 2016 starting with the X34 Predator and for the last 10 years I’ve been waiting for *a* monitor like this to finally exist. The PG34WCDN feels like the culmination of everything Ultrawide gaming has been building toward and this one is crisper, faster and smoother than ever.   **Aesthetics & Build Quality** The PG34WCDN continues the traditional ROG sci-fi design language and once again has the spider leg stand that is quite unpopular. To be very honest this is my one and only grievance with the display itself and I have taken the liberty of speaking to an Asus about the public opinion on the stand. Also, because it’s a ultrawide it does take up more room than the traditional 16:9 one. Other than that, I absolutely love the design even the Asus Chin lol.   **34” 3440x1440 360Hz QD-OLED Experience** Strictly speaking about gaming on a QD-OLED ultrawide at 360hz its pretty damn glorious. I legitimately believe that some games could not look or play any better on any other display currently available on the market. Doom eternal in particular looks unbelievable on a screen with the refresh rate, brightness and colors so high and well-tuned. When playing games like Doom Eternal, Doom Dark Ages or even Housemarque ridiculously underrated shooter Returnal. You know immediately that you are experiencing something truly unique that you can’t find anywhere else. This monitor is the perfect blend of fast, immersive and a nice sprinkle of eye candy best described as “Immersively smooth eye candy” **True Black Glossy + Black Shield (NEW for 2026)** The new Asus Black shield film is an excellent addition to their QD-OLEDS, not only does it deepen perceived blacks which is not on the level of a true-black glossy but still very impressive nonetheless! It also improves contrast in brighter rooms making it so you don’t get that purple or red hue unless you shine a light directly onto the screen which never happens in a natural setting. Black shield also adds 2.5x improved scratch resistance, which is something QD-OLED monitors desperately needed for a long time. The real star of the show is the RGB Stripe subpixel layout though it looks so freaking good on this monitor. The first thing it improves is text clarity easily the best I’ve ever seen on an OLED monitor basically eliminating text fringing in its entirety. I have been told by the Asus Rep that the only monitor that does look better is the PG27UCDM and I would also assume PG27UCWM when that releases as well. But I haven’t seen either in person so I’ll take his word for it because they do have a PPI of 168 so it does make sense. The next thing I would like to highlight is the vast improvement on color reproduction. This point is very important because one of the strongest things a QD-OLED has over WOLED displays is more accurate and vibrant colors. RGB Stripe just makes the gap so much bigger with the combination of the increase in brightness and next gen QD-OLED tech you get a display that is so accurate and vibrant in color. That I would honestly put this on the same level strictly when it comes to color reproduction as my favorite display ever the SONY A95L this is an absolutely insane feat. And I would not have believed I’d be making this statement about a 360Hz Ultrawide monitor. Now the last thing the RGB Stripe subpixel layout improves on is picture quality. On Asus webpage for the monitor this is how it is described “The ROG Swift OLED PG34WCDN uses a revolutionary RGB Stripe Pixel OLED sub-pixel arrangement that redefines visual clarity.” This is a downright ridiculous understatement and before making this point. I will admit that the other features and improvements such as higher refresh, color, brightness and even improved black levels do play a part in perceiving the display this way. But with saying that as someone that has tested and used quite a bit of monitors this is the first 1440p display I’ve ever seen that could be mistaken as a 4K display. The image quality on this display in games like E33, RDR2, GOW Ragnarok, TLOU2, Returnal, Doom, The Witcher 3 Cyberpunk and so many more go toe to toe with the best displays I’ve ever seen. It still does look quite good on Youtube but it’s something you have to see in person to truly understand!   **Competitive Gaming** Now this is something I wanted to speak very briefly about because up until this point I didn’t think it was ideal to play competitive game on any ultrawide display prior to this one. Playing at 1080p with a dual mode on an OLED is just in my honest opinion not a fun experience whether it be in 21:9 or using aspect control to play in 16:9. Also a lot of ultrawides are way bigger than 34” making it extremely difficult to play at the highest level. But the really important thing that makes this monitor somewhat ideal to play competitive games like Overwatch is the amazingly high 360Hz refresh rate while being able to still play in 1440p. Playing Overwatch whether it be in 21:9 or 16:9 with the aspect control mode on this monitor is downright glorious. Obviously, it won’t be on the same level of same something like the PG27AQWP-W. But being a ultrawide and having the ability to look so good in so many case usages it’s so impressive that it can even come remotely close.   **ASUS Features** With a **0.03ms response time and 360Hz**, this monitor feels amazing in competitive games being in the 1% of refresh rate on monitors I had to continue pinching myself to remind myself it’s also a ultrawide. Just like any 360Hz+ display if I die in Overwatch, it’s because of my positioning or decision-making not the fault of the monitor. The combination of pixel response time, high refresh rate, and aspect ratio genuinely feels like a cheat code in high-FPS competitive games like Overwatch. Even though this isn’t a 540Hz panel like the PG27AQWP-W, 360Hz on an ultrawide OLED still feels absurdly responsive. You’re getting god-tier competitive GAMING with immersive 21:9 scale which is a 1 of 1 combo. You also get OLED Anti-Flicker technology, which helps stabilize brightness fluctuations which is very important on OLED panels when playing at high refresh rates. It makes the game not only feel very consistent but also less strain on the eyes. While ELMB (BFI) isn’t particularly necessary at 360Hz, ASUS still gives you strong motion tuning options for lower refresh rate content whether you are playing a more graphically demanding title or even a console game. The Proximity Sensor once again makes an appearance and it is just as impressive as ever. It automatically dims or if you choose totally powers off the panel when you step away which is huge step for OLED longevity. I really love how many features such as pixel shift and pixel refresh ASUS puts into its monitors because these displays are very expensive and anything that prevents or slows down burn in is a huge plus in my book. The PIP/PBP modes on the PG34WCDN are actually super useful on this monitor on a this ultrawide monitor. Being able to utilize two devices whether that be a PC, Console, Smart TV or more is a brilliant feature and even though it doesn’t give you the same screen real state as something like the Lg 45GX950A it is still very impressive. Just like stated earlier the Aspect Control Mode is especially awesome in competitive fps titles like Overwatch giving you the option to play in either 24” or 27” in addition to its amazing 21:9 mode. This monitor definitely has the best usage of aspect control I’ve ever seen on any monitor.    **Final Thoughts** As someone that started their ultrawide journey with the Acer X34 Predator in 2016 I truly can’t believe how far we have come. This monitor is a culmination of everything that has come before it and as a PC Gamer that not only appreciates a beautiful looking display when it comes to color, brightness, black levels and picture quality. But also, a ridiculously high refresh rate this monitor is literally a dream come true and I am so appreciative that I have been able to use it for almost a month now. I love my 16:9 displays my favorite of late have been the PG32UCDM Gen, XG32UCWMG and even the PG27AQW-P. But just like the experience the LG GX9 5K2K provides a ultrawide just gives you something different that you can’t get elsewhere. For 10 years I’ve been waiting for ultrawide to reach its true potential and this is the first one that has lived up to every crazy expectation I had. So, you’ve probably already figured out how much I love this monitor but with saying the third piece of technology I will be giving a 10/10 score will be going to the new Endgame Ultrawide monitor the PG34WCDN 😊   **Overall Score: 10/10 Ultrawide Perfection**

The 341CQR X36 costs 1770 usd, 😔 I bet the price will go down as more stores get it in stock. But for now the Asus make more sense
