i have the samsung one you mentioned and have loved it to death, i had a 27” asus 165z 1440p i used forever, then i upgraded to that G5 and have never looked back a single time, and i use the asus as my top monitor (stacked layout) and the g5 for productivity is amazing, im studying engineering so i lften have say a practice exam open, the textbook/ solutions on the other half using windows features to split the windows and i have plenty of space to see and read everything i need to, especially for say a programming assignment i can have th e requirements document open on 1 half and my IDE open on the other and again, full range of vision

Try the BetterDisplay app on your Mac (also agree with the Silkland 80Gbps USB-C to DisplayPort cable. Both made me optimize settings for my M1 Pro MacBook Pro. As I use a 34" Samsung G5 UW mostly for productivity, PPI was a concern. The PPI challenge has me looking at this LG monitor, but at 32 inches feels too small, but 224 PPI means sharp, MacBook Pro clarity. If they added a 40 inch, I'd likely make the jump. Ran to Best Buy to look at the 45GX950A-B and it was hard to leave without one (two setup on the floor, two in boxes). Price tag helped me leave, but still thinking about it. Tough to look at my 34' Odyssey G5 after that.

Thanks for finding this. Very interested in what PPI this statement ("the V-Stripe structure improves the clarity of text edges, making it ideal for users engaged in text-intensive tasks such as document editing, coding, or content creation") will mean for the new panels. Love my G55T, but the lower PPI difference from my work-issued MacBook Pro M4 is a challenge (I'm not allowed to install anything on the machine as it is a work machine, so no BetterDisplay options for me). Pricing will be interesting as the LG 32U990A-S with its 224 PPI IPS black panel has been becoming more tempting, despite the price.

I just bought the Sansui 34 UW for my kids, it arrives today so I can let you know. I will say my G5 Odyssey UW was horrible. The UFO test to look at ghosting was so bad that it left a trail about 2 inches on the screen. The only thing I can recommend is the Alienware 34" OLED (FreeSync one), every once in a while they go on sale for $500 and I have had a bunch of UW's over the years and this one is just unbeatable. The OLED is something else.

I’ve been using the G5 for quite a while now for both work and gaming, and I’ve never had any issues. It has really good specs for its price, tbh.

Yeah, a G5 that does 3440x1440 can go for as little as $200 as well.

Yeah, it’s literally just a tv in terms of gui. I think this is the one with the stupidly large remote as well.

I don’t know if I should get this at $150 or an oled monitor for $400. All while I can just get a big oled television for $500 in a few years. My 1440p monitor is good enough I suppose.

I at least know about burn in and how little of a problem it really is for oleds, I always let my monitor time out after 5mins and always power it off when im away for long periods of time, so doing the same for an oled shouldn’t be too different. As for ultrawides, I’ve seen a few, they’re not as hype or glorious as they seem but I don’t hate them. The only reason I’m thinking about an ultrawide is to get rid of my janky two monitor mess. Two completely different displays, main display looks at me but is on the right side of the desk while the left one is angled towards me. Then I have the problem of having to align them and wondering if one is straight or not, etc. I just don’t want to deal with that anymore and I plan to give my little brother the good 1440p display while finally moving on from the secondary 1080. I don’t need it, but it seems very convenient right about now at the low price.
