I have the same monitor and it was 780 usd from BestBuy a couple weeks ago. This thing is excellent
Isn’t there a g7 5k2k 40” Samsung? I think it’s 749 right now
I just ordered it, my 49 MSI is still in return period so we’ll see
Had it for a day and returned it. Got the MSI 491cqp 49 superultrawide but was curious about 5k2k. After unboxing the g75f I realized, after using oled for a week, I could never go back. Honestly, it’s such a big difference my eyes have a hard time adjusting when I go into the office. Even though it’s 5k2k it’s just hard to justify that price for a VA panel
Yeah i recently got the 40 inch G7 5k2k only for office work running of M1 Air. The extra screen and being able to open 4 excel sheets is amazing. I can do my work so much faster without having to switch between windows. PPI is the thing you need for office work. Other option is the Dell Ultrasharp but those are insanely expensive as well as LG 5k2k monitors.
Based on what i have heard, the alienware is a better option with better warranty. If you arr getting it solely for productivity, you wont feel too much of a upgrade going from dual 24" to a single 34" in terms of screen real estate. Plus you also need a high resolution to get the highest PPI possible for best text clarity. The 5k2k panels on the market are the go to for producivity such as the Dell Ultrasharp, LG 5k2k, Samsung G75F. I got the 40" G75F 5k2k recently for my office and it is amazing to open 4 excel sheets side by side. The extra screen is a big boost for my productivity.
If you are fine with 40 inches, there is the new Samsung G7 5k2k panel which is amazing for productivity. Should be good for gaming but i use it for work specifically in my office.
The G75F is 40" 5k2k and not an OLED making it the best choice for productivity tasks
I got it last week too. The G75F is at a crazy price for 5k2k which seemed to be fake at first. The other 5k2k are $1500+. I upgraded from a 27" 1080p monitor so it was a night and day difference. I used betterdisplay at first but ended up running at native 5k2k. The text clarity wasn't great when scaled to 3840×1620. Let me know how your experience has been.
Check out the G75K 40" 5k2k. It is the cheapest 5k2k you can get for $700. If you need more screen, then the G9 is the only option.
It's truly an underrated monitor. Im surprised why Samsung has priced it so low compared to other 5k2k panels like the Dell Ultrasharp. Im recommeding this monitor to anyone looking to get one for productivity as it ticks pretty much all boxes for office use. Its not really for gaming as its not OLED so the blacks aren't that great.
The Dell or LG if you can afford. The G75F for a more cheaper option but still ticks most boxes without breaking your wallet. Im using mine on a M1 Air and has been great. Color accuracy isn't the best due to being VA but at $700, a 5k2k is a pretty good deal
Also check the G75F 40" 5k2k monitor from Samsung. Im using it only for office work and has been great. Its a VA panel so colors are decent but the text clarity is amazing.
Using the G75F with my Mac and it has been amazing
I bought it last month mainly for work and it has been amazing with my M1 Air. There are a couple of other posts on this sub about the G75F so check those out. I was in the same boat as you. I wanted a decent priced 5k2k work monitor as I was using a 27" 1080p one before. The extra screen real estate has been amazing to my productivity. The text is super clear. The color accuracy isn't the best so dont expect it to be good for gaming though it still can be used for it. I was almost about to buy a 1440p 34" monitor until I saw this one. I still feel its too expensive as my previous monitors have been cheap ones but its worth it.
Yeah i increase in individual apps like Outlook, Excel, Word, Chrome, etc. and it has been fine so far. I also sit close to the monitor so the small text is manageable
I got the G75F 5k2k 40" VA only for productivity. An OLED is ideal for gaming with the perfect blacks but the text clarity is not good enough for productivity. Ideally, a 5k2k monitor is best for WFH as it gives you the highest PPI for most clarity so that you can open multiple windows. Try to look for a work monitor with gaming features on it. There is also the Dell Ultrasharp and the LG 5k2k depending on your budget.
I got the G75F and it has been pretty good so far. I only use it with my Mac so the VA panel is fine.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my M1 Air and it has been great. I dont do any gaming. I wanted a decent priced ultrawide with 5k2k to give highest PPI. To see the text easily, get a 5k2k. You can also check the Dell Ultrasharp or G9 49" or 57". Those are more expensive but will let you do work and game.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k and the PPI is amazing for text clarity.
Get a curved 5k2k non-OLED momitor and it should be great for productivity. Im personally using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my M1 Air and it has been great. Its a VA panel so not the best for gaming. An OLED would be the best for gaming but suffer with burn in and low text clarity for work related tasks.
Yes i am using it for the past 2 months. I did the test and the ghosting is visible. But its fine as im only using it for work and just needed a 5k2k for the high ppi
Im using the Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k with my mac. Check it out.
Im using a Type-C to DP cable and can run 5k2k native at 60hz on my M1 Air. VA was perfect for me for productivity tasks
Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k. Using it with my M1 Air Its a cheaper VA monitor compared to other 5k2k monitors.
Yes it does. But you need to use BetterDisplay to run at higher scaled resolutions. I tried using it but the text clarity was getting pretty bad so i just ran it at native 5k2k and use manual scaling in every app.
Was gonna comment this. Been using mine with my M1 Air for 2 months ago and has been great.
The Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k is a better option at a much lower price compared to the Dell.
G75F is the option to go. Much cheaper than the other options. It lacks some features that are easy to work around. The curve seems too much at first but you easily get adjusted to it in a week. You can always return it if you dont end up liking it.
Yes im using it with my M1 Air. It doesn't have KVM but USB-C hubs are pretty cheap these days. Monitors with KVM are also much more expensive. I also saw an external UGREEN KVM switch for $50
G75F 40" 5k2k. Amazing for work. Been using it with my mac.
Check out the G75F 40" 5k2k. Im using it in my office.
Been using it for 2 months only for work on my macbook. Has been amazing. Cant believe a 40" 5k2k is available at this price
Dell U4025Q would be your best choice if budget is not a problem. There is a newer 52" one too. For a cheaper VA option, the G75F is a 40" 5k2k monitor ideal for office work. Been using mine for last 2 months with a Mac.
It is true that OLED makes it harder to use anything else. Its amazing for gaming but not so great for gaming. Many people do use OLED for office work if you can deal with burn-in and text clarity as you stated. IPS or VA are the options you are left with. Ideally a 5k2k IPS or VA monitor is best for the highest PPI like the U4025Q. I bought the G75F 40" 5k2k VA monitor few months ago ans have been using it with my M1 Air at native 5k2k resolution. The extra screen space and amazing text clarity is a beauty as now i can open multiple excel sheets. It is one of the better VA panels and does not have the best color accuracy if you plan to game on it but its also $700. There a couple other 5k2k monitors similar to the G75F. While doing office work, you rarely notice the picture clarity as you are generally using Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc. You will get used to it coming from an OLED and dont have to worry about OLED issues. Makes you wonder why do you need OLED level of blacks when doing office work?
I was already using a USB-C hub with my mac on my previous 1080p monitor. For me, the text clarity is a huge upgrade. You can easily open multiple windows and be able to read text on each.
Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k. Using it with my mac
It is a VA panel but doesn't suffer from any of the VA problems. Probably one of the best VA panels from Samsung.
G75F 40" 5k2k is the one. Im using it with my macbook.
Im using the G75F 40" 5K2K with my M1 Air. Its a cheap 5k2k monitor but is ideal of productivity
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my M1 Air and has been amazing. Truly an underrated monitor for this price compared to the Dell Ultrasharp.
Been using it for 2 months. Truly an underrated 5k2k monitor.
G75F 40" 5k2k is a beast. Non-OLED and ideal for work.
Get the G75F 40" 5k2k. Im using it with my M1 Air for productivity only to open multiple excel sheets. The text clarity is amazing. Also check the other 5k2k panels that are not OLED
Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k. Been using for 3 months with my macbook now. Much cheaper than the Dell U4025Q.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my Macbook. Its great for productivity with high PPI. Its around $600 so a bit higher than your budget. Getting a 38 inch for less than $500 is difficult. Most cheaper ultrawide gaming monitor are 34" these days.
G75F 40" 5k2k is a better choice
Easy to get external KVM. VA panel is pretty good and doesnt look washed. Also less than half the price of the Dell.
Im using the G75F with my M1 Air using an external USB-C hub. I was also looking for a cheap productivity monitor around $500-ish. The G75F was a bit higher but the 5k2k was a dealbreaker at this price compared to the LG and Dell. I didnt want a KVM as i already a USB-C hub that i was using with my previous 1080p 24" cheap monitor which connects my keyboard, mouse and charging cable. I only had to buy a USB-C to DP cable to run at 5k2k@60hz. The HDMI through the hub could not support higher than 2k resolution. So i have 1 port for the hub and second port for display port cable to monitor. About the monitor, the curve isn't as bad as people think it is. I actually like that i can see all of my excel sheets without having to look to far away. The colors are okay since its a VA but doesn't matter for productivity. Get a UGREEN external KVM and you should be fine if you plan to switch between 2 devices. Otherwise a USBC to DP cable should run at 5k2k. You connect both devices to the KVM using HDMI and then run a DP cable to the monitor. I have an old laptop that i connect to my PC. I just plug the hub and DP cable into the 2nd laptop and dont need a KVM if you dont switch very frequently between the two.
Try looking to upgrade to a 5k2k monitor which gives you the highest PPI for office work. I recently got the G7 40" 5k2k and its amazing to open 4 excel sheets with insane text clarity.
There is also the Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k which I am using on my M1 Air. It is a VA panel but doesn't matter for productivity. Its much cheaper than other 5k2k too.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my mac. The screen estate is perfect.
Im using the Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k with my M1 Air. It has a strong curve but you get used to it. If you want a lesser curve, look for other non-OLED 5k2k monitors for the best text clarity and high PPI for productivity tasks. I have seen a few more 5k2k below 40" on the market. There is always the Dell U4025Q if your budget allows it. It has a gentle curve and has all the features you could ask for.
Same here. Felt the most for this price. Didnt want to spend a fortune on a monitor. Been great with my Macbook at 5k2k
VA panels are sufficient for work. They are fine for gaming but not as good as IPS and far away from OLED. But, Samsung VA panels are one of the best in the market so you dont face the typical VA issues lile ghosting. Personally, I haven't noticed any image issues so far but i dont game so could be different for others. I would consider this if you want a cheap 5k2k panel. There are a few others too so check out all the options.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k for producitivity and it has been amazing. I upgraded from a 27" 1080p monitor.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my mac. Check it out
For work, get a non-OLED VA/IPS panel for the best text clarity. For gaming, you can get an OLED for the best picture quality. Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my Mac for work and will recommend you to check it out. There are a couple other non-OLED 5k2k monitors but much more expensive.
The G9 49" would be ideal depending on how much screen do you need. You can also check for 40" which seem to be in the middle of 34 and 49. Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with my mac for office work. I felt the 49" was too big.
The G9 49" or 57" if you want the biggest size. I personally have been using the G75F 40" 5k2k for work only. I felt 40" was the perfect size.
Yes that is the one. I have not found any downside so far. I dont game on it but the color accuracy isn't the best as its a VA panel.
Im using the G75F 40" 5k2k with a very aggressive curve for work and have no issues
Check out the G75F 5k2k from Samsung. Pretty good for productivity.
Got it 2 weeks ago. It is amazing. Wonder why no reviews are out yet? Samsung refreshed its entire Odyssey lineup with a new G5, G6 and G7. Im running my G75F at 5k2k for productivity on a M1 Air and no complaints so far. My office has a lot of sunlight so might want to reduce that a bit. Hard to see in a bright room imo. Otherwise, its the cheapest 5k2k for productivity at $650.
Same! I got it last week and its a great 5k2k monitor. Im using it only for work so it fit my needs.
Get a 5k2k monitor for work. You will thank me later for the text clarity. An OLED 5k2k would have the risk of burn-in and wont give you the best text clarity. Im using the Samsung 40" 5k2k VA panel with my M1 Air and my experience has been pretty good. I can open 4 excel sheets at the same time and still be able to read the text on each. I dont think 1 monitor should be a problem when using with 2 different computers. On Mac, you can use BetterDisplay to configure to your liking. On Windows, its easier with scaling. Since you have 2 Mac's, getting a 5k2k panel should not be an issue. You can run both laptops with 5k2k resolution easily. A KVM would help in switching between both of them. There are also new 6k monitors being released in CES so wait for a few months to see what is new in the market as things change quickly in ultrawides.
Im using the Samsung G75F 40" 5k2k with my M1 Air. Its a VA panel so cheaper than the other options you have listed. It has been great for my productivity so far. Not sure why no one mentions it in 5k2k monitors for productivity.
Picked this up a couple weeks ago, I am loving it so far, especially the gaming experience. It's quite immersive. My previous panel was a 34" VA panel as well. The only issue I have on this monitor is the grey's look very faint for some things and I feel like my eyes have a hard time focusing when reading text. Anyone else have this issue? I changed the color profile, and adjusted cleartype, and have played with all the monitors settings, but it seems the text is not fully clear to me and frankly strains my eyes. I dunno if its the aggressive curve, but I am debating on returning it because even at a lower resolution of 1440p, my previous monitor never gave me eye strain.
The grey thing was a random example I found by accident, because it was an outlined image, where the "outline" of the image on a white background was vary faint on the G75F panel, but when I moved it to my 2nd monitor (4k IPS panel), it was a lot more prominent and noticeable to see. It's the first time I noticed such a difference, I tried many settings on the G75F to make it appear the same as on the IPS panel, but I couldn't get it. Not a big deal per say, but it was quite interesting, as I never noticed anything like that from my previous VA. Black Equalizer is at 5, and I have an overhead light behind me, when working in early am or night. It's definitely better once the daylight hits and I open the blinds. Maybe a monitor light would help as you stated. I dunno, maybe its just subjective, and it's my eyes. But I am pretty much forced to wear glasses when doing work on it, as that helps with the overall clarity big time. I'm still trying to figure out what's the best settings with this thing. Just sucks, because I bought it to prioritize work, but it's actually a much better for gaming. lol
I had the lg 38gn950 (essentially the older model of that lg, but the same panel) for many years of heavy use until it started developing bad image retention at about 8000h - but honestly, fantastic monitor, great size, minimal screen curve and glare, good motion and colour, though blacks in dark scenes were little washed out, and the local screen dimming zones are huge, do turned that off. HDR is weak, but is fine without it. I wanted to upgrade from that, so recently went with the 40 inch samsung g7 - its 4k, 180hz and higher contrast than the lg, but has worse motion blur - it could be worth looking at, especailly at its price point compared to the lg
Yeh i was really worried about it too, and if you do the ufo test, and compare the two, yes the lg is pretty much perfect motion, looking at the g7, there is a small smear. If you look for it, you can see abit of blur in certain scenarios, mainly smaller detailed and high contrast forground/background fast moving objects. playing skate and watching the characters hands grab off a bright concrete ledge and swing back and forth, you can see a little blur on the fingers In reality, I never notice, the jump from 38 to 40 is sort of significant, there's so much to look at with a 4k screen so big, you'd have to really keep your eye out for any blur. I've decided the bump to 4k is so nice to have, it outweighs the pixel response in terms of the overall experience, even in faster games like Battlefield 6 and forza - i don't notice. Screen glare is a little worse than the LG, the bend is slightly more, the contrast is alot better, colours a little better, colour shift is only really noticable if I move my head around like a crazy Owl, which was another concern for me as I use for graphic design.
I just got the 40” Samsung G75F yesterday and it’s really nice. I’m about 80-90% productivity (also coding) and 10-20% gaming. My previous display was a 34” at 3440x1440 and the Samsung blows it out of the water in clarity and sharpness. Some folks I talked to here weren’t fans of the color and viewing angles, but I used it for a few hours yesterday for gaming and didn’t notice any issues. I didn’t adjust any color, brightness, or contrast settings out of the box, either. I’ll know more about its effectiveness for work starting tomorrow, but my short tests yesterday were positive.
I have this monitor, coming from a QD-OLED G80SD. This is going to be a polarizing product for folks, and that’s fine. It’s a very niche use-case monitor. 40 inch 5k2k is absolutely the sweet spot for productivity. I’ve owned 4k32, 1440p 34 inch and 49 inch 1440p and by far this one feels the best. The right mix of more horizontal and vertical space. I have a thunderbolt dock so the appeal of the Dell and LG 5k2k models is less than for others probably, and their lackluster game performance is a deal breaker. I may only get a few hours a week to game, but I want to enjoy those hours, and I feel like I get that here. Yes it’s a VA panel but it’s a very good one. I am not overly sensitive to smearing so I don’t really see it, but maybe others will. Overall picture quality is very good. Is it objectively as good as OLED? No, but it’s much better than any IPS screen by a long shot with contrast and blacks. Colors to my eyes are good with a few tweaks. I do photo editing so I have a Spyder to calibrate with as well. HDR performance is decent (using RTX HDR I got better results than windows auto HDR). Text definitely feels better to read than on the G80SD despite the same pixel density. At this price, I think this is good value. I don’t feel like I need to babysit the monitor anymore which is really quite nice when working after having done it for the past year on the OLED. I’m quite happy with it. I’m probably 80/20 productivity and gaming, sometimes 90/10 or 100/0. My two cents anyway.
I’ve shared my feedback on other posts but will reiterate here given there aren’t many reviews or real world experience users out there to share. For context, I’ve spent the last couple of years on OLED, first the Alienware 3423dw, then the MSI mpg321urx and a Samsung G80sd. I’ve also tried (and returned) the MSI and Samsung 49 inch super ultra wides. I “downgraded” to the g75f 40 and it’s been a pleasant surprise for me. I like it way more than I thought I would and giving up perfect blacks was a lot easier to do. Part of that may be because I don’t play a lot of really dark games, but I think part of it is this monitor has really good contrast. Colors seem great and calibrating with my Calbrite went well. My use case is 80% productivity and 20% gaming, maybe 90/10 or 100/0 on really busy weeks. I can’t understate how much easier it is on my eyes after a 10 or 12 hour day of spreadsheets and legal memos. Not having to set low brightness to avoid burn in helps with that I’m sure. Not having to hide taskbars, keep a bland black background are pluses for general usability/ enjoyment. The 5k2k and 40 inch form factor feels best for productivity, and while the Dell or LG IPS monitors have more productivity features, most of their convenience is covered by my work issued thunderbolt dock. Viewing angles aren’t nearly as good comparing to OLED but in practical use I’ve not had any issues. On occasion at the farthest edge of the screen I can see slight brightness / gamma shift. But otherwise, I sit in front of my monitor and haven’t found it problematic. Overall, seems to strike the right balance of productivity, gaming, and peace of mind for my admittedly very fringe use case/needs. At $676 all in with Samsung EPP through my work, I feel like I get good value out of it. Not worth it at retail or really anything above $850 in my opinion. I know the “OLED or die” crowd will pan it as poor value and for the gaming enthusiasts/ priority buyer, I’m sure it is bad value. But if you fall in a similar use case as me, I’d recommend giving it a shot if you get it on sale, you might be surprised. Worst thing that can happen is you don’t like it and return it.
Just know that if you're trying to do a split screen with dual inputs, expect one side to go off often. Its a known problem with the odyssey series
