I couldn't find that many opinions online so I thought I'd throw in my two cents. A bit of background, I'm a bit of a headphone enthusiast but nothing crazy - my main headphones are the the HD650, HD620s, and previously the AKG K701. I use the Etymotic er3xr on the go in addition to some random wireless Sony bluetooth earbuds. I also have the Bose QC45. I bought the OpenFit 2+ as an upgrade over the OpenFit Air which I currently own as a pair of cheap(ish) open headphones for situations where I'd like to hear the environment outside. To be honest the old OpenFit Air are kinda bad but they are cheap and are tolerable for some background music. The OpenFit 2+ are a substantial improvement and actually provide decent sound quality. Overall I'd describe the sound signature as being overall pretty well balanced and slightly V shaped with plenty of treble sparkle. The treble resolution isn't amazing but it's hard to fault given the category doesn't have that many contenders. The sub-bass rolls off a little as well which is expected for this form factor, but bass extension is surprisingly good. Soundstage is good, reasonably wide, which is not exactly surprising given V shaped sound signatures does tend to assist to that effect. Compared to my er3xr, the Shokz has a laid back midrange with a hotter treble and is of course less detailed across the board. It's brighter than the HD650's with a rougher less refined sound. I bought them for $339.00 AUD, I'd highly recommend them for anyone who is after some open sporty headphones and is willing to pay for good sound quality.

I tried them on sale for $129 USD a couple weeks ago and I thought they were OK, but the slightest ambient noise completely masks lower frequencies even with bass boost enabled. Not really the product’s fault per se, but the design just doesn’t work for exercise in urban environments. Also the soft rubbery part contains BPAs which is really bad, especially given the friction & moisture that they’ll be subjected to.

My ear shape sounds similar to yours. I first tried the soundcore aeroclip and also the huawei freeclip, but clip-style designs always feel a bit uncomfortable after long use. I recently switched to the shokz openfit 2+, and I found the earhook design fits my ears better and stays very stable. You could try it too if you’re interested, it might open up a whole new world haha.

If you are prioritising sound quality you are not going to want to use Shokz or any other bone conduction headphone. I own three pairs - one for swimming, one for calls (Opencomm 2) and one for general use including cycling (Openfit 2+). They are great for these purposes but they are very low quality for sound. You can also hear everything else that is going on around you so quite often whatever you are listening to is drowned out by external noise. For calls the microphone on the Openfit 2+ is very good (much, much better than any version of the AirPods), but the Opencomm 2 is significantly better. However, if sound quality is important to you, you will be very disappointed.

Depends on the model. Some are bone conduction, some are speakers. I have both versions. The swimming models and the Opencomm 2 are bone conduction. The Openfit 2+ are speakers. None of them has good sound quality.

You could give the Shokz Openfit 2+ a try. The call quality is really clear, which was the main reason I bought it, but later I found it’s also great for workouts. It’s comfortable to wear, and the IP55 water resistance is good enough for sweaty sessions.

Is she after in-ears or open-ear ones too? If she’s okay with the earhook style, I’d say check out the Shokz Openfit 2+. The sound is really nice with full bass and clear highs, and they’re super comfy. They don’t slip off either. But if she wears glasses, I’d probably go with the Opendots instead since they feel way better with glasses on.

I just recently upgraded to the Shockz Openfit 2 and I am so impressed! As someone who usually prefers good sound quality in headphones, these have both the incredible Shockz comfort and fit, the sound quality was really solid as well. I tried the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones recently, and the Openfit 2 were significantly better in my opinion.

Shokz OpenFit 2 would be my recommendation. They don’t fit in the ear but sit on the ear. Get pretty loud and very secure when running. They are very comfortable and even no issues laying on them. I would also say look into the opendots but they will be above your $200 after tax, but go for $199 If you have a Best Buy near you, they should have them on display to try as they don’t go in your ear.

Bose Ultra Open are great for minimal footprint. Sound is pretty alright. Abysmal call quality. They do pinch after a while but it doesn’t hurt that much. I’m sure with time they’ll be less noticeable. Shokz open fit 2 are a little more intrusive since they’re over ear hooks instead of clips, but the sound is MILES better. Great sound for open buds, great battery, great call quality. Very comfy. I regularly forget they’re on. My Shokz are my work buds, playing music, taking calls. The Bose stay at home for watching shows and doing class work/exercising.

Are you looking for something over ear specifically? Like a regular set of headphones or are you open to just about anything? I've just been use random earbuds and an old set of gaming headphones, with Bluetooth, but I recently snagged a pair of Shokz Openfit 2 and lemme tell you, they shocked me. They are open earbuds, but they sound very good and are wildly comfortable. Did an elliptical/weight session and they never moved. Plus their design gives you situational awareness, so you don't get hit by a car or eaten by a mountain lion or something. Definitely an option to look into if any of that speaks to you!

I am an Apple guy too. After my AirPod Pros died on me, I got a pair of nothing ear (a). The ANC is very good but the transparency mode not so much. I use them to listen to music or podcasts while mowing the lawn for example, and they’re great for that. Plus half the price of APP. I recently picked up Shokz open, fit 2 that are outside the ear. These are great for running or riding my bike. They don’t move although it takes a little time to get used to have something that’s not in your ear.

I got my Shokz a few months ago when MO running still required my ears to be covered. I tried the ones with the band on at Best Buy and was worried about the band driving me nuts so I went and got my favorite head band to try again and literally hated them. It pushed the band on to my neck and felt like a label in a shirt that wasn’t supposed to be there. Ended up getting the OpenFit2s instead and my husband has the OpenRun Pros. If you have a Best Buy or running store near you: they may also have a display where you can try them for yourself before buying and I highly recommend bringing your favorite winter hat to make sure it works with it too. Lastly: if you have a Runna subscription, it comes with a discount for Shokz so you can recoup some of that Runna cost. Good luck!

Have you looked at clip-on earbuds like the Soundcore AeroClip or C40i? I haven’t listened to the Nothing Open Ear, I’ve read they’re great but only if they sit exactly over your ear canals. They won’t sound good unless they have a good fit and it’s more difficult to get a good fit with them because they’re lacking ways to adjust them. I’ve listened to the Shokz OpenFit 2 and Soundcore Aerofit 2. I preferred the Aerofit 2 because you could adjust their angle, you can’t with the Shokz and the right one always stuck out more causing less bass on that side. I would also look at the Bose QC Open because they have more bass than any other open pair of earbuds I’ve listened to. If they’re out of your budget, I’d look to Soundcore or potentially Nothing if you can try them on first.

I have a variety of Shokz products. I purchased the OpenRun Pro 2's to replace my original OpenRun Pro's. Much better sound quality. A directional speaker was added to pipe some base into your ear to give a more balanced sound. I got the OpenFit 2's as a gift, and they sound good... and more recently I got the OpenDots One and like them a bit more than the OpenFit 2's and wear those daily (great sound and pretty darn comfortable). But when I bicycle, it is the OpenRun Pro 2 exclusively. I feel those allow me to hear my surroundings more. I will add, I do have some hearing damage in my left ear.

I use the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2's when I am cycling. On the iPhone, I prefer the AirPods 4 ANC over the Pro2's. They fit me better and sound just fine. But I am quite fond of the OpenDots One. I recommend open-ear style headphones that are hooked to your ears but don't go in the ear canal. They are not bone conducting headphones so the sound quality is actually pretty good. They are very stable on technical terrain, even aggressive downhill running, and they don't block outside noise, which helps to be more aware of surroundings. One good choice Shokz OpenFit, but there are other choices, for example Bose or Oladance.

My only advice for the shokz that go completely around your head is to get the mini size instead of regular if you are petite or have a small head. My husband has the regulars and I tried them before I was going to purchase. I hated them. They seemed big and clunky on my head. I ended up purchasing the smaller size and they are perfect. I love them.

FYI to anyone looking to get the banded Shokz through Costco, the warehouse only has the regular size, but the mini is available online. I have the regular. I think the mini would have been a better choice for me, but I got used to it quickly enough and really dont think about it any more on runs. The only time it REALLY bugs me is when I'm sitting down and can't lean back because the band is sticking out. But my use for them is almost 100% for running, so whatever. For running i love them. The difference between a microphone that feeds you the outside noises (and the wind noise and everything else) and just plain *hearing* everything i amazing.

I know they're popular, but I have to say I'm kind of surprised that the Shokz love is so strong here. I tried both the Openrun and Openfit models and both felt like they were constantly jostling around or going to fall off, fit was disrupted if I was wearing a headband or hat, and had poor sound quality. I understand wanting to be aware of your surroundings but to be honest, there's also sound that I want to block out sometimes. Also, if it was windy at all the wind interference blowing across the speakers on the open-ear models is terrible and makes it so that you can hardly hear anything. I prefer physical buttons for control functions like pause/skip forward/skip back and found the touch controls annoying. I prefer a wired bluetooth model (two earbuds connected to one another) so that I can adjust if I need to have more awareness of surroundings by taking one ear out and not having a loose item to deal with. I get this is not the norm but I do the vast majority of my running in parks where I don't need to worry about traffic, so don't worry about keeping both in most of the time. I used to really like Jaybird products and went through multiple pairs before they had some kind of technical malfunction, but am using a random cheap brand ($35 or so?) at the moment. Battery life for bluetooth products has improved dramatically and for running gear that takes a beating, I'm happy to use something basic until it wears out.

I got the open fit. I chose based on reviews on YouTube. Music is loud enough on my runs. I wore them for a half marathon and they stayed on fine and I don't feel them at all. The battery lasted through the whole half and had plenty of battery to spare. I can still wear a hat. When I am running outside I can hear when someone is approaching or if a vehicle is near. I love them and think they are stylish and cute. I got the pink ones and they match my ear skin tone. Downside: it's not as immersive as an experience as in bud ear phones. If I go at a busy time at the gym I can barely hear my music over the machines making the treadmill even harder.

Shokz OpenFit. Because they're actually little speakers, so they sound good, they aren't just trying to vibrate your skull. You still get all the frequencies. Very comfortable since they don't wedge in your ear canal, they sit a little bit in front. And they're a good balance between being able to hear my music and being able to hear around me.

Man I have been through so many of them, and maybe it's just that my ear is odd but I've been frustrated with how they either fall out or bother me after 30 minutes or so.... until I found one built very differently. At last, I'm happy with the Shokz Openfit, because they wrap around the back of the ear rather than trying to be seated in your ear canal. So maybe give it a try if you like.

I've owned every iteration of the Open Run (currently have the OpenRun Pro 2 in the regular neck band size). I use them for trail running and have been extremely happy with them. None have failed (even tho I run in the rain in the PNW winter), but as new models become available I upgrade for better sound and give away what I have to a family member. I also own the OpenFit buds and think they have the best sound, but I prefer having the 'hardware' controls on the OpenRun. My one complaint was that the rigid neck band sticks out away from my head and looks stupid. And THEN I discovered that Shokz makes a 'mini' shorter neck band version of the Open Run model. So I have the Open Run 2 Pro Mini in my cart, ready to check out on July 8th when the 25% off sale begins.

I have tried the Shokz Openfit and they drove me insane. I kept feeling them on and thinking they would fall off my ears at any moment, it would distract me from my run. I returned them and I got the Bose ultra open earbuds and I am so happy with them. Sound quality is good and you can also hear your surroundings, as they don’t go into your ear either. The only con I’ve found is that the mic is not as good as it could be for the price.

I am very happy with the Shokz Open Fit. They sound good and let outside noise in. These could be described as traditional ear buds but they have a gap between the speaker and the ear. I was not happy with the Shokz bone conducting headphones. My uncovered ears heard the usual wind noise while riding. To compensate, I had to turn the bone conducting headphones all the way up and that drowned out any important sounds anyway (cars approaching, etc…). So, I went back to Apple AirPods until I got the Shokz Open Fit. Honourable mention: The Meta Ray Ban smart glasses with integrated speakers sound great if you want to get smart sunglasses. My only problem with these is the thick frames mean craning my neck higher in an aero position. They would be excellent if you ride in an upright position.

I have two shokz I use frequently: openrun and openfit The openrun ones I find most useful for cycling. You have less risk of losing one, and they have easy controls. The band around the back does not interfere with my summer headcap, my glasses or the helmet. The only issue I have with the openrun is that in winter I have to squeeze them in with my winter cap and under my helmet. Which can cause a bit of a pressure point. But for my short commute rides I've learned to deal with it. (My big rides in winter I do indoors) The openfit I use for indoor cycling. Mainly because I find switching bluetooth devices a pain :) The openfit are fine, but the controls can be quite clunky with the touch controls.

I have the open runs for that reason... I have sweated to death my old lower tier pair. In the company's defense, they sent me a free replacement pair that were an updated version. I also have a pair of open fits that I got for a present for myself a while back because they fit better under hats. I run in the country where we have no sidewalks but a lot of free range dogs, people on tractors and the occasional lost cyclist from the neighboring county with more money. I'm not from that county but also wear them cycling because drivers seem to hate cyclists even more than they do runners... they fit great with my helmet and sunglasses both.

Because they don’t fall out of your ears and they don’t go in or cover your ears so you can hear your surroundings (for example the car that is texting while driving and about to run you over from behind). Another advantage is you don’t hear your feet pounding the ground like you do with earbuds. They don’t have a high IPX rating but survive rain, humidity and massive amounts of sweat much better than headphones with way higher IPX ratings. They also come with a no questions asked 2 year warranty.

Shokz open ear/over ear. Not a fan of the bone conduction version because I hate having a strap behind my head. Like many others, I used to just wear my AirPods and get in the zone. Unfortunately had a dog sneak up on me once and then was almost hit by a car I didn’t hear coming that blew past a stop sign. Prefer to be alive and in one piece so the “lower quality” sound isn’t an issue. Plus I still think they perform really well.
