If I’m being 100% honest I used to be a Dyson hater (I’ve used $1200 Miele vacuums my entire life) but my Dyson v8 cordless slaps. We have a husky who sheds like crazy. I run it on turbo all the time and it does a great job. It’s on the top end of your budget but sometimes there’s deals

All the time. My gf is a sucker for fluffy rugs, you know, the ones that look like you skinned a Wooly mammoth? The Dyson does really well on it surprisingly. I just measured it for you, the carpet has like 1.25” tall strands, so pretty fluffy. Even though I love my Miele, the Dyson beater bar is hands down the best I’ve seen for keeping hair from getting tangled in it. Their little spiral thing is amazingly designed. My ONLY gripe on that vacuum is lack of suction on low mode. I wish they would have bumped that up a notch or two, as I really don’t need 30 minutes of runtime or whatever it lasts.

Honestly it’s not bad all all. It’s got that annoying high pitched Dyson whine, but that’s just the nature of the beast. Turbo gets loud but certainly not earplugs territory lol. It still irritates me that I’m recommending this thing. I want to hate Dyson so bad 😂

Yes, being cordless and effective for what I need. They have HEPA filters, at least mine does. The no bag is a feature for some of us not a defect. It's all a tradeoff. For some the tradeoff for cordless, no bags, good suction, etal means we vacuum more than we otherwise would. I dont make a mess emptying it vs making a mess swapping bags - cause I overfill it. That's a me thing but it's a consistent me thing and I dont have to worry about it with the Dyson. I never would have thought I'd defend a near $1,000 cordless vacuum but I got one as a gift and will never buy anything different now.

I have the rechargeable #2 on the list Dyson stick and I LOVE IT! If you have carpeted stairs, it’s no challenge dealing with those. I live in a 2700 square foot cookie-cutter tract house. Avoid the V15 - repeated power/motor issues. From what I can tell, only the V8 is still recommended here.

I bought 3 of the cheap stick vacs off of Amazon for 80-120 each before finally breaking down and paying 270ish I think for a Dyson v8. I absolutely love it and think it was worth it. But the battery is complete garbage and lasts like 15 minutes. The second day I had it I bought an adapter so that I could use my husband’s Milwaukee batteries and omg!!! I have to change the battery every 2-3 days and I use it everywhere everyday. I love it. The adapter is like 30 and you can get them from any brand power tool battery I believe. I think it’s worth it personally but I’ve never had an expensive vacuum so there are probably much better options.

We had a V15 that we had to replace twice due to power failures. Apparently a lot of the new versions have a board with capacitor issues that cause it to overload and fail after regular use. We just went to a V8 because of having to replace multiple machines because of this. The V8 uses an older board and so I am hoping it doesn’t have this issue

I’ve had two. The Dyson v8 absolute. And the 10. Both are spectacular batteries have never had an issue. Have dogs and 4 girls. If you take care of them they take care of you. Clean them out once or twice a year. Sorry to hear about everyone’s bad luck. Maybe I got two well made ones not sure. But we used both daily and never had a single issue. Going on 8 yrs and they both still run great. Still same factory batteries. Old one went up to our camp when we bought the new one. Used the one at camp 3 weeks ago not a single issue. Sorry you all hate Dyson so bad but I’m on the other side on this one

Have an older upright Dyson bag less vacuum, over 15 years old and it’s good. Bought a stick vacuum a couple of years ago for quick cleaning like after kids have demolished snacks, for the car etc and it’s been awful. Barely has any power compared to the proper vacuum, charge doesn’t last long, battery died last year and I had to go in to a store to get it replaced (at charge) then got home and after one use it stopped again. Turns out it was the power adapter/cord that was stuffed, and the back and forth to get them to just post me a new cord was stupid.

I used to work at a local vac shop in Ottawa Ontario. We used to get a lot of refurbished V6s, V7s and V8s, mind you this was like 8 years ago. I got myself a V6 for upstairs ( It was like $180) and a V8 for the living room and that was about $230. i dont even know if Dyson still does the Refurbs, they still come with a one year warranty if i remember. After the one year warranty is up i would use the 3rd party batteries for the Dysons. Its cheaper and you can get 2 some times. I also got a refub Miele cannister and my wife can tell quickly if i vaccumed with the Miele instead of the Dysons. You need to have the power on high for the Dysons to suck as good as the canisters, but it kills the battery stupid quick.

The V8 is the winner in the Dyson lineup regardless of what this says. If you look side by side with all the newer models you will see they changed to an inline canister design. The new design clogs very easily. Terrible if you have pets.

I find it fascinating that rainbow isn't on here. I've never been to the vacuum sub though. Maybe I have confirmation bias because there are two of them in my family. My grandmother had one and gave it to my mother when she upgraded to a newer one. my mom has had a couple of parts changed over the years, but its easily 35+years old. My mom gave it to my sister after replacing the power cord and switch, when she upgraded. I have a feeling it will go to her oldest daughter in 20 years. My Dyson V8 Absolute definitely won't do that. I need to replace the battery and there is a crack in the handle. My 4yo loves it though, and has always loved it since he was about two. So much so that my brother in law got him a toy version of it for christmas one year and he would follow us around "cleaning". But maybe Rainbow is another one of those pyramid scam types. Edit: I did just search Rainbow on the vacuum sub. And I see where the tech is old and has been surpassed by newer canister vacs. Pretty neat. I think for me the BIFL aspect of the Rainbows my family has, have just existed for forever.

yeah i have a v8 and i have a black mouth curs dog, and 2 cats. i was fine before with hardwood floors, and any other stick vacuum….dude once i got to a carpeted place…TRASH. i had a shark professional….but didnt want the cords…annoying. i vacuum almost every other day. Dyson freaking rocked, had it nearly 4-5 years now. the hair from my dogs so thick it fills the canister up with half the living room done. I used to use the upholstery tool directly on my dog she loved it and lays down and shows me her belly when i vacuum lol. I paid 250 refurb for it originally. Dude im not kidding I was not nice to this vacuum. I beat the shit out of it. I break it down and clean it. My son broke the canister once, but i easily ordered parts and got another. I used it to suck up hundreds of dead stink bugs. but people are right on the battery….well. about a year ago they had the dyson outsize for sale cheap, used to be like 8-900. This one has the biggest bin, bigger engine, bigger wider brushes, and the best part, hot swappable batteries. Man its been glorious. Best part is all my attachments fit. My original dyson came with every single one they made. They make a specific dog one now. The dyson outsize also has automatic suction levels or its medium is good enough with a timer on how long it will last. Big improvement over v8. Like i said who cares I got 2 batteries now . Theres no other wireless vacuum ive seen that can do suction that well.

Call me crazy but my Dyson is still super strong after 4 years. Once the “beater bar” stopped working in mine, called Dyson and they told me to bring it to the Dyson repair place down the street. They gave me a whole new vacuum after 10 mins because they didn’t have a matching color brush head and didn’t want to send me home with a purple and yellow vacuum. When my cordless Dyson stopped working they did the same thing. I’m pretty lucky having an actual Dyson store down the street so I’m sure my experience is better than most, but they have taken care of me.

The ease of vacuuming with it makes me despise cord vacuums. I can never go back. On the corded front We have a Dyson Ball Animal we bought in 2021 no issues at all with 5 girls, and 3 males most with long hair which we bought while we replaced a host the kids shot a short pencil through. We also have a Dyson Multi Floor 2 (bought 2018) that the kids shot a short pencil through the curved back hose. we replaced with the newer Dyson ball while I decided to get around to fixing. I fixed it by buying that curved hose part for $18, then installed it and it is working great. We also have Dyson V8 (2018) which is great but doesn't have a long battery life on turbo. I have other family members that also have V8s except 1 which has A V10 they got at Costco which seems to be like the V10 but longer battery life. Other brands I hear good things about is Shark which Costco also carries. Unsure the hate. Over 10 Dyson vacuums in the family absolutely none of the have had issues unless we caused physical damage to it. Seems it was very easy to repair.

I had a cordless Dyson vacuum and I loved it. Someday I might buy another one. The reason I had to get rid of my previous one was not because it broke, but because the filters were no longer available for it on the Dyson website. They sell compatible filters on Amazon, but if you read the reviews, people are saying they are fake and don’t work at all, so I didn’t bother. So my suggestion to you is if you buy a Dyson vacuum, buy maybe four or five filters so that you will be able to use it for years to come. I ended up buying a Hoover vacuum and immediately regretted it because it’s very heavy and tires out my wrist and arm as I use it. Impossible to use on the stairs.

A Henry should be at the top of your list, since it's affordable and manufactured in the UK.  You can use variety of parquet brushes and the horsehair ones would be great for LVP.  A miele or Sebo would be more expensive and would come with extra bells and whistles such as self retracting cords and better ergonomics, storage.  If you need to clean rugs, you can find a turbo attachment.  These options will last you 15+ years.   If you want something cordless, Dyson fluffy rollers are good for quick pickups and won't hurt the flooring.  The V8 absolute package includes a fluffy roller and goes on sale intermittently to be within your budget.  Keep in mind while it might be a space saving option and convenient, cordless stick vacuums usually last a couple of years before big problems arise, hence why the main recommendation is for bagged, plug in vacuums.

Not exactly in the sub $200 option, but a cordless companion vacuum can be found with a mini motorized brush.  Just something to consider if you are looking to add on in the near future and can save up a little more past your budget.  The Dyson V8 absolute package goes on sale intermittently for under $300  and includes a mini tool.  I like my combo of canister vacuum and daily cordless Dyson for household upkeep.    A simple and inexpensive option would be to get an air powered turbobrush for the Miele, although their it's not as consistent as a motorized version.

I had a Dyson "stick" type vacuum. It didn't last nearly as long as the price tag suggested it should. The out of warranty repair cost was 75% of what a new one would cost so I chucked it. I replaced it with a **Hoover ONE PWR** at half the price of the Dyson. I've had it longer than I had the Dyson and it's still working great. It comes with 2 batteries so one lives on the charger, the other on the vacuum. Means I've always got a full charge. The Dyson battery was internal so you can't swap out a battery if it dies on you. I would avoid anything that's not a brand name. Before the Dyson there was a generic Amazon no-name special vacuum that I used once, packed it back up in the box, and sent it back. Absolute junk. Bad suction. Just bad all around. Some of them may be fine but I don't trust the Amazon reviews on the no-name ones. They have a "Fieety" brand stick vacuum for $159 with nearly 1000 reviews averaging 4.6 stars. Is it good? You'd think so. But I still wouldn't take a chance on it. Ironically, the vacuum I bought and have had nothing but good luck with has a very low rating on Amazon (only 3 reviews though), but it doesn't matter as it's no longer available since it's such an old model.

If you have ALL hard floors, a cordless vac with a "fluffy" head is fine. The problem is if you have any decent amount of carpet - there just isn't battery technology out there today that will provide the power needed to deep clean carpet AND a decent runtime. You have to choose one or the other or a compromise of both. Most companies choose the latter. My house is 90% carpet and I got lazy for a while and just vacuumed the whole house with my Dyson V8. After about a year, I noticed my carpet getting extremely matted. I started using my corded upright vacuums again and you would not BELIEVE what the Dyson was leaving behind.

I don't disagree as a whole home vacuum but I just ordered a V8 for doing the stairs because I'm disabled and can't carry my full size anymore. If I had the money the miele hx1 looks interesting but I don't and cheaper options are from shark with far worse longevity. Cordless vacuums have their use cases.

I work in shops, and Dyson cordless vacuums are revered. Need to vacuum up sawdust and aluminum chips and plastic shavings and metal filings? The Dyson will do it. Sharks and similar seem to break in a month or two. The power tool branded vacs are tougher but don’t work as well. The only downside is the batteries, but you can buy a DeWalt or Milwaukee adapter and never worry about it again.

I can't recommend one, but I can say that my Dyson stick vac, besides not sucking well, makes an insanely loud screaming sound, whereas the Miele C3 I just bought to use instead, is much quieter, particularly on the lower settings (where it still creates more suction than the Dyson). Oh and it filters the exhaust air better. Something to consider with a baby..

I've got both the Lg A9 and V8. Honestly they both do a good job on my hard floors, I get vacuuming done twice as fast as my corded Electrolux.  But take the motorised head off and try to vacuum window sills, baseboards, curtains and the lack of suction power becomes very obvious.  Battery life is ok for me, I get at least 30mins and it's enough for me to cover 100sqm of flooring.  Does require more maintenance than traditional canisters but I can live with that.

They’re all good. I think the Dyson V8 is the cheapest one. But by cheap I mean it’s still like $450. I have an old V8 and a newer V11 which is kind of in the middle for their cordless ones. Stronger suction, but even the V8 is fantastic. And I’ve had it for years and years. They’re crazy expensive but worth it. I’ve never had a Dyson break, ever. I have one of their upright ball vacuums and it’s been going strong for over a decade. As long as you open it up and clean it periodically they’ll last forever.

I’ve actually recently been trying a few lightweight cordless vacuums (Dyson V8, Shark IZ202, and the Hoover HF9 from Hoover Direct). Here’s what I’ve noticed: * Weight: The Hoover HF9 is around 2.5kg, which makes it noticeably easier to carry up the stairs compared to the Shark (heavier and bulkier). * Battery: One thing I liked about the Hoover is that the battery is removable. If you’ve got a bigger home, you can grab a spare and double the runtime, whereas Dyson’s older models don’t have that option. * Suction & floor types: Dyson still seems slightly better on raw suction, but the Hoover did a great job on hard floors and my living room rug. * Price: The Hoover came in cheaper than Dyson but felt more sturdy than some of the budget options I tested which is always a bonus! Thought I would share my thoughts here and hopefully help!

My Miele corded vacuum has lasted for over almost 15 years. Some of the attachments look worn down, but they still work very well. I also have a Roomba and a Dyson cordless vacuum, but I don’t feel like it’s a fair comparison, since battery packs degrade over time. I’ve had to replace the battery pack for the Dyson, and my Roomba seems like it runs out of juice noticeably faster than before.

I did not have reddit before buying a dyson but signed up just to warn others. It's a beautiful machine.... that works for a year and then breaks (at least the cordless one) But what makes it worse is for a "premium product" the customer service is up there in the worst I have received. My vacuum broke a month ago (it's only a year old and still under 'warrenty'). \- I have been 30 days without a vacuum (it will probably be 45-60 by the time it's sorted) \- I have spent over 6-8 hours with customer service PS. I reached out on every other channel to give them an opportunity to rectify/ sort this out and they wouldn't do anything about it. Which is why I am here warning everyone else haha I would only every by one again at Costco where you can return it right away. I bought directly from dyson and there is no honor or care for customers when working directly with them .

We have Dyson, Miele and Henry. Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Henry is the work horse for cleaning the log burner, mud, brick, sick. You can chuck anything at him but he falls over a lot.

For the past 8 years, I used to like a shop vac of sorts in my basement (lots of fur). I’ve had one since then, still running well, it’s probably 10 years old. First a not on self empty systems. They are sort of a gimmick. Firstly, they usually can do a basic empty of the container but they are not effective at cleaning the internal filters of the stick vac, that still has to be done really regularly yourself. And many self empty systems are themselves bagless, which means you have an additional 2 or 3 filters to clean. Bringing the total maintainence burden up to 2 dust containers, 2 mesh screens, and up to 5 or 6 filters you have to clean every couple weeks yourself! In other words, they're often more trouble than they are worth. Secondly, no cordless vac is going to match the suction and durability of a corded vac. With that in mind, and if you're good with it lasting about 5ish years, here's what I'd look at. Models from LG, including their own self empty model which at least uses bags, so there's nothing to clean on the station. Dyson have a pretty poor reputation for reliability now, but if you can tolerate very poor customer support, models like the v11 are still decent. V8 is a good more budget end choice. Miele duoflex or triflex models are great choices too, better quality than the others I think with good performance, but pricy and with fairly small bin capacity. Avoid no-name or bizzarely named models on Amazon, avoid bissell, hoover, dirt devil, shark, tineco, etc.

Avoid generic cordless vacuums. They are worse performing than even old models from established brands. They have zero after sales support. They have poorer quality battery packs which fail within a couple years. The price is false economy, and tons of the reviews on these are fake. Look for a dyson v8.

"An alternative to the iPhone is a Samsung" ....Well, Samsung also makes vacuums. So does LG. Both of their sticks vac ranges are pretty good all around. Shark is hit or miss. But as other people have said, the v15 isnt really all that. A Samsung or LG is likely to outlast a v15, so in that way they aren't really equivalent. As others have pointed out, if you really want to clean, a corded vac is world's better. And you could save yourself the money and get a cheaper v8 for quick pickups and save the real cleaning for a real vac.

Not confident you could get 3 years out of the levoit or eureka. The black and decker is ear piercingly loud, probably not great for shared living environments. I'd suggest you look on ebay for a refurbished dyson v8. Dyson have their own official outlet store, and you can get a v8 for around your budget. It's going to be quieter and lower maintainence than the others, perform better, and I think 3 years out of it isn't unreasonable.

Vacuum wars does not test for durability, longevity, ease of maintainence, or availability of replacement parts. Frankly I wouldn't waste your money on either of those models. The shark has a total of 6 filters you have to clean monthly. 3 in the vac, 3 in the "self empty" base. It's a ton of maintainence. And it still won't perform well enough to be your main deep cleaning vac. If you want a stick vac for quick cleaning, something like a dyson v8 is a cheaper and better choice. And lower maintainence. Plus you can actually get replacement parts for the dyson. As for the robot option, I'd probably go ask the robot vac sub. Personally I'd avoid anything ecovacs and look at roborock or eufy. And even then, be prepared for your investment to possibly only last 5 years or so. I think nearly everyone on this sub would strongly advise that you have a proper, good corded vacuum for deeper cleaning and consider cordless and robotic models as accessories for daily upkeep.

When we bought a multi level house and had pets and small children around we wanted to "upgrade" as well. Any with a Dyson stick as they seemed to be good. We loved the portability over the old hover and thought it was great. After a few years it started to show the truth. Crumbs would fall back down the tube. Multiple passes over items would still leave them on the ground. We when went as far a getting the old Hoover back out and realized just how much the Dyson missed. That lead me down the rabbit hole of what is actually good. Ended up with Miele, it's remarkable how well it performs.

It’s just a Dyson V8 but you don’t get the wand or big floor head. The V8 is normally $200 more than the car and boat thing when both are at full retail, but I frequently see the V8 on sale for $350 and under. But if you want something that you know you’re only going to use as a handheld then I guess you don’t really need the wand and floor head. But imo if you can afford the extra just get the full V8 and have the wand and floor head if you decide later you want it.

Probably fair to also give consideration to how you use it too. I’ve had a Dyson (V8 I think) for several years with no issues. That said, I use it lightly because I have house cleaners come every other week so I’m not thoroughly vacuuming the whole house with it regularly. And I don’t expect a lightweight battery powered anything to last forever. If I wanted a tank for heavier use I’d buy the Miele everyone loves or something comparable. For what it is, the Dyson is very good.

I feel like there aren’t any bifl stick vacs because bags wouldn’t really be practical, and the better manufacturers know that bagless vacs generally don’t clean as well. FWIW, I have a sebo canister vac for intermittent deep cleans — the thing is crazy powerful, and *will* probably last forever — and a Dyson stick that I use for daily pet hair duty. 90% of the population aren’t real cleaners though and that’s fine. I have a 30 square meter flat. And I work full time, no pets etc. I just need something lightweight and that doesn’t need much space. Dyson is perfect for that.  Just because professionals don’t use something, doesn’t mean it isn’t perfect for the average person.

I've previously had a Shark Upright and now have a Dyson Stick. I think both are fine. Honestly the biggest thing that made me go with Dyson over Shark for my current vacuum is being able to maintain my vacuum. When looking online and in store it was hard to tell how I would clean the regular floor head myself with the Shark, while the Dyson is incredibly simple. Even the filter on the Dyson is washable, I don't have to replace any disposable parts all the time. If I can't maintain and clean my own cleaning tools they're doomed to be replaced sooner.

I have a Dyson V8. I bought a refurbished one on eBay (sold by Dyson) years ago and the battery just died on me last year. I used it daily (or every other day) for about 6-7 years because fur and dirt will find its way in with a pet. I just paid $40 for a new battery and swapped it out. Bad boy is stronger than ever.

> The anti-Dyson sentiment in places like a vacuum sub always feels like sock puppets shooting them down to promote their own brand or people just being opposed to what is popular. This and "enthusiests" in any given segment will be willing to give up convenience and performance. They always miss the entire point of a dyson, which is completely convenience. I don't want to lug around a bagged vacuum, I don't want to have to plug it in, dyson retains the build & performance but makes it cordless and quiet.

4yo Dyson v11 absolute in Singapore. Makes vacuumming easier, great at vacuuming mattresses and great at vacuum-packing stuff. After service is top notch. Right before the warranty expired, the plug had issues and kept bricking the motor (apparently no one at the service centre knew and they actually replaced the entire motor and battery before they figured out, so we kinda got a 'new' dyson for free lol). Recently the motor didn't work that well and my mom replaced it for $200 which wasn't that bad (when I bought it was 1k+, so still cheaper than getting a new Dyson) I also have a 2yo Dyson V8 in Canada right now, also similar to Dyson v11 in terms of functions, just slightly smaller in size and capacity. Zero issues with it. Reliability wise I think is see heng suay

100%. Pretty much veryone hates Dyson on these forums. I’d hate to lug my large Miele around with me everywhere I go to clean. I worked as a service tech on Miele and probably won’t ever buy one now. They are both designed for different situations. But the Dyson in my house gets used the most.

Yeah I worked as a vacuum tech for years and sold Miele, Sebo and Dysons, But Mieles were in for repair probably the most. All the service techs including me hated them. Way over priced and a royal pain to work on/get parts. The Dyson cordless that that I’ve owned for six years now has worked flawlessly and still gets 40 minutes on charge easily. And also for all the Dysons I’ve recommended to people through the years have all worked amazing. Dyson blows the competition away when it comes to innovation, and the overall product experience, especially the cordless game. Will never go back from Dyson. I do really like Sebo! Just expensive and hate bags/low portability.

I highly recommend getting a refurbished one for much cheaper or even a used one for cheap. The new prices are kind of outrageous. There's a website called slick deals where they have the v11 on sale with a 2-year warranty as refurbished by Dyson for $250. This is a good deal! Just make sure not to drop the thing and to always leave it laying on the ground when not in use as they are very plasticky and can break. And don't use it on its high setting unless really necessary as it deteriorates the motor and battery life. And remember to clean the filters roughly once a month I don't recommend the V10. I recommend either the V8 for how lightweight it is or the v11 for its easy empty function. I would not recommend the V12 because it's connections and accessories aren't interchangeable with other Dyson V-series vacuums. Same with any other "slim" variants. Also note that the V6 had completely different attachments than all the other models. I' own three Dyson stick vacuums and recommended them to family and friends and they all love them as well. In my opinion, the V8 was an excellent combination of good suction, lightweight and cheap. Also starting with the v11, some variants of the v11 have click-in batteries that you can easily exchange with another one. But most of the v11 series has permanently affixed batteries that you have to remove with a screwdriver. Also want to add the vast majority of this subreddit is against Dyson vacuums and they're pro corded bagged vacuums. No need to pay more for the laser soft fluffy head when you can get a laser attachment on Amazon for like $20. Or AliExpress for like $5 I believe the best one is named "Bahuun dust cleaner display led" I definitely would not recommend paying a lot more for the v15 or Gen5. The benefits do not outweigh the increase in cost in my opinion.

I didn't think so, but I've only used their stick vacuum. It had issues, and when I was in the market for a new vacuum 5-6 years ago I had a couple of friends and also a couple of local vacuum shops recommending I avoid Dyson. I decided to go with a Mielle canister instead. I have two huskies and it does a great job with all surfaces. The canister is very light and not clunky at all to pull around (which was my biggest worry). I'd recommend checking this brand out if you're unsure about Dyson.

I currently have 2 Dyson V8 vacuum cleaners, one for upstairs one for downstairs. Mix of wood/vinyl plank flooring with a couple area rugs. I have been using these since the year they came out. I've replaced the batteries twice. Something else is wrong because even with new batteries I get very little use at max and on regular it doesn't pick up cat hair anymore, much less anything else. It doesn't help that my spouse just leaves them not plugged in. I've found them outside because he vacuumed his car and just left it outside. I want corded this time, because no matter how proactive I try to be, the vacuum is never charged when I have time to clean. I always have to go find it somewhere even though there are multiple shop vacs in the garage. It can't be stick shaped, it has to be less convenient than that so my spouse doesn't leave it in the yard. I'm very open to buying a refurbished used one. Something that maybe hides the crevice tool in the compartment? Literally, the crevice tool is never put away. I don't want my spouse to know it even has a crevice tool so it doesn't get used for his car. We have 5 cats and 2 pomeranians and need to be able to vacuum daily. Before you come for me, the cats are his. My dogs are professionally groomed on a schedule and barely shed because they get deshedded at the groomer. The bulk of the issue is cat hair. Bonus points if it comes in a girly color that will prevent it getting used in the garage or yard. Budget - sub $500 for used refurbished- BUT, I can afford better so if there's a really, really good reason to go with a used one that is $750 ish, tell me about it.

I commonly see the claim that cordless vacuum cleaners cannot clean carpet adequately. To be clear, aside from the claim being entirely too general, there is no study or test that has proven that they do not clean carpet or hard floors effectively. In fact, we have reason to believe the opposite through observable performance. I think it is about time we stop peddling false or misleading claims on here. It takes away from valid criticisms of modern cordless vacuum cleaners. With that said, there are cordless stick models that are up to the task in performance and some that are not. I would avoid cheap, no-name ones off Amazon, for example. Most of them have the power of a DustBuster and are of shameful quality. There are some brands that are worth a look, though. If you can find them for something in or near your price range, Dyson makes the V8, V10, V11, and V12 that would work for your situation and be relatively close to your price range. Costco sometimes has great deals on them. The older models like the V8 and V10 fall quite a bit below the newer ones and some other brands in suction and airflow, but should be fine with hard floors and area rugs. LG cordless vacuum cleaners are also solid next to the competition, with models such as the CordZero and CordZero Kompressor that are on [LG's website](https://www.lg.com/us/vacuum-cleaners). Samsung also has an intelligent design department and sells powerful models such as the Jet 75, Jet 85, and Jet 90. I am partial to the LG models since I have more experience with them and they seem to hold up to abuse fairly well, but Samsung sells a fine unit too.

Couldn’t agree more. People here love their bagged corded vacuum that run for 20 years. But most of them aren’t as fast and efficient to clean my floors than my 7 year old Dyson V8. I love seeing what I vacuum up, it’s so satisfying. Cleaning the filters is an easy once a season task, I never have to buy bags, and with an after market battery upgrade - I get 15 mins of max cleaning / or an hour of standard mode cleaning - more than enough to clean my apartment.

I have a few Dyson cordless (V8, V10, and V11). I don't think they are worth anywhere near retail price, and I've only ever bought mine on Marketplace for well below (still NIB). The trigger on my V11 broke, but I managed to install an aftermarket replacement that I got from Amazon. Aside from that, they've worked well for me. However, I am only ever sweeping dust and dog fur from hardwood and tile. It's probably the easiest job for a vacuum. These are lightweight machines for lightweight use. Basically just very expensive "dust busters." I've never owned one of the corded models.

The problem is not that the battery runs out during normal use, it's that EVERY SINGLE TIME you use max suction mode, it shortens the life of the battery. The user manual might say to only use max suction mode in short bursts, but it still doesn't change the fact that max suction mode is so bad for the battery that it shouldn't even be an option.

I can say the Miele C1,2, and 3 bags or like $45 for the XL ones and it’s 8 bags or for you, a year supply. though you might only go through 5-6 cause they do compact the dust pretty well. And it comes with 2 pre motor filters and 2 post motor filters. So you get to change it’s primary filter every time you change bags, the pre motor filter which is what keeps the motor clean and running for a long time every 4 bags and the post motor filter which is the the last stand filter for anything that might have made it through every 4 bags. Also air flowing through a MERV 13 filter several times is the equivalent to a hepa filter cause they filter the same .3 micron particles and hepa filters 99% and MERV 13 filters 75-85%. So this would be close if not better than “hospital grade filtration.” And if you must they sell a hepa grade post motor filter as well for most models. So bagged would be great for your needs, and for an extra $45 you get a machine that will last at least twice if not up to four times as long as any baggless vacuum. I also own a Dyson stick for the past 2 years and my dad owns a Dyson animal ball for the past 15 years and they work pretty darn well. Shark might not last as long but the don’t leak dust either and is cheaper from what I’ve seen so its also is a viable option. Best of luck!!

I had the V6 and the V8 and I don’t know why I kept coming back for the punishment: fatigue and pain when hiding that poorly-designed trigger and handle, the terrible battery life, and the occasional moment when bumping the vacuum caused the stupidly-designed bin lid to pop open and spray all of its contents on the floor and my clothes were nails in those vacuums coffins.

It happened with alarming frequency. The catch is too easily bumped open, and the way it's set up, if this happens when the vacuum is running, the entire contents that are dumping out are blown all over the place by the placement of the exhaust vents. I've always found them to be hype. Used to have a Dyson corded that I got from my dad second hand. it was good, until I decided to replace it with a Shark corded. The first time I used the shark, you'd have thought I'd never hoovered the carpet, honestly the amount of engrained hair and dust it pulled out was insane in comparison to the Dyson which looked like it was doing a good job, it's not that it didn't pick anything up but I would say the recovery rate was probably 65% in comparison to the shark. I then bought the shark stick handheld and was using that but when I split with my ex it stayed at the house. My new partner has a Dyson V8 and it's crap in comparison, there is stuff I know my shark would of picked up easily and the Dyson struggles. I also have a V7 my dad gave me which I just replaced the battery on as that had got to the point where it would only run for 30seconds before switching off so will see how it is with the new battery but tbh don't hold high hopes.

I’ve had a Dyson V8 for 10+ years, main vacuum (hardwood floors and low pile rugs) and replaced the battery once. It doesn’t do our whole house without a charge, no big deal. There is one guy in particular (that I’ve noticed) that posts negative comments about Dyson and I just skip over his comments because it’s repetitive and I’ve found it to be untrue. We now have a Miele canister vac as well and don’t love it.

I’ve had a Dyson V8 for the past 10 years or so and it’s great. We’ve replaced the battery one time. I’ve also had a Miele C3 and a handful of uprights in that time that don’t get as much use. While we have a Sebo Felix on order, the Dyson is probably always going to be our go-to.

I have the Dyson v8. I also have a miele. It’s just 2 different use cases. A stick is perfect for small spaces and ease of use. My v8 is probably 8 years old? I replaced the filter and battery with 3rd party materials and it’s got fantastic suction, will run for 20 mins on full and just as powerful as miele on “normal” setting. Less so then Miele on full power - but in fairness, can barely the Miele on full power plus then it “jumps” over dirt, so rarely use it.

I also have pets and got a Miele C1 Cat and Dog. The suction is fantastic, but due to the fur tumbleweeds and tracked in dirt, I vacuum every other day or so. For that I find myself reaching for my backup Dyson stick - the canister is just too much of a pain for a quickie rug pass. Miele is the weekly “CLEAN ALL THE THINGS” tool. So if you are a chronic vaccunmer, I’d suggest either getting a Miele (or comparable) stick vac, or if you go canister, get a cheap backup for quickie fur jobs.

Dyson v8 absolute is a great option if you want something quiet, lightweight and convenient. Use the fluffy head on the floors and the regular motorhead on carpets/ area rugs. I specialize in Dyson and sell 60+ cordless models a week here. I’d still take a Miele any day though if you want reliability.

I got an older cordless dyson for free and thought i hit the jackpot. charged it and it only ran for 30 seconds. no problem just bought a new battery for $30. ran pretty well until the brush stopped turning 2 months later. cleaned it, completely disassembled it and nothing. my parents had a kenmore bag canister they didn’t want. i kid you not my carpet changed color. i had no idea how much gunk was missed by my dyson. and the canister came with a bunch of different brushes and accessories and different floor settings. i will never use a cordless stick vac again no matter how much people rave about the dyson. they die pretty quickly and aren’t as durable and multipurpose.

Dyson isn't what they used to be. I use one of their sticks at work. It was great initially but I've been watching it literally fall apart over the last few years (first the dust canister kept coming apart, then one of the wheels fell off, then the button that holds the stick in fell off). It gets a little abused, but it's not exactly tossed around. The suction is good. Everything else leaves something to be desired. Your money is probably better spent elsewhere.

4 years for a vacuum is terrible value for money ae. Expectations are so low these days for product longevity. Dyson are supposed to be the most premium vacuum, and it lasts about a year before it starts going down hill. After that you have to buy cheap Chinese battery adapter's to even use them. The filters are impossible to wash, and suction is below average.

There’s no single vac that does it all except for maybe a super heavy super expensive traditional canister like a Miele. For an everyday hard floor vac (and light carpet vac) the best is Levoit on Amazon that's about $200. It's a Dyson-like machine that overcomes a lot of the longtime design issues with Dysons (such as, it can stand up by itself -- what a concept). But we also keep the Dyson around for a more aggressive carpet vac when we need it. We also have a Eureka boss -- powerful and dependable small canister vac. And a monster shop vac in the basement. Dysons are great but they're really expensive and their air filtering system is overly complicated and tends to lose efficiency. If you own a Dyson, watch all the available Youtubes on how to clean it with pressurized air so you can keep it running. Given the competition from newer manufacturers like Levoit, I think it's going to be harder for Dyson to justify selling floor vacs for close to $1000.

My experience with Dyson stick. Worked ok first time. Next time wouldn’t work on high, cleaned it out, washed filter, let it dry 24 hours. Next day, won’t work oh high, barely works on medium, low is worthless. Cleaned again, washed filter, let it dry 24 hours. Next time high won’t work, medium pulses and barely sucks. So basically I vacuum carpet, litter gets pushed around room, when I turn off vacuum everything it has collected falls onto floor and I vacuum it up with a hand held ryobi. In researching Dyson problems, best advice on how to fix a Dyson was to throw it out and get something else. Good luck.

If you want BIFL , just get the sebo e1 or K1. 10 year warranty. The cheapest vacuums at Costco are more than $150 (at least the ones which are worth getting). I got a Dyson v8 or (v7) like 5 years ago from Costco. Had to change the battery once which Dyson mailed me a new battery. Even then with full charge it’ll last like 20 mins max now. I would say that the v8 or v15 dysons are the only vacuums that I’d even consider at Costco. But at their price, I could get a bagged, plugged in vacuum like a Sebo e1 or k1

Levoit LVAC 300 cordless $269 on Amazon. I have 2 huskies and all hardwood floors. My Dyson V8, which clogged all the time, bit the dust. This vacuum is 10x better than the Dyson. While the canister isnt any bigger, it is easier to empty (it comes completely off the vacuum) and hasnt clogged yet. It has a battery % display, 3 power settings, a fantastic crevice tool, lightweight and solidly built, and has a light. I didnt think the light was a big deal but when you vacuum with the overhead lights off, you see ALL the doggie hair. The vacuum also stands up on its own. I vacuum our upstairs which is roughly 1300 sf on low power and have tons of battery life left. At low power, it picks up all dog hair and anything they track in. Since the vacuum is so light, vacuuming stairs isnt a problem. Highly recommend!

I really like my iRobot roomba. I have a Saint Bernard and 2 cats, and it makes my life a little easier not having to vacuum all the time. That being said, I also use my Dyson V8 every couple of days and before I mop. I've had the iRobot for a year now and the Dyson for 5. I only have wood floors and a few area rugs and I find that this combo works really well. I think I got lucky because a lot of people hate these products, but I think I got good ones. Im pretty picky about these things, too. I also very regularly clean out my dyson and iRobot, so I think thats what helps keep up its performance. One hack though that my aunt taught me, after you vacuum your hardwood floors, go around the edges with a swiffer to get that last bit of dust left in the corners. I just walk the perimeter of my house with it and it makes a huge difference, especially with pets. If anyone has any other stick vacuum recommendations, I'm all ears. I wanted to get a second one and tried that viral tik tok one, Himika or something, and ill tell you rn it works super awesome for a week and then its done. Dont get that one.

Yes, but you need to remember to always return it to the charger, otherwise it will be dead all the time & frustrating when you want to use it. The nice thing about Dysons, too, is a new battery is extremely affordable, so if the battery dies, you can replace it for under $40. If I’m paying a premium for a product then I need to know I can communicate with the company and get support if I have any issues with it.

Yep. I got lucky and got a good Dyson V8 6 years ago. I’ve replaced the battery twice with a cheap aftermarket brand from Amazon and it’s worked just as well as the original battery. Based on Dysons now-atrocious customer service, I will never buy a new product from them. I really love my V8 but I’ll probably get an equivalent Shark next time around.

I think you have had some trauma from older vacuums regarding batteries. Modern vacuums will last double that without losing too much power. It is no different than laptops. Those batteries used to die or be useless in 3-4 years but these days 5-6 is easily achieved, same for phones, and vacuums aren't discharged and recharged nearly as often. To illustrate, my 4 year old Philips vacuum has lost 0 of its charging capabilities. And while I agree that Dyson has good suction, they are reliability nightmares. I had two. I replaced the first after 3 years because it just stopped performing and no amount of cleaning did anything to change that. The second developed the same issues in about 2 years. I managed to convince support to send me a new motor but by then I was so pissed off with the brand (expensive and unreliable are a hateful combo) that I will never buy Dyson again (much of their stuff looks fancy but are outright scams). My Philips 8000 is as mentioned 4 years old and it has lost some of its suction power but will run about 40 minutes on a charge, same as when I bought it. Not super enthusiastic about the suction performance going down in 4 years but it has been better in pretty much every way compared to the Dyson (which refused to hoover up any of the cat litter on the floor eventhough it had much better suction, and it was FAR quieter too). Never again Dyson. Look up Dyson and Scam on Youtube and watch a few vids before you buy anything.

Go to Walmart and buy the Hart $100 stick vacuum. I have had 2 dysons and while they're nice the batteries are trash. I have tried factory and cheap replacements, and not much difference. Bought a cheap Walmart one for the garage and it worked great. Battery lasts forever. It works so well that the Dyson has gone to garage and the hart stays in the house. I've had it for 3 years now, still original battery working just fine. I'd get a year tops out of a Dyson battery. Dyson wins the looks award, but Hart beats it in performance.

Could be a case of they don't build them like they used to. Bought the original entry level yellow Dyson back in the day. Ran good for about a decade. The beater stopped working and we gave it away. Replaced with a Kirby. Bought a V8 Animal stick vacuum when they first came out and the battery died about 2 years ago. Got a kit from Amazon to convert it to my DeWalt tool batteries. Runs great. Recently the door for the waste broke a clip. Now we just tape it up. Not sure what I will replace it with.

I bought one of their stick vacuums and the battery died in less than a year. Couldn't just send me a new battery, sent me an entire unit and all the accessories. That one died even faster but they wouldn't replace it as it was "outside the original warranty period". They offered me a discount and I said never again. Found this sub and bought a Miele. For all hard floors you don't need a spinning brushroll and it actually makes the vacuum noisier. I'd avoid the Bissell and most bagless vacuums because they're very loud. I agree with u/totpot, bagged canister vacuums are the quietest. No brushroll, bagged and more sound insulation make they very quiet. Like a fan on medium-high speed quiet. The Miele C1 Pure Suction $319-350 are very good for hard floors, super quiet but powerful, and they have an automatic rewinding cord. The Soniclean Whisper Jet C2 $250 is also very quiet. Good canister vacuums easily last over 10 years. If you want a cordless stick vacuum look for a vacuum with a soft brushroll. The stiffer brushroll will make noise hitting a hard floor surface and it isn't needed for smooth surfaces. The Dyson V8 is above average for cordless vacuums. Look for a model with the fluffy motor head. Downsides are cordless vacuums have a very short run time on high power like 8-12 minutes, and I don't like that you have to hold the trigger on a Dyson. The LG CordZero is a good cordless vacuum and many models come with 2 batteries and a charging stand for the same price as a Dyson. But finding a model with the soft brushroll powerhead is limited. Most better cordless vacuums have digital motors and have a high pitch that's louder than a canister vacuum, but not as loud as a bagless upright vacuum. Cordless vacuums offer convenience but their batteries wear out in 2-5 years.

I recommend cordless vacuums that have removable & replaceable batteries, easy-to-clean bins, and replacement parts available. Dysons are definitely ok, but you pay extra for the name. The Dyson V8 and V12 Detect Slim are the best vacuums with a good weight balance. I really like the LG CordZero. It has removable batteries and many models come with 2 batteries and a charging stand. I'm not confident of the dual brushroll powerhead because most dual powerheads tend to make more problems. It is getting harder to find a model with the 2 separate powerheads but that's my preference. Some of the Dreame vacuums with auto-empty bins look to be good budget values. Parts availability isn't as good as Dyson or LG but they cost less and come with a lot of accessories. If you have most or all carpets, don't forget the Hoover Onepwr Hepa Cordless Bagged Upright $189. This is a battery powered Oreck Elevate and it's great for carpets.

Between the 2 vacuums I'd go for the Dyson V8. Bissell cordless vacuums have mediocre suction and their batteries wear out quickly. Bissells have have high msrps and they're always on sale so $160 isn't a great deal, it's what you should normally pay for it. I would choose the LG CordZero A925 $265 over the Dyson V8. The LG comes with 2 batteries and a charging stand. The LG's bin is easier to clean because the cyclones are removable.

r/VacuumCleaners • Is Dyson worth the price over Bissell (cordless). ->

I like the LG CordZero, it has removable and replaceable batteries, the cyclones are removable and easy to clean, and many models come with extra accessories and a charging stand. The LG CordZero Q3 C5323B0 $269 (LG's website), which comes with 1 battery, 2 tools, and a wall mount. The LG CordZero with Auto Empty Bin/Charger A931KWM $349 (lowes). The Dyson V8 Absolute $329 (dyson's website). The V8 is a good balance of weight and bin size. It has good suction. Downside is you cannot remove and wash the cyclones so they can build up dust and odors. It's an established model so there are a lot of aftermarket batteries available. A very affordable alternative is the Simplicity S60 Spiffy $129. This is a large stick vacuum with no brushroll so there's no hairwrap on this vacuum. It has a long 30 ft. cord and the suction power is strong, I use the low power for rugs, and high power for hard floors. The bin is bigger than a cordless vacuum's. Downside is it only has one crevice tool and it's not useful because the upper handle is not removable. What do you think?

I’m on my second Dyson v-8. The first one lasted five years, which was good enough for me, considering the price & the intense use. Two dogs (one a husky), two cats, and my thick, long hair. I vacuum daily, hardwoods and carpet. I have a TBI that’s triggered by noise and bending/pushing/lifting anything over a few pounds. The v-8 has been great for me. (I only use “max” on one indoor/ourtdoor rug - it’s loud on that setting). It’s far from the newest Dyson so not too pricey. I don’t have the pet hair one bc the regular works well enough. Cleaning it regularly makes a huge difference too.

I've had or have all 3 (well a V7 instead of a V8/V9) Tineco: It cleaned ok but you have to service the pre motor filter after every use. And really flimsy. The battery catch broke on normal use, I returned it after a month or so and got a V15 instead on sale. V8 vs V15: Get the V8 if you are stuck between the two. I've had less issues (maintenance) and it is seemingly the same power when you run it on max mode. Which is what you gotta do with either to effectively clean carpets. Still have the v7 but the handle cracked (DIY repair) & I had to convert it to run on dewalt drill batteries as the factory battery died. But... Like the general consensus around here is going to be, look at Miele, Sebo, or Lindhaus if you really want a machine that will clean your floors. Yes they have bags, but that is a good thing. The cord thing admittedly isn't fun to deal with. The "bags cause suction loss" is nothing but a Dyson marketing ploy. Maybe 20 years ago before bag tech improved. Now they only lose suction when completely full. Trust me (and most on here..) on this, the bags are a ton less maintenance than bagless models, and you aren't exposing yourself to all the dirt and dust when you dump it. You gotta dump the bagless when it gets about half full, or you'll really have fun cleaning the machine out. For instance, my house would take 4-5 dumps per each floor cleaning (1700 sq ft or 160 m2), but get about a month out of a bag doing the whole house (3400 sq ft/ 320m2)

Lots to unpack there, gonna try to keep it short. Miele's have the (or one of the) most expensive bags/filters. If recurring costs are a consideration, look at Sebo and Lindhaus units too. Get the powered brush roller, then wait and see on extra accessories if you actually need them. Bags: Generally speaking a box a bags will last you \~ 1 year Any bagless machine is going to have lots of maintenance, or a very short lifespan... None of them are going to perform well on low/medium settings for carpet. In my limited experience with them, Dyson's don't clog the filters often, but the cyclones can get stinky (pet stink), and they are almost impossible to clean out (gotta disassemble, you'd better be very well versed in technical matters and have the right tools). After my Dyson experiences I would consider either the LG L9, or possibly the Henry Cordless, as it has bags. LG L9 has a removable cyclone assembly for easy cleaning; the Henry you should have minimal maintenance because it has bags. Unless you want to wash filters after every use, stay away from the 'budget' models. Personally I have a Dyson V7 (V8), and a V15. I would strongly suggest the V8 over the V15. Less/easier maintenance, and the V7 has never gotten stinky unlike the much newer V15. Performance wise I can't tell a difference, when in max mode. (the auto detect mode on V15 is admittedly nice) Battery life: Just don't expect you can use any cordless to really clean, quick pickups are where they shine. Performance wise, to come anywhere near close to a good corded unit you need to run it on 'max' mode, which generally equates to \~10min worth of use.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I have 2, 7, and 18.  I think I paid $60 for all three at yard sales. Kenmore Elite is wonderful for bedrooms. Dyson v8 is great for busy areas and stairs. Dyson ball animal is for a deeper clean than the v8. I also have a Hoover Hepa Animal 2 and the Hoover Max Extract Pressure-Pro (Model 60) from Breaking Bad. Great combo for deep clean after dealing with animal messes. Kenmore is the poor man’s Miele. Dyson is repairable, but a pain in the butt for the vortex areas to keep clean. Hoovers are stupid simple to keep in tip top shape. I have a simple Dirt Devil and Harbor Freight shop vacuum for my garage. Both are great for regular use.

They definitely don't clean as well as a proper vacuum, and I say that wanting one myself, but not being able to justify the cost. They do well with hard floors, and just well enough with carpet to call it sufficient for regular cleanings, but for everyone I know with one, they still have their corded vacuum. I've used my parents' a lot around holidays when I'm there, and it's the preferred option for light to medium duty cleanup, which is why it's top of list here. Dyson has a pretty poor build quality, though. It's like Bose - they make *decent* products, but there are better options for less money, they just advertise the most. The brand new $500 Dyson I was given was nowhere near on par with my $500 Miele in design, performance, or build quality.

I just asked about how often I’d be buying bags for a sebo with two high shedding large dogs, (similar probably too a gsd and 3 (if long hair cats) I would probably be replacing the bag every week. (Actually more than that because I didn’t tell people I also have 3 cats haha) Someone with a husky commented that they replace the bag 1.5-2 times a month. Calculating that cost for two dogs is another 210 a year in bags (probably more for me) I am taking that into account with  replacing a vacuum that died (Dyson) but it doesn’t have a bag or a Sebo that has a 10 year warranty but I will have probably bought 2-3 dysons in that time period with the amount I’d be spending on bags. I haven’t decided yet 🙃 but thought I’d share the numbers.

Happy wife happy life. Ignore the folks saying just get the C1. I'd get a dyson she likes (older V8 should be fine and your price range) or one of the cordless sticks recommended here. Canisters can be a PITA to deal with compared to a stick. 80% hard floors and area rugs? Just about anything will do but nothing will clean the hard floors better than a swiffer wet jet or bona mop. So spend $30 bucks on one of those and then just get whatever the wife likes....

I actually own two Dyson stick vacuums. “WHAT!?!? UNCLE GURM, SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!” Yep, it’s true! I have a venerable v8 that takes cat hair off of stuff like nobody’s business, and a digital slim (made from v12 parts) that does my daily quick pickups and is on upstairs duty. I wouldn’t clean a house with them. But a car? Sure. An RV? Absolutely. Here’s the scoop - the v8 is tried and true. It has a million accessories. It’s cheap. Just buy one. The v12… well, it has replaceable batteries, and in every other way it’s inferior. More money. Less accessories. Smaller dust cup, bad dust cup design! The digital slim was a $200 super deal on Black Friday and … it’s nowhere near as good as the v8, I wouldn’t recommend paying real prices for it. The v8 will, however, not make your home clean. It spews dust into the air, has to be cleaned far more often than you’d like, and generally is just not a full time vacuum. Which is too bad, because it sounds like that’s what you need. You can use it for a while for your purpose though.

In another life I was a Kirby service tech and I serviced machines on a number of occasions > 40-50 years old. At the time they had parts available for all machines. They ARE expensive (and the sales process leaves a lot to be desired) but are generally built like tanks. If there's a weak point, it's the fan. Even if it is Lexan, hard/heavy enough debris (eg bolts) can shatter the blades. The nice thing about the design is that instead of putting the bag inline with the fan, the bags fill from the top so it's able to maintain airflow. We have one (though it was a gift) but generally use our Dyson cordless day to day.

Dyson batteries are low quality from what I've seen to begin with. Our v8 absolute that we bought years ago didn't make it two years before it'd last 5 minutes in low. Dad's v11 battery lasts about 10 minutes on a full charge on low after 2 years. I bought him an lg that has two batteries, as my lg despite it's flaws is 3 years old, and still holds a solid charge

Honestly as an ex appliance engineer, the cordless Dysons are great for use but terrible when something goes wrong. We used to just write them off if it was anything more than a blockage. Dyson are also very difficult to deal with to get parts etc.

I didn't mean consumer end I meant b2b they were difficult to deal with i.e. sourcing the parts for the customer and general support.

I've a Dyson V8. Great at picking up animal fur. I'm sure there is a more recent model, I just bought the same model my mum had in a home with 4 cats, but it does the job well.

I bought two dysons thinking they were the best. Canister vacuum motor burnt out right after the two year warranty. Stick vacuum battery died, which was fine to replace but still annoying. We’ve been limping along with just the stick vacuum for two years now brutal!

Shark cordless vacuum cleaners are not a type I would recommend. For the price, they have things about them that make them worse than a lot of the competition such as poor build quality and single cyclones. As for cordless, Dyson and LG, and sometimes Samsung, still make the leading mainstream ones in the United States. For Dyson, the V11 to current models are the best on carpet. The V8 is affordable, but lacks the run time and overall power to do a stellar job on carpet, at least in my opinion. Something such as the V15 smokes the heck out of a V8 and even a V10. Even the V12 is decent enough and good if you want something little and lightweight while still being powerful. Dyson stick vacuum cleaners are the easiest to use and the best design for domestic use  IMO.   I had a miele in the past, and dragging around a cleaner on little wheels and replacing bags is terrible: I don't care how long they last.

I think I’ve had my Dyson cordless for longer than five years. I had to replace the battery once. I was told if you are constantly using it on Max, it will go through batteries like candy

🧹 Broom.and mop are the best . I put a few drops of Clorox and a few drops of dawn to a bucket 🪣 full of warm water( 🧤 )😂 I have a cordless shark vacuum for over 8 years now and it works just fine I also have a cordless Dyson for the days that I don't feel like grabbing the dustpan We are really making our life harder with so many artifacts and I am guilty of that

I made the switch from a bagless upright Dyson and a stick Dyson to a Kenmore Pop N Go canister, based on the advice of this sub. I could not be happier. I have three shed monster Australian Shepherds that have killed several Dysons over the years. I am THRILLED not to have to stop and empty the Dyson every 5 minutes. Changing the bag on the Kenmore is a lot less messy than emptying the bin on the Dyson. I wish I bought a canister 20 years ago. The canister is much easier to use on the stairs. It works miracles on cleaning my blinds, which the Dyson was absolutely useless for. It actually gets my carpets clean, which the Dyson failed to do after about a year. Also, the Kenmore is a hell of a lot quieter than my Dyson.

It’s just a v8 minus the wand etc... If you can find a better deal on a normal v8 then go for that. It’s not that powerful (it’s an old model) so I find using a v8 to actually vacuum a car tedious, an using it max mode will destroy the battery

I’m surprised to see you say Dyson is difficult for parts. I’ve been buying their cordless vacs for 10+ years and any time I need a part they either overnight for free or they charge a fair price.

I’ve only had 2 over the 10+ years. Someone broke my first one and then I replaced it with a newer model.

I have a cordless dyson for 7 years. The battery crapped out halfway through but the batteries for powertools(which we have) also fits. So we use those. Now I dont know if the original battery is shit or not because I dropped the vacuum mulitple times so that might be my fault. But hey after dropping it so many times, it still works!!

I love my Dyson. Works well, I’ve had it for 4 years and have done zero maintenance to it. Sleek and easy to use. Mine is cordless and I find I use it more often because it’s easy to just whip out and then put it away. Is it the most powerful vacuum? Probably not, but I don’t need that. I have a cleaning service that comes by biweekly. I’m more about convenience and spot cleaning when needed. They have sales often so definitely keep checking for one so you don’t have to pay full price.
