My wife swears by the [Breville Smart Oven](https://productbible.com/product/breville-smart-oven-air-fryer-pro). she uses it to make fish a couple times a week (which always comes out perfect) and roasting veggies takes half the time our old oven took.

We freed up some counter space by getting rid of our toaster and using our new air fryer as a toaster oven. We’ve used this thing daily since we got it. Air fried a whole chicken a couple of weeks ago. https://www.target.com/p/breville-smart-oven-air-fryer-pro/-/A-90673373

The oven comes with a bunch of different trays, one of which is a [non-stick tray](https://www.breville.com/us/en/parts-accessories/accessories/bov450pp11.html?sku=BOV450PP11). The basket that you use for air frying is stainless steel.

We have this oven and had used a previous version of it for air frying. Frankly, I wouldn't do it. The Breville is wonderful for baking, but air frying is a mess and the oven is extremely difficult to clean. When it came time to replace it, we decided no air frying in it. We ended up with a second Breville solely for baking, and then bought an easy to clean Ninja basket air fryer. PS We don't use our full size oven/range. In fact, I have a cover over the glass top and use the surface for other things. And we turned the oven off at the circuit breaker. For two people who don't entertain a lot, a toaster/convection oven like Breville is the way to go. Just get a basket air fryer to go with it. You don't have to get a big one. I got the Ninja AF101, a 4 quart and its perfect for two people.

I have a BOV900BSS. It's great for baking. It's big enough that it should be able to bake bread. Great for re-heating, and you can even cook a chicken or even a small turkey in it. I'm not sure about the 860 Breville, if it would be large enough to bake a loaf of bread in it.

Breville convection (air fry) toaster oven. I’m in my 2nd one, only because our last one got taken out by a power surge. Love, love Breville! Everything’s so simple, and when times up, it powers off. Cooks very quickly too.

I have a Breville too, and we use the air fry function all the time! I’m not a typical air fry person. I think they’re ugly and a space Taker. Also from trying 2 out before, they sucked compared to my toaster oven, which does it all. My big oven is convection, but it takes so long to preheat and then it just heats the house So much.

Love my Breville! It holds a ton of food too. Cooks quicker than the ugly space ship style air fryers I tried. Easier to clean and cook. No need to preheat or stop to turn midway through. I sometimes, but if Inuse the basket, it’s not necessary. I love how it does everything g in one appliance .

Breville is my vote as well. It frys items very crispy and doubles as a little oven. In fact, if it fits in that thing, I'm using it. Our GE stovetop oven is beyond useless.

Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer. It does everything- air fry, toast, bake, reheat, keep warm, etc. I use mine in some capacity every single day. Size is pretty good too, can’t remember the last time I had to turn on my large oven. Also, it’s easier to get things in and out of than the air fryers with the “buckets.”

I’ve been gradually switching most of my appliances to Breville because I really like the brand's quality and having matching pieces at home. The Smart Oven Air Fryer, which is 30% larger than the Smart Oven Pro, would be my pick. I found a great resource on another subreddit where you can [compare the specs of different air fryers](https://www.reddit.com/user/No-Competition-5766/comments/1i5jdq2/air_fryer_models_comparison_spreadsheet/). Worth checking it out when comparing options.

I have a slow cooker and end up using my stove for soups and stews. If I’m doing a whole roast I might get the slow cooker out. I make a lot of soup. I put one or two quarts in the fridge for the week and one or two quarts in the freezer when I make it. I have a toaster oven that air fries. I use that thing most nights one way or another. It’s larger so I even bake my bread in it. It’s the Breiville Smart Oven. So if the question still stands air fryer vs slow cooker I would say air fryer. However if you cook beans from dry a lot, like you are vegetarian or make burritos or burrito bowls a lot the slow cooker might be good. You can freeze the beans in pints or quarts too. Honestly I think a good freezer and learning how to use it is the best kitchen appliance.

I bought the Breville Smart Oven ($350 right now on Amazon) and use it more than once per day. I moved into my current apartment 9 months ago and have not used the regular oven one time. If cooking for 2 it is more than roomy enough. It does look a little less than gleaming because of so much use, but it is amazing! Check it out to see all of the features and you will not be sorry for spending extra cash.

Agree. We bought a used Breville off Craigslist and used it for years without any problems. We were randomly bought a Cuisinart for Christmas ~ 4 years ago, so we gave our Breville to our parents and used the Cuisinart instead. The Cuisinart function dials are now starting to break, while the Breville is still going strong.

I hear ya. I went from a basket air fryer whose convenience in terms of cooking quickly was lost when having to do batch after batch in the basket. We quickly moved on from that one for a Breville Smart Oven and love it. After buying a couple more fry baskets, it's really easy to cook a whole bunch of food in one go. We do cycle the baskets periodically during cooking so that they all spend roughly the same time at the top and closest to the heating element, which is a minor inconvenience . The additional toaster oven features are also pretty handy. We really like the Breville oven.

We needed a new toaster oven, so we decided to try a combo, the Breville Smart Oven. It’s been a really good product for many foods. However, its burner element is in the middle of it, so any air frying with dripping grease produces a mess. So we bought a traditional air fryer too. We actually use both, depending on the food. We are happy having both, because we needed a toaster oven anyway. The only downside is that we spent some extra money to have a very nice toaster oven with air fry capability.

If you’re dropping up to $300 on an air fryer, you’re in prime territory for getting something that’ll genuinely make your life easier (and make you wonder why you didn’t upgrade sooner). The Breville smart oven air fryer is definitely a high end choice. It’s basically an air fryer + toaster oven hybrid, so if you want something that looks sleek and does more than just air frying then go for this! But if you want a straight up air frying powerhouse, the Ninja foodi dualzone is AMAZING. Two independent baskets mean you can cook different foods at different temps at the same time (no more waiting for round two of fries!). The Cosori dual blaze is is also really nice. It has heating elements on both the top and bottom so you don’t even need to flip your food mid cook. I actually came across [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/airfryerhacks/comments/1izsvbo/confession_my_air_fryer_might_be_my_soulmate/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) that breaks down different models and why an air fryer is pretty much a kitchen essential. Might help you narrow things down!

This! I bought the Smart Oven Air Fryer (similar to the Pro, with a couple fewer modes) about a year ago and have used it almost daily. I have not used my “basket” style air fryer or my full sized oven since we bought this. Well, aside from Thanksgiving to cook the turkey. Sure, a basket style might be marginally better at getting things crispy, but the toaster oven form factor is so much simpler to clean and so SO versatile. Hands down my favorite kitchen appliance.

They are a really solid company and its lifespan should add up to longer than a typical fryer, meaning you’d spend the same amount in the long run, actually less. But it also saves us counter space by acting as a toaster, pizza oven, and a dehydrator. I do hear Ninja isn’t bad on that front and are a bit more affordable.

If I primarily needed the non-airfryer features and would sometimes use the air fry, the breville is great. If you primarily want an air fryer then it's performance just isn't the same, not to mention the cleanup. I have a ninja that I use for anything with oil or like reheating pizza that I would never use the breville. Results are much better and the cleanup is too. Love my breville, convinced everyone in my family to have one. And I get why technically the heating is the same. But the convenience is also important to consider

Agreed. I got my Breville when I was in an apartment and their oven sucked. It works GREAT as a small oven replacement. I really wanted the air fryer part to work well, and figured it would when I heard the fan fire up... but it just doesn't get the air flow required to crisp things up like an actual air fryer. It's a function I stopped using and just ended up getting the real thing. Sucks to lose so much counter top space to both, but they both server their intended functions real well. I still do not regret getting the Breville though even now that I have a decent oven. It is great being able to bake something or cook a pizza in the summer without turning the kitchen into a gas grill. Something that is impossible with the gas oven in my kitchen.

More expensive, for sure, but also so much more versatile. I have baked bread, pizza, potatoes, mac and cheese, biscuits. Toasted 6 slices of bread. 6 bagels (only toasts the top). Roasted a 4lb chicken. Baked bacon (turns out perfectly). The air fryer basket is very large. I air fried 7 chicken tenders all in a single layer. I fit nearly half a bag of frozen french fries in it and had them ready in 10 minutes or so. Styling wise, it is far better looking than the Cuisinart or Oster.

It might be the same thing that happened to mine (which was the older Smart Oven Pro, not the Air Fryer Pro). The control panel buttons started getting unreliable — e.g., you would push the fan button and it would activate the frozen button instead. Never actually stopped working, just sometimes required an extra button press or two. I've heard it's because the control panel circuit board in that model flexes too much. We just retired our Pro after ~8 years of *very* heavy use; it still works mostly fine, but in addition to the button issue the convection fan was getting really noisy. Did not hesitate to buy another Breville, the previous one has been amazing. Our weird size wall oven died a year ago and we have just not gotten around to replacing it, since we do everything in the Breville.

There's a certain amount of overlap between a countertop convection oven (which is what they really are) and basket style air fryers. The toaster oven style is fine for stuff like roasting vegetables but you're never going to get the true "air fry" with one of those. We have one of those Breville convection deals but eventually broke down and got a basket style air fryer too and do not for a moment regret it.

I have both a small standalone air fryer and a Breville convection oven/air fryer combo. I think the standalone one makes things a lil more crispy so my husband and I use it the most for heating/reheating small things like Costco chicken nuggets, French fries, quesadillas, etc. Larger foods like reheating pizza go into the Breville. We use the Breville as a normal toaster oven and then occasionally its air fryer function. Im not really a leftovers person unless I can get it to taste like it did in the restaurant. Using the air fryer helps a lot with that!

I think this is an older model so they’re probably clearing it out. I have this exact one that I paid full price for and I’ve gotten my money’s worth! We use it daily. The air fryer function is great and it is big enough to fit a pizza, 9x13 baking dish, etc. I hardly ever turn on my oven! This is an amazing price for this.

I also hated the nonstick coating of my previous air fryer :( I ended up just getting the breville smart oven air fryer pro and use it as my oven, toaster, and air fryer. I’ll admit though that it doesn’t air fry to a crisp as well as my previous basket style air fryer, but I’m ok with it to convert to stainless steel.

I've bought several air fryers in the last 10 years from sub-$100 basket type to the $600 Breville Air Fryer Pro. The best one I've used so far is the Typhur Dome. I'm not a big fan of the Breville Air Fryer Pro. I don't think it's worth the price. It's a good replacement for a full size oven and toaster but it's not a great air fryer. The fan is loud in air fry mode and because of the design and the large capacity, it doesn't move air around as well as basket style air fryers. If you plan to use it often, there are issues with build quality. The convection fan, control panel and door spring tend to fail prematurely.

mine did that too, bought it around the same time. Basically it thought the door wasn't closed so wouldn't start the timer and then shut itself off a little bit after it was done preheating because it thought the door was open. Took it apart and fixed the lever inside and still going strong till this day.

Yeah if the issue is the timer won't start after preheating then it's a loose lever in the hinge that tells the oven the door is closed. Stuff like toasting still works since it doesn't stop cooking when the door is open, but bake and some other functions won't work properly.

Oh I have actually cooked a turkey in this thing, the box even showed it with a turkey inside originally, not sure if the new one does too, was one of their key advertising points that it could cook a turkey so I had to give it a try to test it. came out great, but just needs to be a smaller turkey, around 14lbs or less I have found will fit in it.

Yes I have! In fact, I blew out an entire outlet. I also live in a 50s house. That happened after several breaker incidents when I was when I was running the Breville and my Vitamix on the same outlet at the same time. Ever since the blowout, I only use a particular outlet for the Breville and nothing else, and I haven’t had any issues at all.

Spoiler alert: I love this thing. In honor of the Black Friday sale: $299.95 instead of $399.95, I thought I’d convince some people not to sleep on this deal if you’re in the market! I haven’t had mine for quite a year yet, but in that span of time, I’ve only used my regular oven maybe 5 times, and I cook almost every day. It is to the point where people come over to my house to cook and they go to preheat the oven and I think, “what are you doing?” because they don’t even know what they’re missing! The Breville does everything your oven does, but it heats three times as fast, doesn’t heat up the room, and can probably maintain a lower temperature (which is important for the “slow cook” and “keep warm” functions. It can fit surprisingly large dishes. A 9 x 13 casserole dish will fit. Multiple quarter sheet pans will fit. A 5.5 qt round Le Creuset Dutch oven fits, as well as their 6.75 qt wide round Dutch oven. I originally purchased it looking for a top-of-the-line air fryer, but I’ve used it mostly for all the other functions. Not that it doesn’t air fry exceptionally well, it does, it’s just that it does SO much more. I have used it to “keep warm” my tea pot to come back for multiple cups. It bakes everything except a Thanksgiving Turkey. I love the air-fry function for chicken breast. They actually turn out juicy and not dry, which is usually how they come out when I pan fry them. I use the slow cook function combined with one of my Dutch ovens to make my pot roasts and slow-cooker recipes. They come out great. Honestly, I haven’t even used all the functions yet, but I’m telling you this is a worthy investment. I read a post the other day about someone who used it as a dehydrator for their excess garden produce, and they love it for that even. Negatives: #1 I’d say is it does get dirty quickly and it is a pain in the ass to clean, but it damn sure ain’t as much of a pain in the ass to clean as the big oven! It is more noticeably dirty though because it lives on the counter top. #2 I know it’s a toaster oven… but don’t use this for toast. I do, but that’s only because I don’t eat toast very often so I don’t have a regular toaster. The bitch takes like 7 minutes to toast my Ezekiel whole wheat bread. It’s ridiculous. I’d recommend spending the extra $50 getting the 3 extra air fry baskets, even if you’re only cooking for two. Sometimes you want to air fry multiple ingredients and it’s nice to be able to separate them, especially since you really don’t want anything to touch when you’re air frying. Overall, I’d say, if you’re looking for an airfryer, or a counter top oven— get this one!! If you want a toaster, get a toaster. But I’m telling you… you want this. Everyone would benefit from this even if only for the fact that it doesn’t take forever to preheat. I love it and you will too!

I largely disliked it, outside of the capacity. Before you read below, I'd say my wife and I used this unit moderately (i.e. regular cleaning, used 2 to 3 times a week). First of all, the screen makes a buzzing sound that is super annoying. That's a minor annoyance, but one that infuriated me more and more the longer I owned the thing and saw the other short-comings. Secondly, it doesn't air-fry all that well. It isn't bad, but if all you need is a dedicated air-fryer, well, this thing is assuredly worse than a basket air-fryer. Thirdly, this thing makes a f***ing mess. It's hard to clean, the crumb/ drip tray is a really bad design (the seams can leak food oil directly beneath the machine). I can appreciate the idea of having an outside accessible crumb pan, but in practice it is just not worth it. Fourth, the finish on the thing started peeling within one year (black coated model) and the function stickers were rubbing off within 6 months. At this price-point the function indicators 'ought to have been engraved. Fifth, it takes far longer to heat up than conventional air-fryers. Sixth, the g**d*mned light on it turns off after like 5 seconds. No adjusting it, no keeping it on, just an annoying button you have to keep pressing if you're keeping an eye on what you're cooking. After you cook with this and you get annoyed at all of the above, the softly buzzing screen incessantly reminds you that you definitely overpaid for this unit. If I had to summarize this thing: it is far far far overpriced for a machine that really doesn't do anything special that other oven-style air-fryers don't, and MOST CERTAINLY NOT justifiable at 3x the cost given the shortcomings. I replaced it with one of the flip up Ninja thingies a while ago and never looked back. No, I can't roast a whole chicken in it, but I can do everything else (pizza, toast, air fry, etc).

Is there a reason you’re looking for a basket style? We consolidated a lot of our kitchen appliances and in that process, we got rid of our super old/tiny toaster oven and got a Breville toaster oven that also functions as an air fryer. It is bigger than a basket style, but we saved counter space by not needing to buy a basket style and getting rid of the toaster oven. It’s all metal and it is quite roomy. We use it more often than our regular oven.

Since you mentioned how hot it gets on the outside, I thought I would share my experience. We've used a breville toaster oven forever, and since it even fits a pie, we almost never use the actual oven anymore. A friend let us borrow a spare instant vortex air fryer and we loved it, so we thought we would try an air fryer toaster oven so we could still just have one appliance. It did not do nearly as good a job at "air frying", but the big issue was that it absolutely radiated heat because there seems to be no insulation in there at all, to where it actually heated up the kitchen more than the full size oven does. We returned it, kept our toaster oven, and just added an air fryer to our repertoire. 🤷‍♂️
