A229 Plus/Pro family of cameras are great. We have had great success with their lineup. 3ch camera systems definitely have their place. the A329 is for a niche group of clientele. There will always be individuals who seek the latest and greatest. No 3 channel support, but the ride share market often gravitate to budget options. SSD is pretty cool if you really want to save lots of video footage. For the average commuter, a 128GB-256GB is plenty of video recording. We're in the process of planning the testing road map. I am looking forward to seeing what this new device has to offer as well.

The A129 Pro is considered a legacy camera in 2024. Sure, it doesn't have the latest Starvis sensors, but if you are happy with the A129Pro then stick with what you like. Hard to say if the A329 is worth the upgrade as testing has just begun. Upgrading will ultimately be your choice if it will suit your needs. For the A229Pro, we have well over 150 units out in the field and have not had reports of any poor video quality on the front camera. When it comes to any mass produced electronics there's always a chance that something goes wrong. Wouldn't hurt to reach out to viofo tech support and have them review some footage.

Both the A229plus/ Pro and A329 use the HK4 usb C hardwire kit. A229Plus/Pro rear camera cable is USB-C to C. A329 IS COAXIAL. Upgrading from A129 pro to either of the above would require rewiring entirely. This unit uses the HK3 and Mini usb rear camera connection. The 229 family of cameras is a solid performer. The a329 dos have the upper edge. Should it fall within your budget, the a329 is worth the extra buck. Unfortunately, there is no saving pennies here. Thr a129 rear cam won't work with the a229 or a329.

The A329 is a 2channel camera only. For the A229 Pro the bit rate is not affected in front/rear configurations. With the addition of the Interior IR, the bitrate does drop for the front camera (marginally) Robert from RetroCarGuy530 has in depth bitrate testing on DCT (dashcamtalk),and has a wealth of knowledge far surpassing our more simplistic testing.

Besides the misleading 4k that you pointed out already, as a run of the mill dash camera, it's decent value. Don't rely on parking mode though, as it takes forever to turn on when set for impact detection only. Installability: With proper surface prep (alcohol wipes) the suction cup should hold just find even in the heat. We haven't had any complaints of them falling when clients supply the camera. Hardwire kit, buy the Viofo HK4. It'll work with the redtiger AND give you better battery protection options(11.8, 12, 12.2, 12.4v). Opposed to the fixed 11.8v You can get a tried and true A129pro for little more. I'd personally recommend something more current, such as the 229 plus https://youtu.be/5EcITSNBQ6A?si=LXSIRRU23bRqHZBg

No true 4K 60FPS for 2024. For 2K 60 FPS, you have two options. Thinkware U3000 or Viofo A229 Plus. The latter does perform better in low light conditions.

When upgrading from the A229Duo to A329, you can re-use the HK4 hardwire kit. While the A229 DUO also utilizes the coax rear video cable, we will verify backward compatibility this week. Dimensionally they are the same. If it is backwards compatible which we hope it is, this allows those with older setups to easily upgrade. The GPS mount will need to be replaced, but that's easy to remove with some braided fishing line and a razor blade.

There are others, but my perffered brand is the wedge shaped Vofo's, such as the A119 V3, A119 Mini 2, A229 Plus, A229 Pro, etc. If used with their GPS mounts, the power cable is plugged into it, allowing easy removal without dealing with any cables whatsoever. These mounts can be purchased separately, allowing a single camera to become a multi-vehicle use camera. Add in an additional power source for the other dash cam(s), and you are set.

That's a bummer sorry to hear that. Yeah I am a techno junkie of sorts which also includes dash cams lol. I've been using dash cams in one for another since the late 2010's so we own many. At present we two 2-channel setups (front & rear) in both our car and truck. I've used many brands of dash cams with my fav being Viofos's, but 70mai fits in there too due to their value for the monies. I purchased my 70mai A810 pre-launch with it working just fine in my case but removed it as we decided to change our setups as shown below. The SD card I've mainly used with the 70mai's has been the SanDisk High Endurance ones ranging from 64GB to 128GB. Truck... \- Viofo A119 Mini 2 front \- 70mai M500 as a rear \- 70mai S500 2-ch rear view mirror dash cam Car... \- Viofo A229 Plus 3-ch \- Wolfbox G900 2-ch rear view mirror dash cam

Well that depends. In one vehicle I have the Viofo A229 Plus triple channel covering most basis in terms of viewing angles. Also running the Wolfbox G900 Pro 2 channel rear view mirror dash cam which has the back-up camera feature, but for my needs I could easily live w/o the latter.

The A810 alright but, in 2 channel mode it only records at 25 fps which can make the video look choppy in certain scenarios like when the vehicle is going around a corner. And it only has 2.4GHz WiFi which makes downloading footage on the fly painfully slow. So in my opinion, yes, it is worth the extra $80 to spring for the VIOFO A229 Plus. It records at 30 fps in multichannel mode along with having 2.4GHz, and 5GHz WiFi.

Although I am all for the Sony Starvis 2 sensors (in this case the 8MP IMX678 front), not sure the the extra $173 CAD is warranted here. Yes the front cameras daytime video is slightly improved over its predecessor, higher bitrate from 25 Mbps to 60Mbps, at night front video has much less lens glare from street lights. But there's still no HDR, same rear camera/video quality, no CPL filter option, and a considerably higher price. Unless cloud storage is a "must have" I'd be looking elsewhere like the Viofo A229 Pro 2 channel... I purchased the Viofo A229 Plus 3 channel for $322.55 CAD all-in being quite happy with my purchase. For some reason unavailable for purchase on Amazon right now. But anyways, the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 image sensors (2K) front and rear are more than adequate for our needs... Interior camera uses the Sony STARVIS IMX307 image sensor recording at 1080p.

Although I personally have no need for such a dash cam (recently purchased the Viofo A229 Plus 3-CH), it's impressive to see Viofo keeping on the bleeding edge of dash cam technology. I've been using Viofo dash cams successfully for over 5-years starting with a couple of A119 V3's, then a couple of Mini 2's. So looking forwarded to seeing how the newly released A329 fairs out-of-the-gate.

I do like my Viofo's and 70mai's. Presently using the A119 Mini 2 and A229 Plus 3-ch, also the 70mai S500 2-ch and M500... I was using the 70mai A810 for a while but swapped it out for the A229 Plus. Bottom line though, rear view dash cams are my go-to's now as I love the form factor. Well here's hoping Wolfbox isn't too quick in abandoning the G900 Pro for those who chose to purchase. But then that seems like a trend of sorts these days from what I've been seeing. Launch a newer reiteration of something within months of the previous then pretending the older one no longer exists LOL. So when you say "rattly footage" are you referring to the horizontal shake in the recorded footage? Because if that is the case it'll be a deal-breaker for me since that was one of my main gripes with the X200.

Front: 3ch Voifo A229... Just that does what you want. But... If you want USEABLE footage consider substituting their telephoto lens (used the rear port)... Then buy a separate standalone 1ch A119mini2 for the rear. If you wanna go nutso... Buy a 2ch A229+ for the rear and another telephoto for the rear two. That gives you telephoto and wide angle for front/rear... And inside camera too. (Probably cost $750ish with cards and hardwire kits).

Type s 401, the a229 viofi, and one other that gets recommended a lot on the dash cam sub. Sometimes just randomly my eyesight would bug out or just not work all together such as lane departure and "obstacle detection" which I just decided to go with the Garmin mini because a lot of Subaru owners (at least people who own newer models) recommend the Garmin because of the no screen which I so far have not had issues with. Oh and my car is a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. I was worried the anti collision would randomly activate on me and slam on the brakes

We can argue all day about whether it should include one or whether the cameras we already have should keep video, but it's super easy to just install one yourself as well. Takes all of about 15 minutes and is a one time charge that more than pays for itself if you ever get in an accident. I've got the viofo a229 duo and it's great. Thankfully I haven't had a need for it, but I've caught video of some close misses. The app could use some work though lol

I hardwired the Viofo A229 Plus dual-channel (i.e., front & rear) dashcam in my '23 Crosstrek last month. Very happy with it so far. Note that you will have to purchase a microSD card separately for any dashcam, and not all microSD cards will hold up to the constant demands of recording HD video footage. Do your homework on which microSD cards are good for dashcam use to make sure whatever dashcam you purchase works reliably. Here is some sample footage from the Viofo A229 in my car: [https://youtu.be/yn2FolLn0vY?si=mkJerjgfFz67TBOh](https://youtu.be/yn2FolLn0vY?si=mkJerjgfFz67TBOh) Note that YouTube compresses the video footage and reduces quality somewhat. It looks even better as a MP4 video file on my computer.

I just purchased the Viofo A229 Plus dual channel (front & rear). It does have a screen, but it's not used for anything other than accessing the various menus in the camera. Although it does have a GPS antenna, it's not used for navigation, but rather for including the lat/long in your dash cam footage (if you want it to). Answers to all of your questions are available on YouTube and r/dashcams. Dashcams are a whole universe with its own "enthusiast" base. I got a [VIOFO A229 Plus](https://a.co/d/faRD03e) You can purchase a hardwire kit separately so the parking features can be used, but I opted to just route the usb cables along the headliner. It has a rear cam as well which is nice. The interface is very easy to use and once you have your settings you want configured you forget it’s even there other than the startup jingle. I have mine tucked behind my rear view mirror and don’t realize it’s even there.

Viofo A229 Plus (on sale rn): https://a.co/d/7YEVdYi I spent a good chuck of a day researching all different brands of dash cams and ended up going with this one. One of the best picture quality in dash cams on the market in both day and night. Small enough to where you can tuck it behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side and you’ll forget you even have one (except for the little jingle on startup). I liked how it also came with a camera for the back window. It uses 4 different satellite systems to determine your location and tracks your speed as well. Highly recommend.

Not particularly cheap, but they have a119 dual channel setups that are a fair bit cheaper as well and still have quite a crisp picture. You might even have better luck for pricing looking on Amazon, I just ordered straight from viofo.

So far so good! Edit: make sure you get it professionally installed so you don't see the wires.

It was my first time and it was simple but I was being very careful with the tucking. I initially was worried about battery drain but it has never been an issue so far. I do have parking mode. You do have a few settings options. Did you see the YouTube video I was using for reference. I don't mind sharing pictures if you would like. I found a grounding area underneath the steering wheel and using a nut to secure it.

I just finished hardwire installation on the dashcam. I made somethings harder for myself. I should have positioned and stuck the cameras first . I bought the hardwire kit. My fuse box is located under the steering wheel and I managed to tuck the wires in from behind the rear view mirror without going near the airbags. I purchased a Samsung pro endurance SD card. I will be checking video quality tomorrow

I installed a Viofo A229 plus 2CH into my car the other week. Cost about $325 on AliExpress for the front+rear and hardwire kit. Installed it myself. You may get around 4-8 hours in parking mode depending on the state of the car battery and the voltage you set the cutoff to. I needed a longer parking mode duration so I've added a dashcam battery as well. That would blow out your budget completely though.

Got a Viofo A229 on prime day, love it so far. Got a Dongar adapter to get power from the mirror. If you have a rear camera too, I recommend something like this. [Rear plate DIY](https://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/311142-rear-dashcam-mounting-plate.html) I just used some aluminum stock I had. Cool that there is a threaded m6 hole behind the headliner clip. Edit: Maybe people’s experiences differ, but I did read between all the rewriting, high temperatures and vibrations, a higher end xD card is good, so we did that

I have the Viofo A229 front and rear dash cam on my 2014 Odyssey, and the video quality seems really good. The main benefit is that if you’re in a crash, you have evidence—but that could backfire if the accident is your fault. I’m a noob when it comes to installing this stuff, and I’d say it was of medium difficulty. The hardest parts were removing the panels to ensure the wires don’t interfere with the airbags, finding the correct fuse that allows the camera to turn on in accessory mode, and routing the camera wire from the rear hatch into the main cabin. There are plenty of videos online about this. I also found CR-V and Pilot installation videos helpful since their setups are pretty similar.

I've been happy with the Viofo products that we are using. We've had an the A129 Duo in my teenage daughter's '19 for several years now, and currently have two A229 Plus units: one in my wife's '22 WRX and one in my '24 Ascent. The '19 uses the v3 Eyesight (w/SRH), while the '22 WRX uses the v4 (no center mono cam) and the '24 Ascent uses the v4 w/center camera. All three are placed just below the passenger side Eyesight camera, and in so far as we have experienced, none have caused any issues with Eyesight, although, of-course, being by-Hoyle in the "forbidden zone," there's simply no way for us (or anyone, for that matter), to say that it absolutely does not cause any interference, as we simply don't know what Eyesight "sees." I've really enjoyed **Vortex Radar**'s stuff on YouTube, and he put out a comprehensive review in 2024 - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrvTxCEBbek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrvTxCEBbek) \- It's a bit dated now, and I don't know when he'll do another update. His more recent video examining dash cam failure scenarios is very interesting, too - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Tvw6H8BlI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Tvw6H8BlI) . Based on his videos, I'm going to use some tape to reinforce the QD mount for my A229s, so that it is less likely to be jostled off the mount (and lose power) during impacts. Towards that, the Vantrue N4 certainly served this fellow Ascent owner very, very well - [https://www.ascentforums.com/threads/who-has-two-thumbs-rolled-their-subaru-and-walked-away-without-a-scratch.22072/?post\_id=246650](https://www.ascentforums.com/threads/who-has-two-thumbs-rolled-their-subaru-and-walked-away-without-a-scratch.22072/?post_id=246650) The Viofos were easy to install - this AscentForums thread has some references which may also be helpful for you, at the rear gate: [https://www.ascentforums.com/threads/dashcam-install-with-adapter.20236/?post\_id=249882#post-249882](https://www.ascentforums.com/threads/dashcam-install-with-adapter.20236/?post_id=249882#post-249882) \- and you can see in this specific post that my then 16-year-old daughter was able to do it herself. They also provide plenty of cable length for the rear run even for the Ascent.

Viofo A229 Plus. Don’t bother with older generations of dashcams that have outdated Sony Starvis 1.0 light sensors. They aren’t nearly as good as the 2.0 chips that came out recently. Also don’t bother with anything less than 2K video quality, 4K is preferred. Get the largest SD card your hardware can support (for loop recording). And keep in mind security camera quality in general is waaay behind its consumer photography and videography counterparts. If you want to be able to capture license plates in other situations besides a dead stop in broad daylight, these 2 things will matter. And dashcams are cheap nowadays anyway so no need to skimp on quality. Edit: see also these links (which talk about Starvis 1.0 and 2.0) https://youtu.be/4AnyhHl3_tE https://www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/ultimate-guide-and-history-of-sony-starvis-2 Edit2: get the hardwire kit from Viofo too, it has everything you need all in 1 package. I wired mine into the fuse box in the engine compartment via an unused rubber grommet in the passenger floorboard.

I went with the VIOFO a229 plus for mine, which comes with parking mode, and dual channel. Videos are stored locally on the camera, but you can use an app to access them. It also seems to have a good operating temperature range. I hardwired mine myself, only took an hour or two, and the camera came with a trim removal tool which made it easy. If you want to try doing it yourself, this is the [video](https://youtube.com/watch?v=UdbjC-Hu47A&si=UgBlNWtJXpBLKfJx) I used.

Really the only trick part was routing the rear cable through the rubber tube that goes from the body to the hatch itself. Easy solution that worked much better than how the guy in the video did it was to fashion a mini fish out of a coat hanger, and pull the cable through. Spraying it with some WD-40 before pulling it really helped out.

VIOFO A229 Plus is the best middle of road option. For $170 you get a 1440p front and rear cam, with an option for a 3rd channel should you want an interior cam. It has STARVIS 2 sensors which is really the only option worth considering for night time video clarity. It writes to a MICRO SD card and the app is fairly straight forward. The hardwire kit is like $15-20 and comes with every type of fuse tap you would need. More expensive cams don't give you that much better quality/readability for the price hike that comes with.

I've been using the Viofo dashcams for over 10 years. They're as reliable as any other brand, affordable, and I have no reason to switch to another company. I put tens of hours into finding the right kind of dashcam. Viofo A119, or the A229. Since the market crash of 2009, auto insurance scams went up 1200 % within 2 years  and with the increased cost of everything now, I can only assume that number has gone up. Even organized crime is involved, staging multi-vehicle crashes. EVERYONE needs a dashcam. If someone calls the police on you and it's their word against yours, you might lose in court. And not just traffic court. You can be charged criminally ( depending on that person's "story" ). If that happens, it will be months of stress, thousands on a lawyer  and you still might lose. No license to get to and from work, thousands in fines, sued civilly, and angry for 10 years with much higher insurance premiums. This is a worst case scenario, but it happens everyday, all over the world. ## Whenever there's an incident, save the recording on your PC incase someone tries to blame you etc. Dashcams re-record once the SD card is full, so buy the largest SD card that the dashcam can handle., and format the SD card in the camera when you first put it in and reformat the SD card every couple of months to stop any bugs from popping up. No dashcam is "very" reliable, which is why I run 2. 2 out the front and 2 out the back. I recommend fishing the cord through the headliner at the top of the windshield, then down the side inside of the rubber seal by the hinge, then under the dash and back towards the engine, all the way left, then have it come forward. That way it's not too susceptible of getting snagged on somebody's bag etc. There are tons of YouTube videos showing this method. This is all I've ever used.

**Make sure** whatever dashcam you buy has a **capacitor and NOT a battery.** In the summer the interior of cars can get well above 120° and **cook the battery**. A capacitor will survive, no problem. The same for the winter, the **batteries fail in the constant, deep cold,** capacitors don't. **Viofo A129 Plus Duo, or A229, or A119 are all very inexpensive but quite reliable { as far as dashcams go }** \- I've done a lot of research into dashcams. **EVERYONE should have them. They can save hundreds of thousands of dollars, years of stress and keep you out of prison.** Insurance fraud has sky rocketed since the 2009 economy crash. Elaborate schemes can cause injury and death, but it can also net the fraudsters a ton of money. I have been using Viofo for about 10 years. I replace the camera's every 3 years or so, just so they can be as stable as possible. I replace the SD cards every 2 cameras { 6 years }. **Make sure you get the biggest SD card the camera can hold { so you can record many hours, in case a complaint is made against you the following day etc. }. AND get a SD card manufacturer that Viofo recommends**, or you can have problems with recordings. { I never have }. Also, if an "incident" happens, even if it's minor, copy the few mins before, in case a police officer shows up a week later { your footage would have overwritten that footage by then } **Make sure you reformat the SD card INSIDE of the camera once in awhile.** Sometimes dashcams jam up and fail to record or shut off during recording and reformatting the SD card can keep this from happening.

229 front and matching rear is what I run and been very happy with it. Super easy to quickly detach and remove from windshield mounting base too. Another slick setup is to get the separate mini front mount and use it as a rear cam. Typically much easier to find 12v power in the rear that connecting rear cam to the front camera. Oh and I'm in Phoenix area too.

Its pretty easy, if you want a good quality rear camera, the Viofo is your only option as they offer 2k vs FHD of their competitors. If you are satisfied with 2k at the front, the Viofo A229Plus, if you want 4k front view A229Pro. Now if you dont care about having the best rear view quality, VanTrue has great offerings. It all comes down to how many channels/cameras you want, which you left out in your post.

On a 2021 Highlander XLE we use a Viofo a229 and use the Dongar wiring harness mentioned by another commenter. It works very well. A model Y was on my radar when they came out but ended up with the Highlander. For me it was the build quality issues from Tesla at the time. Besides more room, any other reasons you have for Highlander than model Y? Sometimes I think I still might want to get an EV at some point in time.

I got the Viofo A229 (front and back) and wired it myself to the fuse box with their hard wire kit. First time I've removed/routed wires through trim and it wasn't that bad. Routing the two wires properly through the A pillar (behind the airbag) did take me an hour or so and a little improvising but the rest was smooth. I ended up bending a wire hanger into a C shape, tying the cable to that, and pulling the wire hanger up and behind the airbag. Would've saved me thirty minutes or so if I had planned on how I would snake the wire through the A pillar before hand. Only visible cables are where the power cables come out of the headliner trim/rear hatch trim into the dashcams. If you only care about a front cam, I know I looked at some that are wired into the rearview mirror power cabling that looked almost 100% stock. Would've gone for that if I didn't want a rear cam. u/thisisinput has an awesome video there showing almost exactly what I did. I probably watched that when I installed mine. I decided to put the camera on the right side of my mirror (which does leave more cabling exposed) because I prefer the dashcam out of sight while driving. But that's just personal preference.

Just to chime in here as someone with experience with VIOFO, I have the A229 Plus and was so daunted by the wires, I originally was thinking about taking it somewhere to have a professional install it. But then it came down to crunch time (aka the day of a long roadtrip), so I bit the bullet and installed it myself. Honestly, the wires were scarier in my mind than they actually were. Tucking them away was not bad at all. It took ~1hr for the whole install and it looks very clean afterward.

Whatever you pick, I’d recommend against a camera that dangles off a mount unless it’s very small. I tried a Thinkware Q200 but I had to take it off immediately bc the Tacoma windshield is so small, it distracted my view no matter where I tried mounting it. I got a Viofo A229 instead and like another commenter, I mounted it in the black dot area of the windshield next to the mirror and I hardly notice it.

I have a VIOFO A229 Plus and got it for $160 during prime day. It's been great. You want to get a model that has capacitors instead of battery so they can survive hot weather. If you plan to do ride sharing, I suggest getting a 3 channel model to record video of the interior. I also recommend you make sure you get the correct rated microSD card. Most camera problems stem because users cheap out on the card. For the wiring, I suggest looking up a YouTube video. Hey! So I have a dual cam setup. I use the Viofo A229 and I had it professionally installed for $300. The guy messed up the wiring because he rushed through it, even though he "ensure he was a professional". I recommend the quality of the dashcam, despite their "chinese" off brand name, they make great stuff (not sponsored lol). Viofo has different cams as well, the one I posted has 1440p front and rear and is very clear. Anyway, take it to a reputable shop and TEST IT before leaving. Like test the parking mode works (when the car is off does the dash cam still turn on?) especially if you have an external battery configured. Also, go 256GB storage card or more. Good luck!

No contact and unfortunately no resolution but I was able to get license plate at night, trailer number, company name, etc. Here's a link . I am not a professional. I used free software to make this video, freeze frame at a clear moment to read numbers etc. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_1yPr83XzYE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1yPr83XzYE)

Viofo a229 plus or pro I went a229 plus (1440p) Dont see the need for 4k in a dashcam, 1440p just as good and only requires about half of storage sapce that 4k requires Camera was $160, installation (hardwired, front and rear) was another $150 I dont see anything special with the one provided by lexus, its most likely a generic made in china camera anyways

Go to the dashcam sub. Better resource than here. Tl;Dr Is that you can use your dashcam video to avoid those "he said she said" bullshit things when an accident happens. Get a 2 channel, minimum (front and rear). There are even 4 channel units out there but they're hella complicated to install. 3 channel isn't super important unless you're doing like, Uber or something. Get a Viofo A229 (plus or pro) dual channel. I forget which one is better.

Haha, same model here. And the same model I recommended on my response. Damn good camera for the price. Could also rig up an old GoPro or two with a little work if you've got them lying around. Oh and as far as "backfire". I mean, data gets corrupted by police departments all the time. Who's to say your dashcam was even working?

I just got my own dash cam (Viofo A229 Plus) and used YQMAJIM DashCam Power Adapter,(10P TypeB) to get power from the autodimming rearview mirror. I tried the univeral adapter at first, but the little thin adapters didn't like to sit in the TypeB connectors and I did NOT want to start cutting wires to splice. The full plug adapter I bought after was pretty easy, just plug in and stuff it all in the plastic covering, I place the Cam on the passanger side so it doesn't bother my sight lines when driving. There is actually a small holes on the top trim where you can route the usb cable up and then down to the camera, i found that the plastic center piece sits to close to the windshield glass and was pinching the usb cable if i tried to go under it, but overall its still very clean. Edit: Note that the plug adapter is set to only turn on the camera when the cars power is started. It is NOT powered when the car is off, if you want that you can try the univeral adapter, but again, your probably going to be splicing wires.

I got a VIOFO A229 Plus (and polarizing lens, and hardwire kit), around BF, with a Sandisk Max Endurance card, and it's doing the job. It, and those like it, take care of front and rear. If the ferrite bead on the power cord would cause problems, apparently you can contact them and get a hardwire kit without one.

I just put the Viofo A229 plus in my 16 1500. Highly rated over in r/dashcams and supported front and rear camera which I wanted. It was easy to install and I had some spare USB connections from my Phoenix automotive screen I used for running power to it. It comes with a cigarette plug if you want to use that or you can buy a special harness to run power 24/7 that will shut off if your battery drops below a certain voltage so it doesn't kill your battery. This is so you can use the parking mode where it will record when your vehicle is parked also.

I have the Viofo A229 Plus. It's a 2 channel camera, front and rear, and have routed the power and rear data behind the passenger A-pillar trim. At the door sill, I routed power towards the passenger foot well where there's an auxiliary power port designed to be used for the ND's emergency air compressor. The data port I routed to the back for the rear camera and hid it into the plastic panels. I have an RF, so I mounted the rear camera on the clear windblocker. Later on, I plan to reroute power towards the driver's side A-pillar instead to connect it to the fuse box. This way I can have the camera use parking mode and be constantly recording.

As u/twisky pointed out.... 🤣 R/dashcam has all the info you're looking for. Personally I've had a Viofo A129 Plus Duo (2 channel w/ front & rear cameras) about 2 years now until the front cam went kaput. It's getting replaced with a Viofo A229 Plus as soon as the Black Friday sales start. Also.... >preferably less than 200$ even less than 100$ would be better. I wouldn't go under $100 for a 2-channel dashcam system. Even with sale pricing you're probably looking at least $200 minimum for a decent package.

I have a Viofo A229 Plus. Love it. It’s pretty much set and forget once you get it set up. I installed myself and just power it through the cigarette lighter. I don’t care about parking mode. Get a big SD card. Pretty much no downside apart from the initial price and the install taking some time. To me it’s a no-brainer if you can afford one. The peace of mind alone makes it worth it, IMO. My wife disagrees, and doesn’t see the value of it and was in fact quite angry when I bought it. To be clear, the cam I have is in my car, which is not our Odyssey. So I can’t help you with installing in the Odyssey. Maybe one of these days my wife will let me get one for her Ody.

I have a Viofo A229 Plus. It's a dual channel which means one front-facing camera up front and a rear-facing camera in the back. It regularly goes on sale on Amazon for $180 and the bundle with the CPL filter (reduces glare and is highly recommended) for $190. Funny enough when they're full price they're $230 and $210 respectively, which makes the bundle *cheaper* (don't believe Amazon's "list price" for items as using Camelcamelcamel you can see things are rarely those prices). I have it hardwired (wired to the interior fuse box rather than 12v adapter) and the cables routed around the headliner, install was pretty easy and cables almost completely hidden (only parts showing are to the immediate right of the rear view mirror housing where two wires go into the dash cam unit). I had never done something like that before and I'd say from start to finish took 60-90 minutes with most of the time spent ensuring I plugged the fuses into the correct places and then dealing with the A-pillar (wanted wires to run behind the airbag and the A-pillar cover has some annoying clips). One thing I'll say if you're going Viofo... [use a recommended SD card](https://support.viofo.com/support/solutions/articles/19000133471-what-memory-card-is-recommended-for-a-viofo-dashcam-). I first went with a Samsung as I use them for my security cams and haven't had issues in the years I've been using them. I had multiple issues with recordings on the Viofo though and switching to the recommended SanDisk completely fixed the problem(s).   Typically the recommendations for a dash cam are Fitcam or Viofo. With the Fitcam I believe it can be easier to have a nice install as it integrates into the rearview mirror housing. But with the Viofo it's supposed to handle heat better (which is important as someone living in Texas) and I've seen issues [with the Fitcam not saving footage](https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/comments/1c7vxny/beware_fitcamx_for_rav4_2022_model_b_didnt_record/). More people [talking about problems here](https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/comments/1cba9u3/fitcamx_dash_cam/). I've seen some blame the firmware and others the internal battery it uses.

Seems a little pricey indeed. I was considering waiting for this, but I wanted a better chance of it surviving the florida heat here, so I just picked up a Viofo a229 plus instead. Not at all OEM looking, but with with the predrilled holes in the headliner, and adapter to piggyback off the mirror power, Its still pretty clean. My friend has the fitcamx for his 2024 and he says it works mostly fine, not as reliable as the other cams he's had in the past, but would probably buy something else next time. I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

Another thread pointed out that they have an external camera that you could mount to the back of your truck, the website says it works for the A229, but it appears the A329 has the same ports, so I would think it works for the A329 as well. I may pick it up and see one of these days, but I like the idea of the rear camera being able to look after my truck bed with the internal mounted rear camera.

I bought a Hyundai Creta SX(O) 2024 Automatic Petrol, which comes with a 360-degree camera but doesn't provide any recording. So, I have narrowed my research to these two Dual DashCams in India, 70mai a510 and Viofi a229 Plus. **Viofi a229 Plus** * Dual Sony Starvis 2 sensor on front and back, and it also comes with a Capacitor (so no heating issues as compared to battery one) * Warranty support till 18 months * By far the best dual DashCam around 30K (with Hardwire and 256 GB Memory Card) * Online Reviews are quite exceptional on Amazon, Flipkart and Youtube **70mai a510** * Sony Starvis 2 sensor only on the front * One con is that it comes with a battery, not a capacitor, so it can get heated normally more than capacitor cameras. I spoke about this to the Nexdigitron service centre, they assured me that we can provide a replacement Warranty for 12 months in case of any ongoing issues with the functionality of this camera * By far the best dual DashCam around 15K (with Hardwire and Memory Card Samsung Ultimate Pro 256 GB) * Online Reviews are good on Amazon, Flipkart and Youtube. I went with 70mai a510 because I don't feel the need to spend an extra 15k just for surveillance cameras with Viofi a229 Plus, spending 15k is good enough. But if you think you live in some area where the crime rates are quite high and you need to track back side number plates with utmost clarity at low visibility, then you can consider Viofi a229 Plus. Also, I don't do such long trips that often, I wanted a camera which I can rely upon. Lastly, technologies are evolving quite rapidly. Today, a Viofi a229 plus seems best at 30k. After some time there will be something else, and it will keep going. So, based on your budget and requirements you can go for either of those cameras. Just think wisely before buying such high-end products. **PS**: I was also considering Wolfbox i07 3 Channel and Redtiger F17 4k 3 Channel cameras but avoided those primarily because these cameras would face difficulties in reading number plates at night time as they come with Basic Starvis Sensor (also seen reviews quoting this in online platforms). While on the same budget 70mai a510 was providing Sony Starvis Sensor 2 in Front, which will be very handy at night time as our headlight will always outshine front vehicle number plate.

Viofo A229. I got a fast 64g mini sd card for it. Front only. I wired a 12vdc-5v usb little box, into existing wires when I pulled the glasses & two lights compartment out. Lots of harnesses there. So the usb box is hidden in roof. Viofo usb cable connects to it. I bought from Amazon the converter box and a bunch of various male Toyota harnesses that end in wires. Took pics of the females that give power. One I got was for powered rear view mirror. Use a tester to find more than one live wire when car is on, and can power the converter and camera. One was just a signal +12v not enough power, another was fine. Camera has a capacitor to power save memory to the card when you turn off the car. This was like a 2 hour job taking my time. 3/10 difficulty.

I have the VIOFO A229 Plus. It records 4k video and has a rear cam. If you hardwire it (easy to just plug two fuses into empty fuse slots in your fuse box) it will record without the needing the car on.

I hear ya. If I leave the cam connecter overnight, I will get the battery management message the next morning. Never had an issue starting it, but the BMW seems very sensitive to parasitic drain. I need to play with the cam settings, but from what I have read, people still get the battery management message with the voltage cutoff set very conservatively.

I've had good luck with the viofo dash cams over the years. Some of the more expensive viofos have the Starvis 2 sensor, which does get a slightly better image (which might help if you are reading a license plate). Buy a really good high-endurance SD card, no matter what you buy And if you are ever in a collision, read the plate out loud so the mic can pick it up. Just in case the camera doesn't quite pick it up.

My buddy helped me installed the viofo a229 plus today. Used the hard wire kit (which you have to fuse yourself). The kit is supposed to allow constant 12 volt power for parking mode. We used the pre wired harness above the rear view mirror, and the camera works well when the car is running, but does nothing when it's supposed to go into parking mode. Not happy about that...

The camera records to a micro sd card that is installed in the main camera module. Footage from all cameras is stored on the card. To access the footage your camera creates a wifi hotspot that your phone connects to in order to facilitate the data transfer. This model uses 5 ghz network which is considerably faster than previous 2.4 ghz models I have used. Normally I used pop the card in my computer and copy all the files for easier processing but if you need a quick copy to share in the moment then wifi transfer allows for this. The wifi connection also allows you to remote view the cameras. I don’t want to type a bunch of unnecessary info so just ask me questions if you’re curious. I’ve had 2 different cams in 2 different cars so I’m pretty well versed in the space

I just hardwired the Viofo a229plus using the OEM plug above the overhead console. I was debating the Viofo or Pormido P50 digital rearview/dash cam. I got Viofo on Black Friday so rolling with that for now.

It is the same plug used for OEM dash cam. You kinda have to crimp some wires on your selected dash cam hardware kit, then insert into a female connector which then plugs into the OEM blue plug. See link above on how to do it I don’t have a digital mirror. I just have the a229 plus duo mounted. The pormido P50 is a combo digital rearview mirror that covers the OEM mirror . You still have access to homelink buttons . The Pormido also comes with 3channel ,(separate front, interior and rear camera).

I have 2024 hybrid as well. I hardwired the car, via the rearview mirror. In terms of options, I used the VIOFO A229 Plus. Do your research on the SD cards, cuz you need a high endurance one. The way it’s hardwired through the rearview mirror shouldn’t eat into the battery. If you want parking mode (essentially recording when the car is off) you may either want to buy a separate battery pack to install, so it doesn’t mess with your car battery. The link below shows you how to install via the front dashcam with the car’s rearview camera https://youtu.be/z3TMdNkN-hk?si=haDqqnBsNJtdIc6U The link below, shows you how to wire the rear dashcam. Just make sure the sticky tape isn’t on the defrosting lines. I made that mistake on my car. https://youtu.be/U-ojSxFm_9A?si=uQkq5RlaLEJANtKY Good luck!

The A229 streams easily to my iPhone, much easier than my older A129. So, older cam got put in car that isn’t used as much, and new A229s live in the household’s daily drivers.

I use and hardwired VIOFO A229 Plus that covers both the front and back of my GLC along with a Thinkware iVolt Mini external battery pack giving me up to 12~ hours of running time while my vehicle is not running. It only takes 30-45 mins of driving to charge the iVolt battery to full plus I’m not directly draining my vehicles battery. The dash cam isn’t as discreet as most but I’ll be grateful that it’s there in the event something does happen.

I too was curious about the Mercedes built in dashcam and after reading the comments, I decided to do some of my own research. TLDR it’s absolutely not worth it imo. It only records the front and does not have parking recording capabilities. An equivalent 3rd party camera would be around $50 on Amazon. If you really want a dashcam for a similar price, I’d get a Viofo A229 Plus. I have the previous version of the Viofo and I really like it. The new one is a big upgrade over mine.

I've been using it with rideshare for a few months now. The quality of the video is top notch with the Starvis 2 sensor even at night. Fast Wi-Fi, good app, decent microphone, voice commands and that great "low profile" wedge shape for which Viofo is known. I'm using a Samsung card just fine. It sees a bunch of use with my work, and I check the card and format on a schedule. If I have any complaints, it is probably about the interior camera. It just feels cheap compared to everything else. The quality, even for 1080p, looks subpar to other interior camera combos I've had, and the exposure is just "weird" in that it doesn't exactly flatter anyone sitting in the car. It also has an IR cut filter (or something similar) so every time a set of bright lights hits it at night, you hear the audible *click* of the IR turning on/off which is annoying. I thought dash cameras were moving away from this. Lastly, while the IR coverage is fine, the scope is narrowed so that anything out of the cone/"periscope" of light coverage isn't lit nearly as well. My previous camera (Coxpal), while it had its own issues, did all these things better with its interior camera. Otherwise, it is a really solid camera. Have it hardwired for parking mode, and it's given me no operational issues whatsoever.

I got the Viofo A229 dual front and rear. Wired to a blackbox my car Powercell8, which is wired to the 20A accessory fuse. The Powercell 8 runs the camera when it's parked, and the car charges the powercell when I'm driving. As long as I drive the car every day for at least 30 minutes, the powercell always keeps a charge. Dropping the headliner and running all the wires wasn't that bad. I have the Viofo A229 Dual dashcam installed with a hardwiring kit in my car and in retrospect I feel I should have gone for something cheaper. So to you I would recommend something like the 70mai A510 dual dashcam. I feel it's better to have a dual dashcam in a country like ours. It helped me just recently in my insurance claims process when a 3 wheeler driving on the opposite side of the road rammed my fender and took off my front bumper as I was making a U-turn. This model sells for 14k on Amazon, has a Sony Starvis 2 sensor and basically all the features my Viofo dashcam has plus a lot more. I would recommend going through some reviews to know if you can turn off the "ADAS" features of this camera as I can see those being quite annoying. And yes I would recommend hardwiring for a nice factory finish. That way the front socket can be free to plug in a high watt mobile charger to get fast charging on your phone. Hardwiring will enable you to use parking recording. To be honest there are no cons to hardwiring except the knowledge and some skill needed to do this installation. I feel there are enough tutorial videos on YouTube to help you do the installation yourself but if you're not comfortable doing it, you could pay a professional installer for it. You can buy the hardwiring kit and a CPL filter (if there is one) for the 70mai A510 and still be nowhere close to the budget you'd need for the Viofo A229 whose sensor is now last gen.

Best bang for buck - Viofo. I've got their A119 mini v2 ($87), A129 Plus Duo ($130 in 2020), and A119 v3 ($80, 2018/19? ish) in use, and will be picking up an A229 Plus Duo whenever they go on sale again (no tax if buying through their site, btw) Garmin, Blackvue, Thinkware also have very good track records, for both reliability and honesty. 70mai is generally well-regarded and trustworthy as well, but they have a penchant for using batteries in their cams, which (in earlier days of cams, at least) were prone to swelling in heat. You'll want a cam with a (super)capacitor instead of a battery to mitigate this The reason I mention honesty and trustworthiness - almost all other brands I've looked at lie in their marketing and say their cameras are capable of a resolution they aren't. E.g. Rove - their original 4k dashcam isn't true 4k, it's upscaled You'll be better served at /r/Dashcam (or /r/dashcams, I can never remember which is which) and dashcamtalk.com. You will also need to factor in the cost of a microSD card (high endurance highly recommended) and, if you don't want cables hanging around leading to your 12v cig lighter, the cost of a hardwire kit. A good 128GB card is ~$12-23, hardwire kit ~$15-25 https://dashcamtalk.com/best-dash-cams-of-2024/
