Man, when did Henry’s shoot up in price *so much*? We bought ours in ~2023 for $320. I can’t seem to find any under $500 in the US. I remember [this](https://evacuumstore.com/products/numatic-henry-200-canister-vacuum) site had it for $350 when we were going to buy one

Henry. But not just your bog standard 600w Henry. There’s a guy on eBay who reconditions them with 1400w Dyson motors. This fucker tries to pull the carpets up if you stick him on high power mode. 100% recommend. https://ebay.us/m/twWQRw

I like Henry but Henry lacks suction speed control. For a plush delicate rug the gentlest cleaning is done with a combo brush, brisles retracted, and you can turn down the suction to the appropriate level. The Miele C1 Pure Suction and Sebo K2 Kombi are 2 canister vacuums that you should look at. Both have tools to clean baseboards and much more. The Miele C1 is a little lighter and quieter. The Sebo K2 is a little more durable and it has a longer cord.

I haven't tried the new Bissell SpotClean C5, but I know the Bissell SpotClean HydroSteam is quieter than the older SpotClean Pro series. So I think it's reasonable that the Bissell SpotClean C5 is quieter than the old SpotClean Pet/ProHeat series. I have a Henry vacuum and they are very quiet. It's larger than the Bissell spot cleaners but the Numatic Geroge can do carpet cleaning and regular dry vacuuming and it should be a quieter machine. You could vacuum and then spot clean with the same machine with a George.

Samsung stopped making corded vacuums for some time so these are all older vacuums. The picture is of a suction-only vacuum, no carpet powerhead so it's best for hard floors. The cyclone and filter are above average for a bagless vacuum. But it's still a bagless vacuums so that means it's not good for allergies and it requires more maintenance. I wouldn't get a used Samsung bagless vacuum if this is going to be your primary vacuum. Don't buy it unless you're a collector. For regular daily use the Henry Hoover is so much better and brand new prices are pretty cheap if you're in the UK. If you have carpets get a Sebo with a carpet powerhead.

I agree with the Henry recommendation, they're very durable vacuums with strong suction, but they are surprisingly quiet. Henry 160 is the smallest canister good for homes. I think you should check out the Henry 200 and Henry 240, their bag compartment holds more and the cords are longer. I think your clients will really like his face and you can draw/add some body builder arms on his tub. Henry fits standard 1.25 inch tools so adding a good Wessel Werk hard floor brush is easy. Backpack vacuums are good for covering large areas that are not cramped or confined. I do not like backpacks if you have to bend and move stuff a lot or stop vacuuming frequently.

All of the cheaper cordless vacuums have more battery and motor problems within a year. No matter the price or brand I recommend getting a cordless vacuum with replaceable batteries and replacement parts available. It looks like the Xiaomi G20 does not have a replaceable battery so I would avoid that. If you live in the U.K. I would take advantage of the amazing prices you have on Henrys. The Henry Quick Pet is on sale for £219 and a regular corded Henry is £129. Thoughts?

I spent close to €500 on a Dyson 4 years ago and it died on me last night (RIP!). But it was on the blink for months, ill never rebuy. My next handheld will be Shark, they’re supposed to be brilliant. For plug ins it used be Henry but the EU changed maximum wattage to 900 and it scuppered the power behind Henry which was 1200 watts at the time . The hotel Henry hoovers were all pre 2017 and will last a lifetime if cared for. My dad has a Meile C2 and it’s incredible. Would take the pepper off your dinner it’s that thorough!

[Hetty](https://www.bol.com/nl/p/numatic-180-hetty-eco-stofzuiger-accessoire-kit-as1-620w/9300000013268210?referrer=socialshare_pdp_androidapp)

This has probably been asked in this subreddit before but I couldn't find it, so sorry if superfluous (please direct me!). Apologies for question but I'm finding it very difficult to get honest info on this subject, particularly where people are trying convince me that low wattage and great suction are possible. I don't believe that. Criteria: \- available in UK \- able to be used with bags - almost certainly a "canister" vac \- at least 1200 W, ideally plus 1500 W. i.e. good suction - no crappy 620 W Henrys please (already have one) \- corded \- able to be used either as a domestic thing or for a shop vac (for sawdust) NB am not a professional but do have a router which I'm using relatively often! AND \- sub- £100! \- ideally able to fit filter with a (generic) anti-sawdust pre-filter bag \- able to last (maintaining good suction) for years, if cared for suitably Best thing I'm gravitating towards currently: [this ](https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Wet+Dry-Vacuum-Cleaner-With-Blower---1250W/p/215735). NB couldn't give a toss about "wet" cleaning, but apparently stoopid politics has prevented the development/selling of powerful dry-onlys.

Thanks for that. What I'm looking for is, as I said before, something to meet the "shop vac" requirement... an essential aspect of which is powerful suction. My current Henry is only 620 W, quite a bit less than 800 W. You seem to have extensive knowledge of the market and the current state of the tech, so ... what make and model might you recommend around the £100 mark? Say, around 800 W, with the better impeller designs, etc., thus holding the prospect of good suction for longer? I just looked on ebay for a Sebo with "ET1 power head": nothing came up but these seem way beyond what I'm willing to pay. I'm also unlikely to buy an item like a vacuum cleaner secondhand: it's got to have a decent warranty. Also ... again, you say "Carpet cleaning is much more to do with agitation than raw power". Actually my current Henry \*\*is\*\* OK for carpet cleaning (not that I have any carpets in my house).

I got rid of my Dyson this year and bought a Henry. The suction is good, the build is good and I'm only on my second bag (2 adults, 2 children, 1 cat, 3 bed house, usually hoover a couple of times a week. I think we've had it since February. The only thing was that it smelt a bit musty, presumably because I'm collecting dust and hair and keeping it in a cupboard rather than emptying every time like I did with the Dyson. I've chucked a magic tree in on top of the bag and that seems to have resolved that. I don't think the design is as good as a Dyson; all the Dyson bits click together which is easy. BUT the cost difference isn't worth it. Henry was good value at less than half the price of the Dyson, British made and performs well with a smile on his face.

I’d highly recommend a canister vacuum cleaner with a dedicated bare-floor nozzle - the kind that’s just a brush with no wheels. Something like a Wessel-Werk CN250 or D 330 Turn & Clean. Both Miele and SEBO offer branded versions of these. These don’t have wheels and sit on just bristles. No plastic wheels and baseplates fo break. These glide over the uneven floors beautifully and strong suction will pick the dirt up out of the crevices. If you’re dealing with fine dust, bags are the way to go. No filters to wash, no dust cups to clean out, no plumes of dust. No, the bags won’t fill up instantly or loose suction the way old paper vacuum bags did. I’d strongly recommend looking at SEBO E3, or K3; Miele C1 or C3 canister with the Miele Parquet nozzle, Numatic Henry with the bare-floor only brush. If you find a canister you like that doesn’t have a no-wheels bare floor brush, you can get aftermarket ones either online or at your local vac shop. Most canisters use either a 35mm (Miele size) fitting, or generic 1 1/4” or 32mm fitting. Check out your local vacuum shop and let them know your flooring situation. They’ll be able to get you the exact attachments you need.

Miele's are great, but they're not really meant for hard commercial use. They have lots of refinement, but the bags are on the smaller side If it's just hard floors, and you have issues with hair, I'd go for a Numatic. Probably a James or a Henry, but they have lots of other similar ones. Very simple machines built to take abuse, huge bag capacities, low running costs. The James also has an easily replaceable cord If the supplied floor tools prove inadequate, a good upgrade would be the RD285 from Wessel Werk for handling hair

I'm from Singapore. I think good options would be Miele C1, C3, and Numatic Henry/James. You can even find a Lindhaus if you want. The bagged Bosch canisters would also be good options. The Miele C3 in Singapore is the 2000W pure suction model. Whether you want a turbo-brush or not, that's kinda borderline The Henry 160 would be quite expensive though. I got a quote from the distributor here and it's about $450SGD. You can ask the Numatic distributor about the various models they can bring in https://jeffsupplies.com/product-tag/numatic/ There's also a Lindhaus dealer (Supersteam) who could potentially bring in the Valzer or the HF6 Personally, I've owned the Henry, the HF6, and a Bosch GL-30 (roughly the Series 4). They will all do a great job on the hard floors and deal with your long hair. The combi tool should be OK on the rug, but you can always get an aftermarket turbo-brush from Wessel Werk/Miele/Numatic if there's a need The HF6 is the only one of the lot where an electric powerhead is an option (though I don't think it's really needed for your situation) As far as I know, there's no Sebo distributor in Singapore Henry's appear for cheap once in a while on Carousell. You can buy bags direct from the distributor for $40/10 bags

The C3 in the UK does not have a powered brushroll. Nor does the Henry and his cousins. They do have turbobrushes, which may or may not do a good enough job on your carpet. They do tend to tangle quite easily if you have long hair or pets The best BIFL option would be a Sebo Dart or Felix if you prefer uprights and/or lower cost. The K3 and E3 would be the better option for mixed flooring and if you like the canister format Bagged vacuums don't require that many bags. Probably 2-4 bags a year depending on the size of your apartment and cleaning requirements. They really compact the dust and feel like little firm pillows when totally full. This is unlike a bagless vacuum that fluffs up the dust in the dust compartment. Additionally, bagless vacuums have consumeables in the form of filters as well

My favorites are Fantom Toz kapani and Electrolux T8 bagless (wich is the only multi cyclonic canister vacuum i know Electrolux ever made) And the one i hate is (Let's just say don't like) Roventa compact power bagless. (it's so bulky and also the hose makes noises in every move also the head is impossible to pull forward/backwards because you can't remove the hairs that tangle to the wheel) Oh and i think henry is the only vacuum i would buy as a bagged vacuum.

2 dogs who shed and two girls + kids drop random bits paper.handhelds I predominantly use them for stairs cars beds and use corded Henry for donkey work. I have both a shark and Dyson running concurrently. I have a 7-8 year old Dyson battery went and we got a shark Dyson was sitting their and I then got a battery adapter on AliExpress that let me use DeWalt batteries in Dyson. Dyson has good build quality and good suction. Battery life was shite even new when on turbo. The floor too (carpet head)l clogged with hair pretty easy but usually the scissors fixed it Shark Good battery life,(also 5 years newer so battery tech may have increased and it's bigger so more cells)and some come with 2 batteries.I had a problem with the motor after 2 years and they replaced it very easily and didn't even look for a copy of the receipt so I'd say the after sales Is excellent. . Floor tool it has an flexible pipe which you can use to hoover under beds sofas ect ,I find it clogged to easy and required you to disassemble and use coat hanger or something to pull out hair. Attachments the small turbo brush (pet hair) Dyson is better.shark one has silicone fins rather than brushes and while the Dyson brush clog with hair the silicone ones don't lift hair as well. Overall both are comparable I don't think either would fully replace my henry.though my Dyson is an older model and may not be a like to like comparison then newer v10s I'm intrigued by battery Henry my local soft play place has one and it seemed to be doing a good job in a demanding environment.if I had to empty a bag once every 4 months I'd honestly consider it an improvement over bagless as they enviable make a dusty mess.

Potentially you live in a humid house, this looks a lot like the fluff that collects in our bathroom from towels. Alternatively jogging bottoms/socks with fleece lining, turn them inside out and wash them. I think this vacuum you have is defective/blocked (I don’t recognise it from the label on the floor head). Buy a regular corded pull along Henry for ~£100 (or less if you buy a used one) and see if life improves, then you can spend the big bucks later.

1. power isn't an issue. Wattage on the upper end cordless dysons is as much or more than some of the corded miele canister vacs sold in my country. 2. Definitely more bagged corded available than just numatic/henry. 3. Weight in the handl. I have a have a canister and there are more than a few others on the market. I also have a nice cordless upright that we love (not available in the USA, bosch Athlet). Meile makes the triflex which can be configued as an upright. 4. My henry cordless canister has the same exact filtration as my henry corded.

Don't have the meile but have the henry. Comments: \- Good suction. \- Breaky hose (I've replaced the end 3 or 4 times between my two henrys and the entire hose once) but easy to get parts (esp. if you can order from the UK). But other than the hose it's 'built to last". \- Not a fan of the electric cord take up system.... hate turning that little knob. Wish I had just got a james as it's less complex and I normally end up taking all of the cord out anyways. \- Very top heavy. Easy to tip over when it gets caught on something or roll down the stairs. \- Decent filtration. Love that large triflex pre-motor filter and the bag does a decent job. I use one of my henry's for fireplace ash and it never sets off the dirty air sensor on my air cleaner. (OTOH my sebo will set it off). \- Totally worth the UK price (I think I paid $170 usd) but I feel in the USA it's way over priced ($399?). \- Works great on hard floors with the wesselwerk RD285. A great upgrade to the stanard floor tool. \- pet pevee: I can't find the RD285 with a parking clip so stowing it is a mess with the wand/hose just laying all over the place.

\>  and it works amazingly with the et-1 for bare floor usage.  Wow. Not my experience at all. Are you using it with the brush roll on? Not an option for some floors so the brush roll justs gets in the way of the suction and the bulky head gets in the way of vacuuming edges. ET-1 is meh (2+ years experience) on hard floors. When I use it I feel 'm getting $200 vacuum performance out of a $600 vacuum. Big house with messy kids from teens to littles. Not just vacuuming up yesterday's dust. Throw some fruit loops on the floor and tell us how it does. With the parquet tool and the front brush removed its a hard floor monster. A real competitor to the Henry with wesselwerk RD285. I prefer the henry performance a bit more as I can lift and drag back over almost anything. Stuff big enough will snowplow on the parquet tool even with the front brush removed and lifting the heavy felix is a pita to get over stuff that won't fit. And noise? Easily the loudest vacuum I own (I have a lot of vacuums). At least it feels like it. Maybe it's the same as the henry just closer to my ears? Other peeves: Smells, generates a lot of heat and filtration fails the air cleaner test (henry passes it). (Air cleaner dirty air sensor turns angry red when using the felix) and of course won't stand up when using the parquet head. BTW reading this I had flashbacks to sebo USA marketing. They've contacted me directly to let me know the ET-1 is great on hard floors. I tell that to my hard floors all the time but they are just not listening.

My wife and I are also in the EU, and managed to spend an insane amount on vacuum cleaners over the past 5 years. It all began when her old corded AEG broke. Family members suggested Dyson, so we got a Micro for €500. It was laughably weak and couldn't pick up a dried leaf. Insane waste of money. Gave it to family. Next, a Makita 40v backpack, even more expensive. That's actually not bad, but not at all worth the money, and I would take it back if I could. Then, a Henry corded vac. That was more like €150 and well worth it. Finally, a Makita 12v CXT handheld stick for €25. That's the one I'm happiest with and most like to use. We live in the ground floor in a rural area with young kids, so there's a lot of dirt, and I wouldn't want to only have the handheld. But if we lived still lived in an apartment in the city or not on the ground floor, the €25 one would be totally adequate as our only vacuum cleaner, or maybe the 18v LXT version with the cyclone attachment. Note that these are usually more than €25, but I found a sale and already had the battery and charger. Even with battery and charger, I think these can be had for less than €150. Conclusions If you don't mind the large size, I recommend the Henry corded vac. If you want small and cordless and don't mind some weakness, a Makita stick vacuum especially if you already own some compatible batteries and chargers. I assume it's similar to other sticks under €150. PS: if you can find a local well reviewed shop which sells and repairs vacuum cleaners, my real recommendation is to ask them. That's where we got the Henry.

I have a karcher (think of it as an industrial cylinder) just like a henry - and there are some places in the house where it would be difficult to use the cylinder. Personally don't get rid of Henry - as it's a god send for a real good vacuum that sucks well and sucks up the mess in times of urgency (when your stand alone is battery drained. But I do recommend the Shark Stratos - it's a really good addition to my cylinder vacuum. It's lightweight and the battery lasts well. You can choose IQ sensos or eco mode or boost mode. With boost mode it sucks really well for a battery, but of course you do expect it to drain quickly in the process. Whether as a vacuum for the home or a smaller hoover for the stairs and clean up mess in the kitchen. The stratos has done a good job thus far. Battery 3.5 hours to charge up fully - and Ninja Kitchen UK and Shark are in the same group - so from a warranty point of view - you got it covered if anything goes wrong.

The only correct answer. Millions sold and with very little advertising which is a testament to the brand. Been going for years without needlessly changing the design so you aren’t stuck with obsolete parts. Easily serviceable with inexpensive spare parts, all of which are readily available directly from Numatic and a decent range of attachments available too. Bought a Dyson cordless when I first moved in but it just felt a bit work shy and complained a lot. Replaced with a Henry and it’s a trooper. Does everything well with no fuss. I’ve used it in the garage. I’ve attached it to the mitre saw. It’ll ingest sawdust and nails like it’s nothing. Got one at the shop too, I’m sure it’s been there for at least 15 years and it’s used at least three times a week. Hasn’t seen a bag in years. What a fucking *brilliant* machine.

Henry will always win, although I hate the fuckers smug face. I regret getting rid every day but can't justify buying one again as I've a Shark now. Will wait for it to kick the bucket and then I've my eye on the stand up Henry. Miele is reviewed very well, though so you have probably made a great choice. Fucking hate getting old and having strong opinions on something as mundane as a hoover. Jeeeeeeesis.

The day we fell out was literally because of his fucking face. It makes me so irrationally angry. Getting stuck at a corner, or behind a door and no matter how much you pull you just see half of that rotten smile and one eye and no moving in him. Or when he topples over and is just lying there, still grinning. BIN! Raging too because only seen a tiktok not long ago that you can remove the face! I would’ve done that rather than changing if I had of known, but the anger within me took over and my shark was half price. I can say what I want about him but at the end of the day he’s some machine. 😂

Just to chime in here, I had a Numatic Henry vaccum for about 10 years then moved to a Chinese branded stick vaccum, just last week I bit the bullet and went with the Dyson v15 and I genuinely was shocked at its incredibly good performance. My carpets were only visibly clean till I used the v15. It seems like this subreddit, in general, is entirely anti dyson or stick vaccum/cordless, so I wouldn't pass any remarks. It's like a vendetta or cult of folk out with pitch forks to tell you why you're wrong.

I used to think Henry was a good cleaner on carpets till I moved to a Dyson, the amount of dust that was taken out of the carpet with the Dyson AFTER the Henry had went over it was insane, before this I was whole heartedly a Henry advocate.

You seem very condescending. As I pointed out - I had a Henry and always said nothing would be better than it, but I was severely wrong. I tested it when I got the new one and did a thorough clean of carpet in one bedroom and then used the V15 Detect with automatic suction and did the same pass, it was empty before use and returned half full of dust with the reading at 800 million microns on the dust screen, normal daily hoovering returns about 12 million now which is normal, even with use of a carpet cleaner like vax, but what was extracted shocked me. This was when I realised that Henry just wasn't doing what I thought it should have done. I understand that many people in this sub reddit have a thing against "plastic" stick vaccums, but I have to defend it this time around. Maybe not all of them are great but I paid 375 euro for this one which was heavily discounted. Who knows it may break in a shorter time than you'd get from other corded and bagged vaccums but I personally feel it cleans my house much better than the other two Henry's that I did have for over 15 years.

The Henry is going to be more durable and reliable, although Miele aren’t bad in that front, they have become more fragile recently. Spare parts and bags are more expensive. In the UK, a Henry like this can be had from £100, which makes the argument for it far easier. Miele tend to be far more complicated to repair than a Henry or Sebo which are both derived from the commercial sector.

r/VacuumCleaners • Henry Compact or Miele C1 Compact? ->

Not compared to anything Numatic or Sebo which are by their design, serviceable. I can only speak from experience but the S7 upright Miele did a few years ago was the most complicated vacuum I have ever worked on, including modern dysons. Horribly complex.

r/VacuumCleaners • Henry Compact or Miele C1 Compact? ->
Reddit Icon
Environmental-Lion82 • 19 days ago

Because it’s a simplistic design dating back to the early 80s; the motor being above the bags means there is no loss in suction even as it fills, the plastic tub at the bottom has nothing mechanical or electrical, and the top unit housing the cable rewind. Everything is designed to be tough, durable and repairable. Most Henry’s ever made (over 15 million) are still in use today. Absolutely no benefit if a Henry looking like a Miele which while it might be more aesthetic, is compromised in comparison. There may be an argument that Henry is top-heavy, but given the many other benefits over this design vs the Miele, it’s not a big deal at all.

I’ve never had a Henry fall while using it. The coasters are much bigger on Henry than a Miele. Miele canisters can dig into the carpet. I’m still struggling with the original comment suggesting that this design is in any way ugly. It has a smiling fucking face 😂there are far uglier appliances out there

There are several different ways you could go with this. What would you consider a "long" hose? Smaller carry-able canister type vacs like an oreck shoulder vac could work. Though they aren't hepa, and personally not a big fan of them. Small bags, small motors, bit noisy etc. Slightly bigger machines like a Miele C1 would be great, they are pretty lite but more capable. Hose might not be long enough for leaving the canister on the floor and climbing a ladder to reach high up for example. But for filtration and suction, great choice. Similar in size and characteristics would be a Sebo K or E series machine. A Numatic Henry is a personal favorite of mine for whole house dusting. The hoses are a bit longer than average, the tools are good, and the extention tubes themselves have a nice trick. Unlike most canisters where the curved extension part is the hand grip, and then you place the tools at the end of the straight tube section, with Numatic vacuums you can reverse that. You can put the curved end of the extension at the end with a tool attached while the straight section is what you grasp while cleaning. This gives you the perfect angle for ceiling fans or the tops of moldings and picture frames. Downside with a numatic is the weight and possibly bulk, they aren't very small or lite and might be a struggle to carry around. There are several options as you can see. Depends what you want to prioritize most I think. And side note, I think an extension hose can be bought separately and attached to any of these machines for extra reach if the default length isn't sufficient. Sebo themselves sell an extension hose. Numatic might as well, otherwise I know aftermarket extra long hoses are avaliable for Numatic machines. Miele you'd have to get a little more creative since they don't really sell one themselves, and they use a larger than average diameter. You can get a 35 to 32mm adapter and then attach a genetic extension hose to the miele hose. Only annoying thing is then the miele tools wouldn't fit at the end of the extension hose, so you'd almost need a duplicate attachment set.

I’m in the Uk so I’m not sure how much a Henry might be but Henry vacuums are very reliable, very good quality and they pick up everything (apart from liquid of course..), but they have great suction and should last a long time They are a little heavy and bulky, and they can start to smell but you can buy vacuum fresheners and place some under the bag, that’ll clear the smell. They are the only issues I’ve found but I hope this helps!

Amazon's business plan relies on having one or two big/massive storage units and a rapid distribution system so they can buy in bulk from manufacturers and benefit from good discounts as they are selling in bulk. Then they ship stuff out quickly so if you order today it arrives the next working day and you don't need to leave the house. Consequently they can undercut competitors like Argos or high street retailers who have to pay high street rents and rates which hit their margins plus they might not have the item you require in stock but can supply it within a few days but that's not the same as next day delivery, and you have to trek into town to buy it. However saying that returning stuff is usually easier... I doubt they'd sell factory seconds except when marked. As for reviews...always take these with a pinch of salt, you'll probably see plenty of positive reviews for things but maybe we pay more attention to the odd bad review? And if you want a vacuum buy a Henry.

A bagged vacuum has always been superior to a bagless as long as you can gurantee long term availability of the bags at a good price. For this reason the only bagged vacuum I will use is a Numatic (Henry). A Numatic Charles or George will be quite loud in comparison to your old Miele and also a lot less manoeuvrable as they’re a lot bigger. A Henry would be close to the noise level of your old Miele but is obviously dry use only. Personally I wouldn’t have a Charles or George as my main use dry vacuum for the noise and size issues. Henry, or any of the other Numatic models. No question. They may look like a toy but there is a reason every professional cleaner here has one. They're so cheap in the UK for what they are because they are made here. £130 will buy you a brand new one, but an second hand one is a perfectly good option too. They last absolutely forever (I know 1980s models still in daily use), have very powerful suction, you can get bags easily, and the cord length is insane. The bags are big and don't need changing often. The only thing a Henry isn't so great for is deep pile carpet. Probably best to get an upright as well for that. To be fair though, I haven't tried one with a powered brush head, so maybe they can do long carpet well with one of those.

**EDIT: I got confused between George and Charles, so ignore me!** ~~Meh, I find Charles very top heavy and prone to fall over because he is taller than Henry and has an extra water pump in the top. I also greatly miss the wind up cord Henry has, and Charles comes with a shorter hose than Henry which can also be a bit irritating (though you could buy a replacement). I'd get a Henry and buy a separate wet vac if needed. Screwfix do a cheap Titan wet vac that can also work as an air blower and dry vacuum. It was £40 when I bought it and works well. I use it for plumbing and cleaning the carpet after the dogs have been sick. If you really want to clean carpets your probably better off buying a specialist one, though. Charles is okay at it, but not that great.~~ My mother went through a phase of having several Dysons and they were all pretty shit in my opinion.

Make sure you can get a HEPA filter for it, whatever you buy. It's the really fine dust that hangs in the air and gets through the ordinary filters that is the most dangerous. The heavier stuff tends to drop out pretty quickly so you don't breathe it. I'm sure I've read somewhere that the fine dust can stay suspended in the air for 30 minutes or so, maybe longer. Without a good filter your vac is just blowing the fine stuff back up in the air. You can buy a third party HEPA filter that fits a Henry (or Charles) on Amazon for £20 or so.

I’ve got the 15 with the laser, and agree it’s really there for convenience I can quickly grab it whilst I’m waiting for the coffee machine to heat up or the kettle to boil and give the living room / lounge a quick once over, etc It takes a bit of maintaining, so I’ve got a couple of filters so I can swap out when one needs washing, and you’ve gotta take it “apart” occasionally and clean out the canister and vents inside with a brush, but it works and has enough suction to do a decent job. I’ve got a good old Henry for the deep cleans, has way more suction but is much more heavy to carry around and means pulling out the cable and plugging it in

Can't believe anyone rates Shark, had one to replace a Dyson and it was rubbish, worse than the Dyson was. Anti-hair wrap just means 'wraps differently' in my experience. Piddling power, constantly needed cleaning/ detangling/ emptying and cost quite a bit. Bought a Henry as the HVAC engineers I work with use them, never looked back. Powerful, big capacity, long hoses and cables. Dirt cheap too.

corded shark - absolutely phenomenal 10/10 cordless vax - fine? nothing heavy duty though Henry - a piece of shit. Had to buy like 4 replacement heads in the space of 2 years, and i just assumed carpets could never be totally clean. I upgraded to the shark and I could not believe the amount of dust and hair that it was able to suck up that i thought was just a permanent feature of the carpet now.

We have Dyson, Miele and Henry. Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Henry is the work horse for cleaning the log burner, mud, brick, sick. You can chuck anything at him but he falls over a lot.

Corded vacuums will always perform better than cordless. Even the good cordless aren't as good as a fairly standard corded. I went from a £600 miele cordless to the cheapest corded Shark I could get and I'm far more impressed by the Shark. Shark's customer services are excellent and come with a 5 year warranty, and I've known them sort problems after that too. I've not known Henry's price change in sales (I worked at Currys for a few years). They're reliable and good but there's the ongoing cost of bags. The actual vacuum on a shark is the same across the models (for the same generation) - the differences are that the "pet" model comes with a motorised small head (for doing sofas, stairs, etc), and anti-hair wrap stops long hairs getting wrapped around the brush (but things like sweet wrappers will get stuck). The filters are washable, and you can get replacement filters from aliexpress for next to nothing. I know a lot of people here love henry, and it is a good vacuum, but I find it a bit cumbersome and prefer my shark.

i've explored r/VacuumCleaners a lot for this exact reason and the bare minimum for carpet is the kenmore 400 canister vacuum. you might be able to get away with the kenmore bu4050 upright for low pile, but i can't guarantee you're ever going to actually get any carpet clean without the power head. if you can go a little further than the kenmore, i strongly recommend a henry!

This is 100% not accurate. Dysons are very poor performers and most don’t recommend them. That particular Kirby model 18 to 21 years old and can’t even buy it new anymore, and most people who like Kirby’s don’t even recommend them. Cordless vacuums are mediocre at best. This may be the most recommended vacuums among the general public, but for most aficionados, they know to stay away from the vast majority of these. There are a few good ones in there. The Mieles, the Henry, the Kirby is at least a reliable cleaner and a cheap option.

Try “Henry” or “James”. Both excellent, great suction, bullet-proof, small, lightweight and bags are reasonable. I was so tired of the POS Dyson build quality but these are just as good, and far and away better built. The bag ensures a couple of things: less dust going back into your environment and less dust getting into the motor. This helps with reliability and longer life.

Having burned through a couple of Dysons and a couple of shark, honestly you cannot beat a Henry. They are bullet proof if you do a lot of DIY. A Dyson would last us 2 years, first Shark died in a year and was replaced under warranty, then the new one died again, and we got a partial refund as not fit for purpose. Henry has been serving us well for 4 years now and is as good as new, and I make a LOT of dust. Edit to add: and Mrs S has been know to vacuum the patio when she can’t be arsed to get the brush out. So when I say bullet proof, I mean it almost literally.

Dyson - we've had 2 or 3 handhelds. OK day to day for the hard floors and pretty good for carpets occasionally. Fills up quickly and does a better job than our cleaner's vac but eventually bits break. Normally just out of warranty and parts aren't available directly so I end up on ebay. I'm not convinced it's worth the price tag TBH Shark - I'll look at this next time for price point on handhelds Henry - we've had ours for about 15 years. He's done several renovations, sucked up all sorts of horrible stuff including garden waste. That thing is bullet proof and if it eve does go wrong, it's simple enough to fix Miele - I'm going to look at this next time as it gets some good reccos here Father in law likes his Vax

I used it during my reno.  I don’t like how bulky they are and a stick one is better for me (I have a Dyson) especially on the stairs. Another thing I don’t like about the Henry is that you need to buy filters.  I used to live in Germany and there are some lovely vacuums (I had a Philips and a rowenta ine -there are some on Amazon uk) that are really good and they do not need a filters.  Something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rowenta-Cyclonic-RO2913EA-Cleaner-Decibeles/dp/B083P9ZGRL Not sure if this is the exact model though.

I have a Miele upright and HATE it for my home. Also had a canister that was beyond infuriating to use in the house. I have a Henry that I use for basement and to clean my cars. I don’t understand how anyone can tolerate a canister machine in the house. It’s like taking an overweight cat for a walk with the added bonus of cracking corner beads on walls. I actually just ordered a shark not 10 minutes ago to replace my Miele for home use. I’ll take it to work where it’ll probably do better. Miele designed the brush roll in a very poor way. We don’t have carpet, just a few runner and if you don’t constantly have the brush roll running hair will bind up in the belt drive system and start to strip out the belt. I’ve replaced countless belts, the entire housing and the motor when my kids didn’t realize what was going on with the god awful sound it was making. I contacted them about it and their solution? Take it apart and clean it after every use. Are you kidding me? That involves pulling the bottom plate off (6 torx screws of 2 sizes) unclipping a flimsy plastic latch on the belt housing that has about 10 uses before it breaks and if it’s bad enough unmounting the motor. That is in no way feasible to do daily or at times several times daily depending on how anal I get. I salvaged a Shark 2 years ago from the trash, pulled it apart and cleaned the heck out of it. And it’s used in the finished portion of our basement several times a week. It’s been great. I like the general quality of the Miele and the design of how the rotator head works is great. But gosh they missed the mark on overall design. To further take points off it’s very very very unfriendly for repair. People like to say the higher end machines are repairable. Ok… I guess. But when I’m shelling out nearly $100 on a replacement hose every 3 years in addition to belts, and brush rolls I can just buy a “disposable” one every few years and when it breaks I can usually hobble it by for another few. This is my 3rd Miele and probably my last to be honest. My first served me fairly well in a house with carpet until it took a fall down the steps when my wife lost grip on it (because let’s face it they aren’t light). The cost to fix it was going to be more than it cost new. And that was just in parts for me to do it. Rant over. Sorry. Just read this at the wrong (right?) time.

Henry’s are excellent. There’s a reason cleaning contractors use them. Looking for a vacuum with bells and whistles is pointless, just more to go wrong. Two dogs and cats. One of the dogs sheds vacuum killing amounts of hair. I’ve replaced the filters and the hose in 12 years. He’s still going!

We have a large flat with hard floors and two kids under 3. Looking for a light and reliable cordless for under £300 (if such a thing exists!) I've spotted a Miele duoflex hx1 for £279, various Sharks (stratos/clean and empty/power detect), Vax (homepro), Bosch (unlimited 9 cordless) but I'm drowning in reviews! I already have a Henry hoover which is powerful but weighs a ton and not practical for daily use. Looking for something I can use every day for a minute or two to pick up crumbs, dust, dirt dragged in by the buggy etc

A Henry should be at the top of your list, since it's affordable and manufactured in the UK.  You can use variety of parquet brushes and the horsehair ones would be great for LVP.  A miele or Sebo would be more expensive and would come with extra bells and whistles such as self retracting cords and better ergonomics, storage.  If you need to clean rugs, you can find a turbo attachment.  These options will last you 15+ years.   If you want something cordless, Dyson fluffy rollers are good for quick pickups and won't hurt the flooring.  The V8 absolute package includes a fluffy roller and goes on sale intermittently to be within your budget.  Keep in mind while it might be a space saving option and convenient, cordless stick vacuums usually last a couple of years before big problems arise, hence why the main recommendation is for bagged, plug in vacuums.

I've never head of a vaccuum cleaner with no consumable parts such as disposable bags, unfortunately. I wish I had one, that'd be great! Well the tiny cordless ones don't have disposable bags - you just pour the dust out into the litter bin - but they have *nowhere near* enough suction power for a couch. Vaccuming a couch needs a lot of suction power. Most durable brands have good suction power. Numatic (the ones with the faces on them) have fantastic suction power, are very durable, and it's easy to buy replacement parts if something breaks. It's a British brand so probably available in India. They are expensive, but less expensive than other vaccuums that are equally good. Since Numatic is so easy to repair, a secondhand Numatic might be a good choice?

Get the Henry hoover, it’s made by a British company and it’s the dogs bollocks. I’ve had one for over ten years. Bags last for ages unless you’re hoovering up sawdust or something. I bought a bunch years ago and haven’t been through them yet. Also get a cheap robot hoover with lidar, it’s fucking brilliant too

I’ve had three Henry Hoovers in my life. And all three are still going strong, my original (18 years old) is used to vac up building debris, the second (12 years old) is used for my house, as it’s a filter one, and the third (brand new) is for my business premises. I’m under no illusion that these bastards will outlive me.

We have a Henry but I’m looking at Charles (his brother) so that I can properly wash my car seats by deep soaking them and sucking the water (and the dirt along with it) out, on top of the normal Henry duties Works great if you keep on top of replacing the filter bags - which are expensive but there are cheap replicas about that do the job. If you don’t refill it when you need to, he starts to really smell when using him.

I would argue that no cordless vacuum will answer. Certainly not for 150 Swiss. Rabbit hair seems to jam the mechanisms like nothing else, especially if it has a rolling sweep function on the head. I would strongly reccomend a Henry Hoover. The A10 Warthog of the vacuum world. p.s the picture is hilarious!

Seconding Henry hoovers. They’re bulky and clunky but you’ll spend the £100approx once and not have to worry about them dying. In the time I’ve had my Henry I’ve gone through three hand held dysons and a handheld shark. Neither were worth the inflated money I paid for them, the Henry however is absolutely 10/10

I had a Henry in the past and currently have a Shark. The henry was good but if you wanted to use the brushes on the head to lift up the carpet pile it can be quite hard work. It was also bulky and took up a lot of room in the under-stairs cupboard. The shark we have now is cordless and is decent and I enjoy using it. It has the head with the power-fins on it rather than a spinning brush. With this design I think it's better for hard floors rather than carpet. The fins don't do a good job of lifting the carpet pile. Without any weight keeping the head down, the head wobbles up and down if you drag the cleaner back against the direction of the pile.

Henry has much worse suction than a fancy top-of-the-range thing, but most people find them adequate. They last forever though and like the original land rovers can be fixed with very simple tools by almost anyone. All the Miele/Dyson/portable stuff we've ever had has been garbage; Henry just keeps on going. Bags cost me like £3 every 5 years or something. \+1 for Henry. The other option is to get a robot. There are whole subs for those things. If you have pets they're probably the best route - but they do require that you keep the floors cleared for them so they can run.
